I know everyone was complaining about the ending...is rushed. Yes it was rushed and there were many loose ends..…
Yeah, the second daughter in law was so weird.

But that sect stuff was so unnecessary! It didn’t add anything.

I am overlooking it all because enough of it was done well. Loved the 3 leads.

In eps 7 & 11 , it’s mentioned that Chen Yanyun was already married once for 2 years and is now widowed.…
You know what’s also gross now that I think about it? Fu Haitian and his wife. She says they’ve been married 20 years, but Chinese women in those days got married young, so she might only be in her late thirties, 40s at most and he’s 70!

They fix a lot of the issues in the drama. In the drama it is mentioned that he was married, but that it was arranged…
He’s already been a guardian to CXQ for 10 years, so my guess was around 29. Close!

Title A Splendid Match Spoiler
I'm rewatching, and I cannot really get my head around the ending plot.

1. Why did they need to pretend CYY was dead? He was alone at the front lines, the Emperor and the ministers were moved to action when they got a letter from YeXian saying that the cities near the border were about to fall and all the men of Yan were outnumbered - why pretend he was dead?

2. Why did FL keep pretending she was going to kill herself, like it was any real leverage? None of us felt she would kill herself, everyone else said things like, she'd never kill herself (Even CYY when he heard she wasn't eating or sleeping when they fought, and when the noble ladies were spreading rumours about her and Wang Zan). And why would Minister Fu have despatched troops if she killed herself? They have no personal enmity! Just a professional tussle. I can't help but feel it was forced in to show that she was making a real contribution and sacrifice tor CYY. I think the trailers presented it like she helped him to victory by clearing the enemies with her life (at stake). Yes to having a competent FL, but she doesn't have to be at the forefront fighting all the made up plots!

3. At the end, when Minister Fu and CYY have confronted each other, there are no high stakes. CYY has a sword pointed at an old man. The servant is very slowly lighting the house on fire. We have seen CYY fight unarmed men - he just storms in and punches them. There was no way he couldn't have punched Minister Fu, grabbed the book, and saved them both from the fire.

I loved a lot of the parts of this series - the main leads were excellent! But yeah, some of the drama logic was not doing it for me.

I mean, obviously I hated the abrupt ending, but that's all it was, an abrupt ending.

They fix a lot of the issues in the drama. In the drama it is mentioned that he was married, but that it was arranged by his mother, and they presented themselves as married but were not in love. In this drama, he is also forced by his mother to grow up and assume family responsibilities young, and never had any interest in women - so he is not some gross experienced predator who is looking to groom a young girl - which it sounds like it was in the novel. And i got the feeling in the drama he was in his late 20s, early 30s rather than 40s/50s - but that's probably because of how Ci Sha looks and they made it ambiguous and most people would find 40s/20s love story gross.

Those costumes were exquisite. I’ve never seen such beautiful detailing and layering. (For example, the colours of the dresses in Are you the One, or Flourished Peony didn't draw my eye) I don’t think there are many series set in the Ming dynasty. I love the dresses FL wears, beautifully cut, and even though shapeless, incredibly elegant. On me they would look like a muumuu 🤣 but she looked like a doll. The hair was so pretty. And Ci Sha’s whipping outfit was gorgeous. Taking him out of stiff official attire was a good move.

Can I just say- to me this is the only drama couple where I'm not annoyed by their hugs. Because they look sincere…
You’d think hugging and kissing someone naturally is an important skill as an actor - after all, you’re selling a character. But alas, you’re right. It’s weird when most cdramas end with seeing the married couples, and they act like a cheeky peck on the cheek is thrilling and exciting for them 🤣🤣

I don’t have a lot of time to catch up, so I’m skimming first. But… why is CXQ dressed up like a clown and dancing like a chicken? Why???? 🥲

I’d end up feeling angry and vengeful if you made me do that too! 🤣

I love the uncomfortable faces CXQ’s servant makes when he sees CXQ being delusional 🤣 in the scene where CXQ steps on GJZ’s earring, the servant is basically cringing at what CXQ is doing.

I really like ren min. I only saw her when skimming through the Rise of Ning (couldn’t get into the romance of her with Zhang Wanyi), and thought she looked really cute and unique. Even though she’s late 20s, I find it easy to believe that she’s 16, she still has very rounded features.

I do think Cdramas have to stop casting old actresses in young roles. The suspension of disbelief is too great when I have to believe that Jing Tian is a naive 17 year old. No matter how good they still look for their age, a nearly 40 something acts and looks it. Obviously I understand old established actresses have a better fan base, so it won’t happen.

In episode 32, when she’s asleep (around 10:20) does she have plushies on the bed like we do? 😂😂

People are here already calling ML a bad husband because he will get jealous when he learns about GJZ former crush…
I agree he’s heartbroken more than jealous.

FL should have told ML as soon as CXQ started pestering her. As husband and wife, they agreed to face things together - that includes telling each other any problems. In my opinion, FL should be chasing and apologising to him for causing hurt and humiliation. Instead she’s stubbornly claiming she has done nothing wrong.

Not telling ML allowed CXQ to feel like he had a secret past with GJZ.

As someone who read the novel I'm mostly satisfied with this drama. Especially, the wedding night scene. Chinese…
What are his motivations in the novel?
