isnt that sad? when "slightly less douchey" is great improvement? i'll let this get a few eps in and give it a whirl.

i've only gotten all the way through playful kiss and the anime. i've given all the others a chance but generally after a few episodes i drop it. i just dont get what is so romantic about an emotionally abusive relationship.

Why does N always look like he's going to eat your soul?
even when he's smiling I just get this anime villain vibe off of him.

Title Kiss Me
i have tried every incarnation of this story, the anime ,the Korean version, both Japanese versions, the one from Taiwan. i've tried it all because each version has loyalists who assure me that my problems with the characters are simply due to poor production and if i watch their favored version i will surely see the romance in it. i'm in the "he treats her like crap how is this romantic?" camp. but i am interested to see where this goes because i thought the version of Full House the leads did took a softer more romantic turn than the Korean original. i wonder if they will do the same with this.

i really like this drama, but i keep hearing people talk about her skin as if she can do something about it. i'm…
it would certainly cost more than the average person who is only sporadically employed could afford. Also, her hair is alot like my sister's. aint no amount of product going to take away the need for a straightening iron, which when you have hair like that is going to take 30-45 minutes a day. life's too short to spend that much time on your hair ;)
Ceki Oct 2, 2015
i really like this drama, but i keep hearing people talk about her skin as if she can do something about it. i'm hearing some people say it's acne, the Ceki91, you call it "flushing", which while i know what i means for your cheeks to flush i dont know exactly what you mean by this. to me it seems pretty obvious that she and her father have what Americans would call Rosacea, a skin condition marked by redness, visiable blood vessels thick skin and break outs. while there are treatments that can help reduce the appearance, they are expensive, so if her father's company went bust she probably wouldn't be spending money on laser treatments. in addition simply covering it with makeup can make it even worse if your Rosacea is accompanied by the acne like break outs common with the illness. as to the comments about her hair. yes it's thick and curly and she could do something about that, but again it's expensive to get it done at a salon and to tame that mess with a straightening iron would take FOREVER and would have to be a pretty much daily thing. i think it just doesn't bother her enough to expend that kind of money or effort, which is cool with me!

i just finished ep 3 too, and i have totally been waiting for the Goo Joon Pyo shoe to drop. i hope it doesnt. it's so refreshing to see a different take on this well established character. i like that Mu Liu bing doesnt belong in a home for the criminally insane like his predecessors- i'm looking at you Dao Ming Si.

Siwon does really well in roles like this. his niche is funny/ goofy and as long as he stays there he's good!

i've been curious about reply 1988. 1997 and 1994 did flash forwards but folks who were in their 20's in 1988 would be 50 or older now, so i didnt see how they could do convincing flash forwards with such young actors.

this would have made a much better drama. i loved it but there was so much going on that a 2 hr movie didnt do it justice.

The real question is how common is this in Korean in real life?
it might be hard to know what individuals do in their own relationships, but i think there are some strong indicators that can give you a good idea of the value of women to a society. one of those indicators is how sexual assault is handled. the statute of limitations on sexual assault in Korea is six months. that tells you how important they think it is. another indicator is how single mothers are treated. it's pretty much the worse thing you can do. they way these women are treated is abhorrent. then you hear things from actual korean women, like a native south korean vlogger who talked about it being perfectly normal in seoul for club bouncers to grab korean women and drag them into clubs. while individuals might conduct themselves in perfectly respectable manner, these things indicate that women are not as valued as men are by the society. when one group is valued above another, it gives perfectly respectable people an out when they do something inexcusable. these things tell me that while the prevalence is certainly exaggerated for entertainment value, it goes on enough for people to relate to it.

I definitely agree with the first half of this post where we often see the male leads being abusive and yet they…
while the abusive superior is often portrayed negatively, it's a very narrow negativity. often (not always) the extras, the shop manager, the other customers, the "society at large" characters react with sympathy but mostly there's an attitude of "why did you poke the bear?" as if the person being abused brought it on themselves by their behavior, as opposed to "this is never ok". if an employer hit a subordinate they could be arrested and probably sued. if my husband's mother ever hit me and showed no remorse for her actions my husband would not speak to her until she did.

Okay, I'm sorry but I love the wrist grabs. It always intensifies the moment and makes it a really visual way…
the idea of a guy feeling so strongly he just has to grab you is a wonderful, thrilling idea, but that doesn't translate into real life. getting yanked around as though you have no say in the matter is just not ok when It actually happens to a real person. there has to be that line between fantasy and reality. that line can be rather flimsy in Asian countries.

What bothers me about these behaviors is not so much that it happens, it's the way it's received, by other characters…
that is foul. no one should be judged by the worst thing they ever did, but he's done nothing to show that he's truly remorseful or that he is trying to work on his short comings.

I'm glad someone else watched Playful Kiss and thought it was ridiculous. Everyone else keeps saying how romantic…
the fact that that show- in all of it's awful incarnations- has so many fans is disturbing. everyone has their own opinions and their own specific taste, but that is just...sad. ladies, no matter what you think about the show, just do me this one favor, if your partner treats you like that, run.
