I just finished watching this masterpiece.... I love the story and the ending was just right! Would have been great if Wu Zi Qui and Purple Fox were present at the wedding... I will be thinking about this drama for a little while :)

This show is finally picking up, gahhhh! Hopefully we’ll see more substance next week. Sister and teacher’s romance cracks me up.

LOL 72 times...and he is still alive XD die hard
It’s my first xianxia and as I watched him (and the rest of the cast) spit what seems to be half his total blood volume I wondered if this is the norm for this genre? Please tell. Thanks.

OH MY GOD! I finally found out one of the reasons why I scream SI FENG's name out of nowhere no matter what shows…
You are so funny! My hubby was making his report in the same room I was watching and by the end of the day he asked what in the world was sifangggg? That’s all he could hear over and over again.

It’s cute, it’s fluffy and it’s cute,
The characters are endearing, OSTs are bang on and the story is good but a little too long for the plot to come together in my opinion.

Thanks for the recommendations! I love that you listed The Disguiser! I was surprised to see that Six Flying Dragons…
I love SFD! It was my first foray into the historical drama genre and I was pretty proud of my choice.

But this show isn't meant to follow in the footsteps of the Reply series at all. It's more like Prison Playbook.…
Funny, I see them as good friends who happen to be elite doctors. I guess our perspectives differ right from the get go.

I don’t think that any drama is meant to follow any footsteps as every drama is supposed to be unique unless it’s specifically a remake. I think what I meant by copycat is more the feels of the drama. It is very similar to the Reply series where they follow a group of friends from childhood (in Reply 1988 at least). In Prison Playbook it’s more about how they developed the adult friendship in the span of a little more than a year. Thanks for engaging fellow ahjumma!

hmm I don't think that they failed. For me the friendship felt the same as in reply 1988. the only difference…
Exactly my point, the series didn’t really showed how their relationship developed, how it started yes but like you mentioned it was tidbits here and there hence I can’t feel the depth of their friendship. I suppose it’s only been 12 episodes and apparently there’s a season 2 but don’t you think a lot could be revealed in 12 hours of storytelling time?

The director, Shin Won Ho is also the director for Reply 1988 so of course they would have a similar feel..
Yay! Come back here after you’ve watched it and let’s chat some more!

If you haven’t yet I highly recommend Reply 1988 then you’ll understand what I mean

My point is that it failed to produce “the feels” of Reply 1988, which is one of my all-time fave.

I am disappointed, this is a try hard Reply 1988 copycat but failed in so many ways. The only thing that kept me engaged was the acting of the main leads. The banter back and forth was funny to watch, the story not so much. While the band is a novel idea it did not make sense. I think I’ll pass Season 2.

This has got to be the cheesiest rom com I have watched to date. All the cliches have been covered (except maybe for the no shirt scene, lols). I watched because I really want to see LJG in a light role, I found myself forcing to watch till the very end but watched I did. Props to the casting team, they found the perfect actress for this role, Lee Da Hae owned this one, just enough silliness without being annoying. It was fun to watch Dong Wook so gullible, hahah! Hard to believe how fashion was so different just 15 years ago.

Have fun watching if you have time for some silly laughs.

A messy script but have to admit the bra pad was funnnny! I would have liked if they expanded the mom-daughter relationship story, that would have saved this drama instead the male lead’s face is the saving grace and I agree.

While I have NOT watched most of the dramas mentioned here, reading through the description of the FL characters in this article makes me conclude that the writer’s picture of “not your average FL” is a female who will stand up, speak up or fight back when her rights are ignored or taken away or when her loved ones are taken advantage of . These ladies just won’t sit idly by and take no for an answer. They are strong, passionate and justice seekers. I, too, find myself inspired and empowered watching these characters on screen, however, my idea of a not so average FL is someone with a strong passion yet have a quiet demeanour. She is hard-working, fiercely independent and compassionate at the same time. These would include the likes of Lee Ji Ahn (IU in My Mister), Ha No Ra (Choi Ji Woo in Twenty Again) and Ok Da Jung (Lee Yo Won in Ms. temper and Nam Jung Gi).

Great article, some very interesting comments but all good perspectives. Thank you.

I had to drop this because it was getting too slow however I read the recaps at Dramabeans as I was curious enough to know the ending. I might go back to watch Jo woon’s crying scenes which lead me to watch this drama in the first place. His performance in the Good Doctor was so out of this world that I was quite interested in seeing him in other roles. Love the banter and the silly romantic fluff between the 2 main leads but the story fell flat along with a bunch of unnecessary characters.

A nice surprise. Light and entertaining yet thought provoking. Such a delight to see so many actors in 2 hours.
