then the drama did that girl dirty lol. i just looked back at my review and i compared her to an abandoned 3 year old and said that for the 1st 7 eps she had nothing even resembling self respect.

as a licensed psychologist i would think you'd know the difference b/w sexual interests that are simply less typical (commonly known as fetishes) and paraphilias which are associated with mental illness.

acting is subjective tho, isn't it enough that he met the expectations of the director who had a certain image…
individual enjoyment of a performance is subjective, but whether or not the performance was technically proficient is not.

it's kind of like singing. you can enjoy a performance, but the singer either hit the notes or didnt.

oh you could totally get a full 16+ run series or even several American style tv seasons out of this concept.

but i also think you could have gotten a solid 121 minutes out of it. good stories leave you wanting more :)

the concept was too complex for a short drama like that.
i both agree and disagree. i think skill wise it might have been too complex for some of the people working on it to give it it's due in the limited time, but i don't think the 121 minute run time is inherently not enough time. lots of story tellers do more with less, even with low budgets.

what, is it on there?
i had to google the name of the show in thai for this to come up. all the text on the website is in thai too. but it seems to be through a bundle with disney + called hotstar , which is Indian. if you don't have the hotstar bundle you might not be able to watch it even if you find the right region.

Not in the US.

i don't know why the korean production team decided to take this on when they obviously couldn't do the story with the budget they had. 80% of the issues came from adjustments they had to make to fit the constraints.

10% was Nam Joo Hyuk looking like he was trying to hold in a fart the ENTIRE time.

wonderful exploration of j-dramas.

i see this a lot around the website so i just wanted to clarify something for other users. stating that you do not own images or giving credit to the owners does not actually do anything, legally speaking, if you're using copyrighted images w/out permission.

most individuals or companies arent going to come after people using their images for an article like this or posting them on the feeds/forums, (i mean who has time for that really?) but i don't want anyone thinking they have protected themselves against copyright claims in any legal sense just by using that kind of disclaimer.

i suspect there are many places where it is culturally acceptable. it would take multiple generations of cousin level inbreeding with little introduction of new genetic material for problems to arise.

i think it's going to depend on the relationship b/w the step siblings. i know people who grew up with step siblings but never really saw them as their brother or sister. i view my step brothers as my brothers.

It's taboo depanding on which society you live in. Westerns tend to think that their way of living and thinking…
marrying your 1st cousin hasnt been taboo for as long as many westerns like to think. in the US you didnt get laws against it till the mid 1800's. in other parts of the west the practice didn't become taboo until after the 1st world war.

people say it's to prevent genetic problems from inbreeding but as long as you arent talking about double cousins ( two sisters marry two brothers and then their offspring marry each other) cousins occasionally marrying isnt enough to cause problems.

i don't know that i would call Move to Heaven representation for autistic people. to draw an imperfect comparison,…
i have no argument with anyone who saw something of themself in Gue-ru. From my interaction with my own family, friends and the community i see that people on the spectrum are so much more than this flat presentation of a handful of stereotypical symptoms.

you are right about his macguffiness, he was barely more than a plot device.

at one point my daughter (on the spectrum) was like "ohh! he's stimming!...kinda..." she was excited to see it at all but then reminded that the full on arm flapping like she and many of her peers do, only gets shown as a bad thing when it gets shown at all.

i honestly didn't get past the 1st episode of that. i don't rule out the possibility of picking it up again at some point (k-dramas are notorious for awful 1st episodes) nothing about it made me want to watch further.

there are certainly autisitc people who will see at least parts of themselves in this character.

to me it seemed more like what someone who had no real experience with ASD or people on the spectrum thinks it's like. there is nothing here that could not have been gleaned from watching a handful of movies or shows with an autistic character. some of it's bound to hit close for some people.

it is romanticized, imo. it's not alone in that. but no show wants to have a story line about how sometimes you end up in the hospital b/c your crossed wires mean you don't feel thirst or pain the way neurotypical people do. "i forgot to drink" isnt compelling TV. though one time my husband did almost die b/c an abscess burst in his digestive tract and his only symptom was "i fell nauseous when i eat." no pain. blew all the doctors and nurses minds.

he reminded me of one of those plushies you can get of of the germs that cause things like the black plague and e-coli. cute, but not at all representative.

also... i feel icky even pointing this out, i hate to be that person. .. Autism isnt a mental illness. it's classified as a neurological developmental disorder.

I was talking about “Move to Heaven” on my Feed, gave it a solid 7 for performances and the cases themselves.I…
i don't know that i would call Move to Heaven representation for autistic people. to draw an imperfect comparison, it feels more like cultural appropriation.

the whole "autism as a super power" trope is tired and creeping ever closer to offensive with each shallow use. we don't learn much about Geu-ru himself and when we are given something it's immediately followed by "because autism".

he's infantilized though there is no indication of intellectual or cognitive deficit. he is largely portrayed as emotionless. When they do assign him emotions aside from panic at his changing environment the writers simply TELL you what he's feeling instead of letting the performance show us like all the other characters.

the autism spectrum is wide and diverse. MTH is just one more "autistic boy genius" in a community that is largely NOT that.
Jeana Oct 18, 2021
doom at your service 100% thought it was being deep. it was not.

my problem with Move To Heaven, aside form the aforementioned snoozieness, is that it hinges on Han Gue Ru's autism. he's not a person he's a diagnosis. if you're going to make autism your character at least do it well. Don't give me korean Rain Man 2.0 and then not even do it as well as Joo Won did.
