This doesn't mirror real life. This was a classic example of trauma porn Japanase drama. Borrowing the definition: "trauma porn, which defines it as "media that showcases a group’s pain and trauma in excessive amounts for the sake of entertainment. Trauma porn is created not for the sake of the marginalized group, but instead to console or entertain the non-marginalized group."

By his own words "But then the script got revised and that scene was removed, which was such a shame." So the show was transformed to remove convincing proof of romance, hence it's not longer a BL.

I've seen government imposed censored series that are 1000 times more romantic than this was. As someone who's had a friendship I deemed as "soul mates" and it was completely non-romantic, this show reminded me of that. Two broken people that were very similar and were each other's safe space. Soul mates...as friends. Thought I would argue that's not even what they were in the end considering the last couple of episodes.

I can't watch it anymore because of Lu Feng. He is so violent and the SA is not a one time thing. I believe the book this is based on is very old. Old school c-BL has extremely toxic tropes. It's just misery porn and I'm not here for it.

I'm not disappointed that this was not a BL or not even a queer romance, their connection transcended that I suppose. I'm disappointed because it was trauma porn. The acting was excellent, the story was not.
