I haven't really taken her stuff seriously recently. I agree with a lot of her general takes (that China has been pumping out trash), but after some of her more recent reviews, it kinda just seems like she has Chinese drama fatigue.
I didnt see the video, but from the other replies, her criticisms are still valid for the most part (production does feel lower, and the female characters don't hold much agency). But generally, she seems to have nothing BUT criticisms. Like girl, take a break and refresher π
Honestly the pair dynamics have worked really well so far. The first prince and the princess, fan xian and waner, and even the second prince and ye ling er are all really cute and compliment each other well.
The way some of the viewers are hating on this show is much more than the criticism they give to other actually…
Most haters are either people who haven't watched either seasons (if you like season 1, you'll like season 2. They have the exact same vibe), extremist Xiao Zhan fans who were never watching it for the plot, or people who are straight up brainwashed by the low effort trash thats been coming out of China for the past how many years.
Chinese entertainment gets a show like this once every blue moon. You don't have to like it (not everyone enjoys high-stakes slow-build politics), but if you're gonna criticize it, make valid criticisms lmao.
I wish the show had more viewers. Just like season one itβs very underrated but very good.
I don't check any of the chinese ratings and polls, but I'm assuming that season 1 was popular enough in China so that we even got a season 2. Just hope this season is as popular over there as season 1 was, and we might get a season 3...
Help: Is a good show? should I watch the 1 session before watch this?
Season 1 isn't a much watch, however they reference events that happened in season 1 and you see the consequences of season 1 still weighing on both the ML and FL.
I haven't started watching this drama yet but are the actors playing Chinese people or multilingual characters?…
In the Thai version thankfully most people aren't dubbed anymore and keep their original voice. I'm still confused on why they casted someone who can't speak Thai (Lawrence Wong) to play a Thai person though...
And yeah, Nine can speak Mandarin, I think he was in a Chinese boyband the last time I checked, so idk why they don't use that for the scenes where its just the four main characters, which happens to be quite often π
I'm actually enjoying this more than season 1, since the character relationships seem to be a lot stronger, both in the main couple (cute and supportive but not overwhelming), and in the side characters.
Speaking of, there's blatant flirting in all directions here ππ This would have never passed in a Chinese only production

The episodes are set in Thailand. The Thai actors are playing their own nationality, it's just sometimes they get dubbed over by Chinese, sometimes they don't. Both of the central Thai characters know how to speak mandarin, and I think(?) they're dubbing over themselves for some reason.
Why did they dub the Thai instead of just putting subs πππ It makes it so much harder to watch. Like, Chinese people are not... foreign to subtitles... I don't get why they insist on dubbing some parts and some others are not dubbed.

and the second half is absolutely bonkers HA.
Having a deus ex machina like him around all the time would definitely make the stakes just a tad less impactful though. I'm just glad he's back.

Season 2 is better though, cause the main plotline in season 1 was a bit all over the place.
