i really like this drama, but i keep hearing people talk about her skin as if she can do something about it. i'm…
it would certainly cost more than the average person who is only sporadically employed could afford. Also, her hair is alot like my sister's. aint no amount of product going to take away the need for a straightening iron, which when you have hair like that is going to take 30-45 minutes a day. life's too short to spend that much time on your hair ;)

i really like this drama, but i keep hearing people talk about her skin as if she can do something about it. i'm hearing some people say it's acne, the Ceki91, you call it "flushing", which while i know what i means for your cheeks to flush i dont know exactly what you mean by this. to me it seems pretty obvious that she and her father have what Americans would call Rosacea, a skin condition marked by redness, visiable blood vessels thick skin and break outs. while there are treatments that can help reduce the appearance, they are expensive, so if her father's company went bust she probably wouldn't be spending money on laser treatments. in addition simply covering it with makeup can make it even worse if your Rosacea is accompanied by the acne like break outs common with the illness. as to the comments about her hair. yes it's thick and curly and she could do something about that, but again it's expensive to get it done at a salon and to tame that mess with a straightening iron would take FOREVER and would have to be a pretty much daily thing. i think it just doesn't bother her enough to expend that kind of money or effort, which is cool with me!

i just finished ep 3 too, and i have totally been waiting for the Goo Joon Pyo shoe to drop. i hope it doesnt. it's so refreshing to see a different take on this well established character. i like that Mu Liu bing doesnt belong in a home for the criminally insane like his predecessors- i'm looking at you Dao Ming Si.

When I saw Siwon was part of the cast, I hesistated to watch it. There are no many idol actors I like, and he…
Siwon does really well in roles like this. his niche is funny/ goofy and as long as he stays there he's good!

i've been curious about reply 1988. 1997 and 1994 did flash forwards but folks who were in their 20's in 1988 would be 50 or older now, so i didnt see how they could do convincing flash forwards with such young actors.

The real question is how common is this in Korean in real life?
it might be hard to know what individuals do in their own relationships, but i think there are some strong indicators that can give you a good idea of the value of women to a society. one of those indicators is how sexual assault is handled. the statute of limitations on sexual assault in Korea is six months. that tells you how important they think it is. another indicator is how single mothers are treated. it's pretty much the worse thing you can do. they way these women are treated is abhorrent. then you hear things from actual korean women, like a native south korean vlogger who talked about it being perfectly normal in seoul for club bouncers to grab korean women and drag them into clubs. while individuals might conduct themselves in perfectly respectable manner, these things indicate that women are not as valued as men are by the society. when one group is valued above another, it gives perfectly respectable people an out when they do something inexcusable. these things tell me that while the prevalence is certainly exaggerated for entertainment value, it goes on enough for people to relate to it.

I definitely agree with the first half of this post where we often see the male leads being abusive and yet they…
while the abusive superior is often portrayed negatively, it's a very narrow negativity. often (not always) the extras, the shop manager, the other customers, the "society at large" characters react with sympathy but mostly there's an attitude of "why did you poke the bear?" as if the person being abused brought it on themselves by their behavior, as opposed to "this is never ok". if an employer hit a subordinate they could be arrested and probably sued. if my husband's mother ever hit me and showed no remorse for her actions my husband would not speak to her until she did.

Okay, I'm sorry but I love the wrist grabs. It always intensifies the moment and makes it a really visual way…
the idea of a guy feeling so strongly he just has to grab you is a wonderful, thrilling idea, but that doesn't translate into real life. getting yanked around as though you have no say in the matter is just not ok when It actually happens to a real person. there has to be that line between fantasy and reality. that line can be rather flimsy in Asian countries.

What bothers me about these behaviors is not so much that it happens, it's the way it's received, by other characters…
that is foul. no one should be judged by the worst thing they ever did, but he's done nothing to show that he's truly remorseful or that he is trying to work on his short comings.

I'm glad someone else watched Playful Kiss and thought it was ridiculous. Everyone else keeps saying how romantic…
the fact that that show- in all of it's awful incarnations- has so many fans is disturbing. everyone has their own opinions and their own specific taste, but that is just...sad. ladies, no matter what you think about the show, just do me this one favor, if your partner treats you like that, run.

What bothers me about these behaviors is not so much that it happens, it's the way it's received, by other characters in the drama and by fans, many of whom are young and impressionable. Any story, in any medium, would be boring if all the characters were perfect and behaved perfectly all the time. can you imagine that drama? The fantastic Tale of Hee Jin and the how everyone was super nice all the time. ugh boring. i am perfectly fine with all of the things you touched on being present. rape happens, controlling and abusive partners happen, guys that cant take "GTFO!!" for an answer happen. in Asian drama (more so than the western shows) however it doesn't seem like a big deal. in the dramas i watch when girls are pinned up against the wall and a forcibly kissed despite their protestations, no one blinks. she doesn't go home and tell her mom "Li Tang assaulted me!" the reaction is generally no more serious than if they'd had an argument about where to spend the holidays. even this, as bothersome as it is, could be forgiven if there didn't seem to be a parallel in the cultural mindset, both in Asia and in the wider drama watching community. when male celebrities are accused of abusive behavior or sexual misconduct it's not only dismissed out of hand, but the accuser is largely vilified. When Park Shi Hoo was accused of sexual assault at the beginning of the scandal before anything was really made public the fan response was largely 1. Park Shi Hoo didnt rape her because he's so hot he can get whoever he wants, why would he need to rape any one? and 2. why are you complaining? you got to have sex with park shi hoo! even when confronted with a confession and photographic proof the kim hyun joong beat the crap out of his girlfriend on at least two occasion the response from many fans was to put it succinctly "so what? i love you oppa!!!!"
Western entertainment wont be getting any feminist of the year awards anytime soon, but rape, assault and abuse are largely treated as the awful things they are, both in the scope of the show/movie, and within the society. sure chris brown still has a job but you would be hard pressed to find anyone who would publicly say they didnt have a problem with him beating his girlfriend and if you could find that moron there'd be a million memes calling them a moron by the end of the day.
this reminds me of a time long ago when i was 15 and arguing with my boyfriend (18). i walked away from him and he grabbed my arm and tried to drag me back into my room. my father saw it, grabbed him by his collar and threw him out of the house. though we remain friends to this day, it was almost two years before he was allowed to step foot in my parents house again, my parents even called his and let them know if something like that ever happened again they'd press charges. And they could have. i dont think any dude in korea is getting charged for the wrist grab.

i'm on episode 3 and alot of the clothes look like project runway rejects. Fang si and Xiang Nan are mostly ok until they try to dress up, only a few of director Yin's outfits have made me cringe so far, but Jerry Yan has obviously lost a bet. if this show didnt revolve around the fashion industry it wouldn't be so bad but i just can not believe that anyone thought sending Li Tang into a party wearing a denim jack with french bull dog face hanging off of it was a good idea lol. other than that i am liking it so far.

oh Sung Joon, when will you get a fully functioning set of emotions? i cant tell if he's really a bad actor or if he just keeps pulling these monotone roles. either way, he needs to start turning down the romantic stuff because it is not his strong suit, though at this point i can't say i've seen anything i thought he was good in.

i'm watching this on hulu, where there are only 12 eps up. i'm on ep 10 and thought there were only 12, which was a great relief. the chemistry is seriously lacking, which wouldn't be so bad if there was ANYTHING else going on. the plot (such as it is) has been laser focused on these two, and they aren't all that fun to watch except in the flash backs. i was going to hang in and finish when i thought i only had two episodes left, but i cant do another ten.

watched 6 episodes so far and it's great at the moment. love everything of it. female lead looks pretty & lovable.character…
i feel they struck a really good balance with the female lead. so often when they go for the pure innocent vibe they err a little too heavily on the side of childish which gives me the jeebs. here they manage to give her that vibe without making her feel like a child.
