Agree! I haven't watched her drama with Alan Yu, but I have watched the others you listed and they are different. In this current drama, Chong Xuezhi is supposed to be a newbie in the jianghu world and I don't know why people are expecting her to be strong already. What character development would there be if she starts off being strong and successful? Plus, she is definitely not stupid and is skeptical of strangers, unlike other FLs out there.

I was like you, couldn't get pass episode 2 at first. But after ep 2, things do get better. In my opinion, I wouldn't call it seduction at all. She is clearly interested in the man and was trying to get him to notice her, not knowing that he already keeps his eyes on her. I actually like this FL for being assertive and knowing what she wants, not like many other FLs out there who need to figure out if they like the ML.
The beginning is already way different from the book so I won't hold any expectations but please keep Zhou Fang's wit and sharp tongue. She could be real nasty to people who deserve it in the book. I can see hints of this in the first 2 episodes and Dilraba is doing a good job already.

They didn't share a deep love story. In ep 14, at the mountaintop, he explained his side of the story. He saw her in a painting (ep 1). At first, he watched her with fascination and curiosity, which I guess is what immortals do with humans, and he fell for her gradually through several lifetimes. He watched her suffer in every life time and wondered when she'd learn to give up after her obstacles, but she never does. Even in her current lifetime, she still hasn't learned.
I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to Zhao Lusi's character Qin Chuan. I don't think she's immature. I thought it was clear that she was trying to keep a low profile and blend in with the rest of the people to avoid suspicion.

I'm on the fence with her character. She treats the SML as a friend and said this multiple times to multiple people, so if we go by her logic, she's just hanging out with her friend. Nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, I feel bad for her boyfriend.
The drama is just following the book. Even a lot of the dialogue from the book is included almost verbatim in the drama.
