I think you need to just really carefully listen to the dialogues. The male lead always say a lot of riddles that imply the FL should look beneath the surface (to know the truth behind her brother's death). The FL is smart and she understood the riddles, which caused her to hesitate. Later, she found out the truth that there's a really good reasoning behind why the ML had to kill her brother, which couldn't have been achieved if she had been dumb, don't give the ML a possibility of the doubt, and try to only take revenge.

I don't usually watch idol actors cdrama but due to how much this drama is talked about internationally and how it is a often called a 'masterpiece', I wanted to know the hype. I've always enjoyed wuxia too. However, watching this almost half way, I really didn't find it my cup of tea. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't a 'masterpiece'. I've seen way better from veteran actors, but less hype and lower rating here because they are not idols. I'm not sure if I can finish watching this. Hope it'll get better.

This is my first cdrama and I'm rewatching it rn. Still love it as much as before. The CGI is crappy now, but back when I watched this in 2015, I thought the CGI was amazing lol. I know a lot of people hate the ML but for me, the ML is what makes this drama a rare gem. He is very different from the usual, perfect, husband-material ML in today's cdrama. I love his character in that he is very true to his principles. I think I actually like how he stayed true to his principles until the very end before the last scene. It makes that one last scene very impactful and memorable for me. I think if the ML had been easily swayed, there won't be such a long lasting impact when he finally gave in. I don't think any drama these days are ever going to be daring enough to create such an adamant aML like Bai Zihua again, and for that, I'd forever treasure this drama.

Also, rewatching this, I've notice that a common trait shared by every characters is that they are all really stubborn lmao. the reason this isn't many people's cup of tea is because the characters are stubborn asf. But if you can tolerate their stubbornness, this is easily one of the best classic cdrama out there

I'm rewatching this and um, I'm not sure if my expectations for drama has become high or what, but I feel like the production quality is quite bland. I watched this once it first came out and I didn't feel this way. I totally enjoyed it and rated it 10/10. But upon rewatching, I don't know why I feel like it's not on par with the other 3 lives 3 world parallels. Firstly, I'm really annoyed with whoever dubbed reba. Her voice is so pathetically like a baby. I'm sorry, I know it's supposed to be her character, but still it's a little much 😭. Also the production quality, especially the CGI, like when she's a fox was really cringy. The whole Jiuchongtain and taichen palace also look cheap asf. Anyways, I'll continue rewatching. I need to know what was with the drama that makes me rate it 10/10 back then TT

Ok, I just finished this drama and came back to read the comments. I can't believe there's controversies that this romanticized abusive relationship. I'm one who is really against such portrayal in drama, but I really cannot see how the ML is abusive to FL. He never mistreated her, in fact, he was the one to have saved her. All of the actions he took was the necessary means of saving her, and in the context of a fantasy Xianxia drama, I found it completely understandable (admirable even for the self sacrifices). As for the forced kisses, I'm not sure how people watched it and think it's forced. The FL clearly enjoyed it after. Literally, Ling Xi was an epitome of tsundere. If we consider Jiu Chen abusive, then I don't know what Ye Hua is then. Idk why no one says anything about Ye Hua and his actions towards SuSu.

As for the age gap. This is a fricking Xianxia drama ffs. They're all immortal who will live forever. The age and time systems within such realms obviously differs from our perception. I don't think basing our own moral perception of age gaps in relationship to judge what's right and wrong in their world is equitable. Fun fact though, Jiu Chen and Ling Xi's age gap is probably less than Donghua and Feng Jiu but I don't see anyone complaining about the latter.

All these aside, I'll be the one to say it, this is the best Xianxia drama I've ever watched. For me, it's on par with TMOPB. if you are a fan of Xianxia, don't hesitate to watch this one.

I don't see how this romanticized abuse at all. If you finished the drama, you'll know that the male lead has never once mistreated the female lead, and definitely not abusive. In fact, he was the one to have saved her. I think this deserves to be highly rated.

If you don't have VIP for WeTV, maybe watch on Netflix since there's no ads and you can watch in HD? But if you have VIP, WeTV is really great. I found the subtitles not vastly different between the two.

depends on what you like. If you want something similar to this one, you can watch the drama in the recommendation sections of this page. They are all really good, I can vouch for that. My favorites that are similar to this drama are Nirvana in Fire, the Rise of the Phoenixes, and Legend of Fu Yao.

They focuses a lot on the court drama and power struggle in ML's kingdom for most of the drama. The latter 10 ep however have more adventure and war. I find the politics very entertaining, but if you're not a fan of it, I suppose it will continue to bore you. either ways, you can always skip. The politics will be less by the latter 10 ep of the drama, so if you have the patience, I think it's quite worth it.

wow the Koreaboo under me shitting on this drama (and even the whole China to glorify Korea lmao) without understanding the intricacy of Xianxia as a genre. All their logics are so fucking dumb, so if you're into reading clownery shits, read the comment below me for a good laugh lmao. That aside, this drama is absolutely beautiful. I'm rewatching it right now since the current mainstream cdramas are not (and perhaps will never again due to the new 40 ep restriction) give me the same overwhelming feeling the 'big 3' 3 lives 3 world franchise (TMOPB, LAD, AOL) gave me. On a second watch, I've noticed how much details is put into the drama, including the foreshadowing, the production, the story, everything. The romance is beautiful too with superb chemistry. Such a well done drama. I can't believe that the rating went from 8.7 to 8.4 since the last time I checked. I guess when there's Koreaboo tiktok kids, like the bs commenter below, entering the scene of cdrama, things are doomed to become like this.

some FL fans discrediting the ML, which makes me sad since I enjoyed both their performances and loved their chemistry. Since there's not many people who have said it, I just wanna put it out there that I really enjoy every moment with YY on the screen. I didn't mind many ep with his family storyline since I personally enjoy court drama. I think he did a great job in this drama, probably my favorite performance from him so far. Sure, some things could be better, but it's mostly the script's fault anyways.

That aside, YY's look with ponytail has to be the best look I've seen on him, like that look literally carried the drama for me ahaha <33
