I don't think they could have without the reveal that the B poisoned the porridge. That was the clincher to resolving the misunderstandings, and even if YXW learned about it at the end, they were already at the point of no return: he was already betrayed and feeling hopeless knowing that she actually doesn't love him, and after the reveal, she was given an epiphany on how to still complete the mission but this time she knew she will be ending her life so no point in leaving regrets.

It's like I don't even want to click on your reviews on this particular episode😭 I just finished and I don't want to relive it again😭

....TTJ saying YXW could ask anything she wants....out of gratitude that she returned to him?

....YXW asking that she be erased from the Ye family all of a sudden....and TTJ is ok with that??? When he knows how important family is to her?? Why is he suddenly ok with everything just because she came back to him?? He doesn't even question why she wants to be cut off from her family??
(Ok. So I know this is an adaptation, and the writers are trying to incorporate details from the novel into the drama, but this part here kind of confuses me and asks a lot of me suspending disbelief. TTJ being ok with everything YXW asks is simply obsession at this point. In the novel, it flowed naturally because TTJ there believed that everybody is motivated by ambition and greed, and thinks YXW is no different. But here...... why is he suddenly ok with everything? Is it gratefulness? Is it guilt? Is it just to please YXW (so like being subservient to her?). I kinda don't get it.)

...the lighthearted bgm at the choosing of date discussions seems out of place. It suddenly turns dark when TTJ chooses the ominous date.
...3 days to prepare for an emperor's wedding seems..........I pity the workers.

...the explanation that the groom should also embroider the veil kinda takes away the thoughtfulness of TTJ. I liked the novel explanation better, that TTJ took up the embroidery because he also wants to put into the veil the hopes he has for them😭 it wasn't by any external force (aka tradition) that made him embroider the veil, it was because of his own pure feelings about the wedding😭

....at this point, I'd understand why YXW is so hateful. That's cold, to say that her only purpose was to kill him. him realizing that everything she ever said and done, no matter how sincere it was at the moment for her, was a lie is such a painful and bitter truth to swallow, especially when he never lied to her. Who wouldn't hate such a person? 😭
.....he only ever wanted to have someone by his side....and the person he thought wanted to be with him, and who he wanted to be with turned out to be a lie...😭 AND HE SAID HE LOVED HER😭😭😭
...when she said she didn't love her, his "hao", was one of resignation and defeat.😭 before the last set of nails, he was still hoping she wouldn't do it, but when she said farewell, he closed his eyes and resigned himself to die.😭

.....but YXW too is pitiful. The one thing she risked her life on, the one she worked towards, she failed in doing. Her hopelessness is reflected in her solitude and bleakness of her prison.

...the Ye family (excluding YBC)'s support for YXW is touching.🥺 General Ye can't condone what she did, but she is his daughter, and he would suffer along with her.🥺
....Nian Baiyu🥺😭 his caring pats at the back when TTJ spits out blood is🥺 but at this point, TTJ doean't care about the pain anymore, and whether the nails can be taken out or not😭 three years to live definitely woyld be painful enough to live through even without the nails given this kind of betrayal.
...the exchange between TTJ and YXW is so intense.. if really, awards committee only decided on one scene to be submitted, this will win all awards. (I skipped writing about this in my fanfic because I can never do justice to the excellence that is LYX and BL's acting)

...YXW finally learns the truth about the poisoned porridge. Really, was that really acting on BL's part when YBC was choking YXW? 😳 No wonder CDL would think she hurt her, that was sooooooo realistic that it looks like she really is being choked. Even when YBC was supposed to be gripping YXW's hair, looking at CDL's hand, it didn't look like a tight grip, but BL's expressions made it look like it hurts so much.

My head is aching already. The pain is too much😭 everything is painful😭

TILL the very last episode, the story line intrigued, enchanted, made me reflective, and tortured me.
THE characters (yes, YBC included) were certainly compelling and worth getting to know more of and dig into (yes, YBC included, but the digging, maybe not). The costumes, the set design, the cinematography, the cgi, the music (oh, the music!) all blended together in beautiful harmony and was unique and relevant enough to appeal to all ages. The drama was a perfect symphony of every department, and the passion and creativity of everyone involved in it shines through every part of it.
END though it did at 40 episodes, I believe each episode was well written and tightly paced (with a few bumps every now and then because perfection can also be a flawed thing, if that makes sense). ----I do wish it could have gone longer though, because 40, many as it is, was simply not enough.
OF all the dramas I've watched, none got me hooked and made me fall in love at the very first episode. That first episode, especially the first half, was unforgettable. There was a lot to unpack from that first half that could fill pages and pages of discussions, and it would still be not enough. The second half was love at first sight with the main protagonist, Tantai Jin, in his mortal form.
THE thoughts and feelings that this drama evoked in me was unlike any other drama, C/K/L or western. There were a lot I can express, but there was so much more I can't find words for.
MOON and sun rise and set on me frequently coming back to this page just to interact with this community that should be the standard for healthy fandoms and discussion walls. I've never been happier with social media than I am here, and I thank my lucky stars that I took the chance to be part of it and meet all of you on this page. =)

The last one: YXW was dead set already to nail TTJ's heart that she didn't want to hear any explanation from him anymore. Because of grief, I suppose.

....why does YXW think that she can safely go back to TTJ after a while, and that he can "cool off" from a betrayal like hers?🤯 Even if TTJ was just drugged to sleep and not poisoned, does she realize that the fact that she let XL free is treason and punishable by death? Why is this going to be excused by naivety because she came from an immortal sect? (I love this drama, but I am not blind to its faults. This whole thing could have been better.)

....the B is of course surprised TTJ is still alive. Which makes me wonder, after everything she did to get power from TTJ, what did she expect to have with his death?? Just satisfaction that YXW loses everything? That is just spiteful, and contrary to what she had been saying about having power. (Then again, why am I invested in her?? =sigh= in the spirit of fairness, I suppose.)
...actually, at first watch, when TTJ said "It's me", I remember thinking, is he taking the blame for killing grandma? That's why everyone was surprised? It was only around the second rewatch that I realized, ah, he's saying the porridge was for him. Realizing that didn't help stop or even ease the wave of pain from the scene.
...XL and PYZ reunite..........but not for long.😭 Ever the noble one, XL doesn't blame YXW. (But he should. He wouldn't have died that quick if she had just let him alone.)
...TTJ explaining to NBY why he let her stab XL. Cursed under that existence, YXW should have just disappeared and not go back to TTJ, mission be damned. (But of course she doesn't.)
