The ML did what the FL said because he HAD to. The FL is a vengeful character. Laws in ancient China being that if the crime is serious enough, the criminal's entire family gets executed. The ML was forced to go along with the FL's plans in some cases because if he didn't she would go at it alone and commit a crime that would get his whole family executed.

I didn't like it because the FL was not evil enough. There was no chemistry. The show explained the Marriage was one of convenience for both to get what they want. AND THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. I really really hate that they tried to add some half assed romantic crap in at the end. They should have just have the FL kill off everyone. notice this drama is not tagged with romance so I don't know what you were expecting from the start.
