I think I'm one of those who doesn't think he's weak. I believe he can be cunning if he wants to, it's just that his soft-hearted nature is more prevalent. He's already pretty smart, not to add also knows martial arts, albeit he needs to polish it more.

No matter how good-looking Gong Yuanzhi is, I was irritated when he was mockingly smiling at Zi Yu after they were both slapped by his older brother 😅 I'm wondering if this is how it's gonna be for the entire drama, the Gong bros being at each other's throats. Seems there's a bigger villain out there, aside from Wufeng. Hope later on, these Gong bros can become allies instead.
Zi Yu is a clever ML, he's just more soft-hearted than the other two bros, which puts him in a much disadvantaged position. Also his biggest flaw.
I think the two couples are very well-matched. We have YSW and GZY as the soft-hearted couple, while GSJ and SGQ as the cunning ones.
