performances here... it's the way they delivered pain and sadness that makes this episode such a memorable one.

This actually. One of the reasons why I like asian series (c/j/k) better than western is because they have a definite end to the stories they tell. Much as one would like a good thing to go on and on and on, sometimes, when a good thing ends, it actually makes it a lot sweeter and more memorable than when it would eventually be forced to live up to the goodness of the first moments just for it to continue (sorry if I don't make much sense, I can't translate well the thoughts I have in my head.) And besides, an end makes it possible for more stories to be told which could be better than the one told before. So though it hurts that this drama ended, with just hopes of special episodes to look forward to, I'm glad it ended the way it ended, because it was a joyful ride.
And yes, I agree, why tie down excellent actors to a single role, even if that defined them? Let them play around with other roles that can also showcase their limitless talents, and let them collaborate on more dramas please.

Hypothetically speaking, if there would be a korean remake, I'd expect a little (a LOT of) disappointment about the amount of story that might be lost if they'd make it with the usual 16-20 eps. This 40 episode epic still left a LOT to wish for, how much more for 20 eps?

If korean... I'd go for Lee Joon Gi, since he has the frail physique and of course the acting skills comparable to LYX (personal opinion), but scarlet heart is enough trauma from him😅 if cold, calculating TTJ, then maybe Lee Soo Hyuk, coz those eyes😅 and he does angry hurt very well in Tomorrow (tho I just watched clips, it was hard to get into the series itself, given the topic😥)
For LSS.... BL is unique in mixing drama and lighthearted fun, so maybe Jung So Min from Alchemy of Souls?

But then again, everything depends on the chemistry of the leads, if they could ever come close to what LYX and BL have😁

Episode 9. Because of the I save you, you save me thing that TTJ and LSS got going on. I love watching TTJ's expressions from cold, aloof, bitter to being selfless because of YXW. I can't express it fully (but I said a lot during the rewatch🤣), but I found that whole episode beautiful.

Episode 39. Because of TTJ's heartfelt wishes about their love lasting for posterity, and because of the beautiful dream he was leaving her.

Episode 1. Because it was the beginning. And it was a BEGINNING.

Honorable mentions: the nightmare episodes where we saw TTJ's backstory and what-if universe, the tower scene (of COURSE😭), ep.32 for the fight scene b/w CJM and the two demon sisters, ep.35 for the trial of CJM and the kiss under the tree, the whole of MY and SJ's arc, and of course ep.40 because it was THE END.

Ahh the possibilities.... yeah, i think SJ would know because someone would definitely break the news to her, whether it be her brother or maybe that B TH, always trying to blame SJ for every misfortune...
I get why MY said all those things, to spare her the pain when he dies, so she can hate him in peace or something like that, but... do... they... have... to... be... that... hurtful?😭

The story applies to TTJ too as DG later... Ah, so that's what the story is supposed to mean!🤔 But the only takeaway SJ had (which I did too, when watching the scene) is that you have to sacrifice everything to prove your sincerity.😥

This episode is just pain in the first half (with something bittersweet in between) but the second half was important in terms of storytelling, since it sets up what the All-in-Distress Way is, and the cost of destroying it, which will come into play later. Why do c-drama episodes end like that tho???😅 it's not exactly a cliff hanger, but it's like stopping in the middle of a conversation
