In some ways I find her arc the most interesting because her growth is the most palpable. Everyone else has been…
She is indeed very admirable. She's clearly smitten with Qi Yan but she doesn't let that cloud her judgment and she understands the gravity of each situation.

Yes, i especially like her retaliate to Ziyuan, the reason why you only want to kill Qi Yan, because he is currently…
Yes! She made a really good point and Ziyuan really failed in defending herself. She knows what Yu'er said is true.

Finished ep 23 and I am just liking Cheng Ruoyu more and more. She has definitely grown since the beginning. Maybe she won't be Yan Zhi but that's fine , she has her own strengths.

Watched 3 episodes and hoping the FL will grow on me because she seemed like a 6-year-old complaining about going to the dentist rather someone who's already 26. Looking for character development. Also, it's not the FL's fault but they have way too many inner dialogues for her character.

ZYX did well to portray lively, bubbly character yet loyal, strong swordswoman here. She may seems dimwit at some…
I agree. As much as I like conspiracy and politics, it does get tiring after a while. Cheng Ruoyu definitely helps to lighten up the mood. I'm at ep 9 and she has improved from previous episodes. She's working well with Qi Yan!

Isn't the original title of this drama is Dream of Chang’an? Why the sudden change of title to generic type…
The story is no longer set in the Tang Dynasty or Chang'an so they probably changed i because of that. They could've changed it to Dream of Heng'an lol

I have no idea why they changed the tittle. The Dream of Chang'an was definitely more captivating for me than…
I agree with you, but the story is no longer set in the Tang Dynasty or Chang'an so they probably changed i because of that.

Sorry for any mistakes. English is not my native language.I’m not going to talk about Female lead's acting I…
Very well-put. I don't think she's stupid. She's a breath of fresh air to Qi Yan because she's so direct and honest. She wears her heart on her sleeve unlike him and all the people around him. Like you said, she's surrounded by great strategists around her so she sticks out.

Changing the dynasty to a fictional one means they don't have to strictly follow history.
Yes, there's certainly that freedom. Emperor Wuzong died at 31 so I wasn't hoping for a happy ending but now that we're not in the Tang Dynasty anymore...

If you don't need subs, you can find the series on Duboku or Bigdrama.

Only 3 episodes in but I'm really liking it so far. I can see why they had to change the dynasty from Tang to a fictional one, Xing. It would make passing censorship a lot easier. Doesn't subtract from the story. Acting is great so far, the FL does have growing up to do but I like her so far.

That’s how it is for most viewers! Let’s just say I’m not that fun to watch movies with, the only grace…
Hahaha, I can totally understand. My sister studied film and works for a film festival. I'm always asking for her opinion on movies but I'm also scared to find out what she might say XD
KatiaSchwarz Aug 6, 2021
It's always interesting to see the perspective of someone who's a professional and studied film. All these details flew right past me as I watched. At the end of the day, it was the emotions and dialogues that stuck with me the most in these scenes.

I understand where you're coming from and why this upsets you, but at the same time I don't really think it's…
I agree. It's like in Chinese harem dramas, the emperor is always emphasized to have 3000 ladies in waiting. It's exaggeration. Even in dramas with war scenes, some generals will say they have 50,000 men and we probably only see a hundred or less than that on screen. They might pad the rest with CGI but that's still a budget that not every drama production has.

I agree with you that Bai Jue is definitely more gentle with Shanggu than anyone else. I personally feel he started…
Yes! At first he felt awkward around her since he hasn't been this close to anyone, ever. But as soon as he gets over that awkward phase and realizes that he doesn't dislike being so close, he looks less cold around her. I really like that he doesn't question his feelings and just accepts them as they are.
On Ancient Love Poetry Aug 5, 2021
On episode 9 of my rewatch. I missed a lot of Bai Jue's micro expressions during my initial watch so it's nice to see them now. I can clearly see how he falls in love with Shang Gu over time, how his expressions soften when he's around her.

It's absolutely HILARIOUS that you keep coming back to a drama that you think failed so poorly. Your obsession…
Yes. Usually people will comment about how boring the beginning is but only a select few will come here and start bringing up Douban ratings...
