Honestly this makes sense since in the trailer for this season I saw YD stabbing TZ so I was pretty confident…
I watched one of the fan videos which predicts she will be dying when YY returns, so he takes her to the heavenly realm to be cured. And Zhi Xi gives her half of her heart. But I thought ZX gave the emperor half of her heart to get him out of a coma? Or did she just give her heart blood? 🤷🏻♀️
These two episodes were amazing. I’ve never seen such character growth in a drama. YD herself is pushing TZ/YY towards the path of greater good. And she forgives him 🥹 So SO happy.
And I have to admit I didn’t care much for TZ’s backstory and his Shi fu before, and most xian xia doesn’t explore it to be honest. But seeing TZ at his shi fu’s grave was heartbreaking, and seeing his responsibility and bond towards his sisters and brothers makes you really understand how hard it is to be TZ, how loved he is, and how much his life before YD meant to him. (I know lots of people here are huge fans of AoL, so apologies beforehand for the comparison! but it always bothered me that when Xu Feng was king in the mortal realm his personality wasn’t any different, and he didn’t feel burdened by a sense of responsibility or seem to have any close ties. At the end he just committed suicide and left his kingdom. It felt like the writers were just giving him a chance to do what he couldn’t in the godly realm but didn’t offer him any character growth.)
The last part is beautiful 🥺 TZ says to YD ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful if time could stop and I could live in this moment forever.’ And YD says (excuse my happy tears 🥹😭😭😭) ‘when you’re with me, every moment is wonderful.’
It looks like the actual date they went on, but if they make TZ pass out mid-date and I find out this is a dream I’ll trash my tv!!

Just thinking, I remember people thinking YY should have been braver at the beginning and defied the heavenly emperor. But I think being brave and dying together is only something two people who truly understand each other can do.
I don’t think YY realised until after the forgetting river (when she refused to cross) how much she loved him. He always knew the depth of his love for YD (that’s why he took the love punishment) - but you don’t truly know anyone else’s, and he thought that there was a possibility she could forget him and live happily - which if it were most people could probably be the case. Even lamp gave him up at the end and wanted to consume him instead.
In the first arc, when YY didn’t understand YD, to make YD suffer the love punishment (where most gods die) was not an option when he truly believed she could move on and forget him. So he took the love punishment alone because he can only be confident in his own love for her. But in the third arc, they will suffer it together because they now know that neither wants to live without the other.
Every time they release new episodes I finish and then I’m like ‘was that it?? 😭😭😭?’ I just can’t seem to get enough. I just want to see them happy together 🥺
It’s making me so sad seeing TZ getting so weak. I can see how YD has no choice but to restore him since he’s dying but my god it’s going to kill me when TZ dies 😭
I wish YD would be honest with him. She wanted honesty from YY in the heavens but now she’s the one not being honest. Now TZ feels unloved and is in pain. She should tell him she loves him but he’s dying, that’s better than pretending she doesn’t!
Although, maybe that’s what she does in the next few episodes because it looks like she softens a lot and he’s sad because he’s not the first one she loved.
I think I love this more than TMoPB (or I might be swept up in the emotion, we shall see how often I rewatch it!).
But that is not something I say lightly as that’s my benchmark for emotional and epic xian xia. But IS is just heartwrenching and so many of the scenes, even when I jump in and out of them make me feel so much emotion. In TMoPB the most import thing for me was how excellent Mark Chao was at delivering the emotional scenes and the CP feel of the main couple, they were really well matched in emotions and looks. Your heart ached for Ye Hua. I feel like Cheng Yi really pushes IS up to that level, as does Yang Zi. The focus is really on the actors in IS and their expressions and emotions. I go full on ugly sobbing mode in the ep 39 scene when she rejects TZ.
I have seen many xian xia and costume drama since TMoPB and a lot of them felt like they were just box ticking for the audience, like yes to up and coming leads, yes to bickering and the suffering, the CGI and the misunderstanding. It’s easy to make a big budget xian xia, but not easy to make one that stays with you for so long.
One of the other highlights is the lack of episode upon episode of filler. Despite there being some filler (which is debatable since it depends how much you like the side characters) it has far less filler than other xian xia, and each arc is really exciting. (I’m looking at you Pillowbook!!! And your 15 episodes of Feng Jiu being dijun’s cleaner and then pet fox 😅)
