Acting from leads in this drama is so poor. I have nothing against both actors, but it was so disappointing that I dropped after 10 episodes. Maybe the screenwriter or director also did a bad job for giving them such childish characters. Sorry, terrible experience.

I'm very sorry for the loss of your beloved ones. But I am not saying that it is wrong to be sad, or that no one in China mourn the death of living beings, a person, either family or friend. I've cried my eyes out in the last episodes of Snowy Night Timeless Love, for example. Just to name the more recent ones, like Fangs of Fortune, Love of Nirvana and Kill Me Love Me, they were all sad for me. The point is that people come to My DramaList to downgrade an excellent drama just to vent their frustration. I think more people should be encouraged to watch this kind of production, but many lose their enthusiasm because of ratings. And I disagree that "it is not our place to scold audiences". I am being critical of infantile audiences, although I know it is one of the main characteristics of cultural industry. I do not work in the entertainment industry, but many authors have being doing this kind of criticism since last century.

It is ok if you watch dramas to escape reality, but demand that cdramas must have happy endings is just childish and kind of xenophobic. Low ratings because of the death of a character you fancy or a couple that you ship is an expression of the colonizer mentality. If that is your case, all you want is to westernize the cultural production of a country where, in some aspects, death is just a fact of life and not the end of everything. Grow up or go watch Cinderella as someone already said it here. This drama is so historically rich and well produced, directed and written that how it ends is just a minor detail. I feel like LuSi , YuNing and their crew took me to an unapologetic journey with Dawu and Zijing showing the life of low/working class in Tang Dynasty. It was beautiful!!
Huo Zhan Bai what a green flag you are. Instead of kissing and romance (and I believe there is a lot of romance in this drama), we should talk more about Xue Zi Ye, the kind of woman she is, and how both changed and developed feelings for each other during the drama.
Amazing drama!! One of the best of this year, a 10/10 for me!! Dialogues and cinematography are beautiful. I have no words , thank you writers from China for giving us such a great story full of philosophical lessons. If you are not watching cdramas just for the romance, cute faces, cliches and happy endings, this is for you.
I liked this drama. It has a good character development. But I need to point out that Ning Meng should have a stronger reaction after what Su Wei Ran did to her. She was too lenient saying he had a good and a bad side. Physical abuse should not be tolerated by anyone in any case. ML was excesively toxic at the beggining, but at least we can understand that they were trying to portray the patriarcal environment of finance.
Don't take ratings seriously. I'm on episode 5 and it is a good drama. First I fell in love with the aesthetics and direction, it is a great production! Second, acting is on point, not overly cute, neither artificially dramatic. Shen Yue and Lin Yi are doing an excellent job, and second leads made me curious about their characters. The story may look cliche but the way it is being told is very creative. I have high hopes for Smile Code :) I am impressed on how Chinese dramas are getting better this year.
This drama is amazing. Every story or case is related to caracter development, not for the purpose to keep viewers engaged. All actors/actresses are pretty good too. It deserves better rating.
I loved it. It was exactly what I was expecting. Great acting Liu Xue Yi!! But also other actors did a decent job, there was no boring character in this cdrama. And thank you writer for giving us General of Yan/Luo Mei.

I think it was coherent with everything the writer showed us since the beginning: everyone, except by Moon Ji On, in that company always saw her as crazy, or flawed, or old, or dependent of her ex. She was constantly humiliated by her colleagues. The writer also showed how toxic is the media environment, with sexual harassment and all, so why would be the company understanding and try to accommodate according to her needs and well being?
