Of course, you can watch this without the novel, though I prefer if you read the novel first. The novel has slight differences from the drama, but it makes everything a lot more clearer (especially Aranya Dream Arc). And, I feel like the novel shows the thoughts of the characters more, which makes their relationship very intricate. When you watch the drama, you will know their thoughts for each scene, which was an interesting perceptive. The ending is happy, no worries!

Even reading the book made me cry at the ending scene, so I can imagine how much feel it would give acted out. Haven’t seen it but will soon!

Mortal arc is so boring in this drama compare to TMOPB or AOL. And I skipped a lot of it since half of the mortal arc isn’t in the book anyways. It picks up after they return to heaven.

Omg these casts are everything, definitely in my watch list. Mark Chao and Deng Lun are everything and my Wang Duo baby is finally getting more projects as he deserves.

Wang Dou is everything. I love him so so much after watching bloody romance. He is so underrated, it’s not even funny. I wish to see him in more projects, especially historical ones. But seeing his 2020 drama list, there seems to be no hope.

So, as a huge c drama watcher who literally watched every mainstream drama, I was very hesitant to watch this one, maybe because I’m a TMOPB fan, or maybe because I’m not so into the cast. I watched Princess Agent and wasn’t so into Deng Lun. But after feeling bored and have nothing to do and seeing that this is easily access on Youtube, I just watched it expecting nothing. This drama hooked me despite my hatred towards love triangle. The actors and actresses were so good and I have never cried as much as I did here in any other c drama. Tragedy is my thing and I loved it. Deng Lun as Xu Feng changed my whole prespective on him, so kudos to him. I would watch his future projects definitely.

The only problem is, I actually hated Run Yu, many loved him, I don’t. His actions are selfish and manipulative, and even abusive in some stances. I ended skipping his scenes, unable to stand him. I think Leo did a great job though, and his acting improved so much from fox in the screen days.

Yang Zi is the actress who does crying scenes the best, period. The way she cries is heart wrenching, the way she strains her words literally moved my soul. Jin Mi as a character is naive, almost dumb, but I love that she developed to become smarter after the pill broke.

Despite flaws, I love this drama and I think I will rewatch it sometimes when I want to feel angst and tragedy.

EXTREME SPOILER
The two brother lived. Zong Yue (the divine doc) went to many Kingdoms to help the main couple, while Yun Hen become the Emperor of Tai Yuan. Yun Hen couldn’t bring himself to kill Qi Zhen and let him live in the dungeon. Qi Zhen later escaped, and Zong Yue was determined to kill him for good this time. And so, in the end, Qi Zhen, Yun Hen and Zong Yue fought together and accidentally Qi Zhen killed his daughter. Very saddened, he killed himself.

Miraculously, Wuji came in time to give the daughter a supreme medicine (idk what it was), and the daughter lived but she needs an antidote to ever wake up. Zong Yue decided to find the antidote to make up for his wrongs (he blamed himself for the daughter’s injury). So, he took her away to find the antidote and that’s the end.

As for the Younger brother, he just goes back to Taiyuan to become Emperor. Which was kinda awkward, cause the girl he loved literally just left with his bro.

So much went on after he messed up her memory. They were going to have a very happy ending, but it was messed up and she basically thought DH ‘betrayed’ her. She literally was over him and hid from him for like so many thousands of years. She only forgave him when he was nearly dead and she found out all his reasonings for the ‘betrayal’ and all that he had done for her.

Serious?! No way. Xiao Yan deserves better. I don’t remember her ending up with him in the book tho and she had to play a big part in the plot by ruining DH and FJ’s marraige, so she can’t be any nicer lol

She’s a new face and really young too, but really pretty. Even when dressing as a guy in the pillow book, she was really pretty.

You will see though that in the end, he was really selfless and choose responsibility and safety of everyone else instead of what his heart wanted.

It is very similar to Eternal love, but unique in its own way. But it isn’t similar to Fuyao. Even the character archetype is very different.

Nope. This is a stand alone and their love story is entirely different from the way it played out in TMOPB

They are following the plot of the novel and if i remember correctly, Fengjiu does remember Donghua and she had quite a past with him. It is Donghua who does not remember her.
