Sang Jiu's apple π : Giving/throwing an apple to someone, in ancient Greece, was a sign of declaring love. Sometimes, it could also be a ploy of seduction. So when Ming Ye caught the apple that fell on him, it then represented him welcoming Sang Jiu's love. Its interesting cause this apple was also the reason they got closer to each other. It's honestly so sad the tree got cut down by Tian Huan... π
Ming Ye kneeling π§: In psychology, kneeling is a sign of submissiveness and sadness or extreme vulnerability. Him doing this after Sang Jiu asked "Did you ever even love me? "meant that he surrendered and confessed defeat because he did fell in love with her. As he couldn't tell her or show her, he knelt to display his sorrow. Therefore, his next replies to Sang Jiu like the "Never." onwards are all untrue. π
TTJ in the novel detested new feelings and avoids it like a virus, mostly because of the evil bone and the abuses he received. He even constantly thinks about how to k*ll YXW everytime she gets near him. But the sad truth of this was, he just didn't know how to properly respond to the 'itch' (as he called it) or the new variety of feelings forming in him whenever he was with her.
YXW was the only and 'first' one who 'understood' him, and not just pitied him unlike his two nannies who betrayed him. Thus, he slowly formed real feelings for her. That moment where they were drawing talismans (Ep 6) were a perfect example of his internal dilemma about those feelings, and it was also the first time he wasn't irritated by the 'itch' from her. Here's the small excerpt from the Novel of this scene:
The warm light dispersed and the talisman turned into a beautiful painting of snow on the mountain top, white plumes, waterfalls and falling leaves, daylight and winding vines ...
Rabbits gathered around him shyly and poked their heads out curiously. Then, the water from the stream flowed over his hands, washing away the smell of blood.
He was stunned. Beyond the vision, Ye Xi Wu looked at him with a warm smile and bright eyes.
A dot of cinnabar was rubbed on the arch of her brows. His dark pupils stared at her, and his fingers curled tight.
Ye Xi Wu asked, "Is it pretty?"
Tantai Jin did not say anything. He only frowned and coldly looked at her.
Tan Tai Jin in this adaptaion, actually cherishing the talismans and responding with a smile to Ye Xi Wu was a really big upgrade. β€
He would feel extreme happiness from the smell of blood, and enjoys the fear / flustered faces of people. During the "crow incident in Ep5", in the novel, Ye Xi Wu really almost died after TTJ suddenly ordered a wasp to 'kill her', just because of him reasoning he was irritated by her and that she was 'not useful' to him anymore. Even all demons were afraid of him, not just 'cause of his blood, and so whatever he orders them to do- they'll follow.
He would not even tolerate all those bullying and abuse in the novel. Unlike the usual heroes who forgives and move on, TTJ only thinks about the injustices be repaid with blood / death. He has been accumulating anger since childhood and has long been planning to kill everyone who abused him. Therefore, when he was given a chance to finally not feel powerless, it was reasonable he grabbed that opportunity and felt satisfied (That is, absorbing demon power).
I don't really see that they toned down on his evilness in the drama, and I like that tbh. LYX perfectly portrayed a ruthless villain that I almost did not notice the changes. I very much agree that LYX nailed this role. I'm definitely eating this drama till the end.
