"suddenly walked super slowly when time mattered" do you really think that wouldn’t have been corrected…
That’s okay, and it’s great that she seems to be improving in others’ eyes as well. For me, her recent performances feel a bit copy-paste, even when the characters themselves aren’t really the same and would allow for more variation. I didn’t feel that way about her earlier work. In When a Man Falls in Love, she plays a somewhat arrogant, egoistic girl, while in Blade Man she’s one of the warmest, kindest characters. And when I watched Bride of Habaek, I never felt that she was the same or even a similar character as in Rookie Historian.
"suddenly walked super slowly when time mattered" do you really think that wouldn’t have been corrected…
We’re different. I may have more empathy than you. Saying someone can’t do something to save their life feels unnecessarily harsh to me, and I’d only say that in very extreme cases. I don’t want to live in a society where such harsh criticism is the norm, so I’ll call it out when I see it.

You started a paragraph by saying "Shin Sae Kyung can’t act to save her life" then went on to complain about things that are more the director’s responsibility than the actor’s. Now you are saying it’s hard to define whether someone is a good or bad actor. I agree, since people react differently to the same performance often. But then why make such an absolute statement? If you don’t like it, just say that. But don’t spew your opinion as if it were a fact. I responded because I’ve seen this kind of approach many times, not just with this actress, though more often with actresses in general. (The viewers are mainly women and I’ve never understood why women can be so harsh on each other. )People judge from their couches, often blaming actors for issues that come from the script or directing, while rarely calling out the directors. At the same time, they fail to separate the influence of the character, script, direction, and acting on the overall performance. As for the actress, I don’t think she’s the Meryl Streep of Korea, but she’s also not as bad as some people make her out to be. Her acting is OK and she has a unique beauty and charm that make her a perfect heroine, like a Disney character. That can definitely help her career, though it may also limit her in some ways. I first saw her in Rookie Historian without any idea who she was and the prejudice that she gets. And I liked her so much I even looked up her other shows on Netflix. Personally, I prefer her earlier work. The characters felt more varied, and her acting seemed more focused and consistent. Maybe that’s because directors were stricter with her back then. In recent years, her performances have been more or less at the same OK level. There’s nothing groundbreaking about her acting in this show either, but it’s far from deserving such harsh comments like "can’t act".
It started well, but the ending was laughable. Why did they have to make all the victims stupid? I don't mean…
"suddenly walked super slowly when time mattered" do you really think that wouldn’t have been corrected if the director wanted it differently? Actors follow the script and direction. It has nothing to do with who can or can’t act. You’re really trying hard to find something to complain about and putting the blame on the actress. Just say that you don't like her.
The flow of the movie felt a bit off in the first 20 mins. But once the story settles and characters are established, it really draws you in. I enjoyed the film overall, and I thought the pairing of PJM and SSK worked very well. I’d love to see them together again in a drama.
I started this show because of the above 8 rating here and also the fact that it has a 2nd season was promising. But this show turned out to be a very average drama, quite boring and forced sometimes. I don't mind a slow paced show if it makes sense but here it is just frustrating. Everything is predictable. There is no outstanding character and/or actor. Once again the rating here is nothing to do with how good or bad is a drama for real.
I liked this. The story is nothing special but the two main actors made the romance part really beliveable. The semi-god and Namsuri was great too. The rest of the cast was nothing special. The secondary couple was so meaningless. On Viki this show has a 9.2 rating. I think that is much closer to the truth than the one here.
I think you had issue with the FL sooner if you drop something in 5 mins.
For me, it seemed like this discussion was more about you than the show or the actress, but it looks like you didn’t enjoy what it revealed about yourself. I’m always surprised when people who are quick to judge others harshly turn out to be sensitive and want to tell people where to go and what to do.

Judging a 16 hour long show or an actor’s performance based on just five minutes is like judging a book by its cover. You’ve probably heard that it’s not the smartest thing to do, right? Using words like ‘shit’ and ‘crap’ so easily to describe someone else’s work says a lot about you. What makes you think that just because something isn’t to your taste it’s automatically ‘crap’ or ‘shit’? Based on your logic, I probably shouldn’t expect you to grow as a person after just two very telling messages, but I’m rooting for you anyway.
I wasn't surprised by the killer but I was surprised by the old man. I liked the last episode.
Hm, I think the old man was pretty obvious from the beginning. When the little girl found some pictures and he shouted at her to leave them alone, it stood out. The fact that his daughter wanted to get out of his home as soon as possible, cut all ties, and that he tried to convince the son to never meet their mother was very telling.
I’m a bit conflicted right now. As much as I’d love to like everything about this show because it gave us Go Hyun Jung’s fantastic performance in such an interesting role, almost everything else felt flat. Well, not everything: Han Dong Hee, the serial killer, and the copycat wannabe guy from the earlier episodes, Tae Tae Goo, were good. But the rest? Nothing special. The characters, the writing, the directing... I don’t know. I want a second season just to see the FL as a bit crazy serial killer, but at the same time, most of the other characters and actors I actually enjoyed are already dead/out.
I completly agree with you! I watched some of her dramas and her acting is painful to watch, I physically cringe…
It always made you cringe? Then why did you watch it multiple times? Why do people spend so much time on things they don’t like? I’d love to read an analysis on how this woman can trigger so many people. And who are these people? what are they like? who follow her works, claim to watch them, yet keep hating on her?
Rewatching this because it’s leaving Netflix in my region soon. The villain is really good and sexy. The first half of the show is quite strong. I don’t get why Shin Sae Kyeong doesn’t do more comedies, she’s made to be a rom-com heroine. The title makes it sound like it’s about a girl who can see smells, but I think that’s misleading. At first, the FL is smart and useful, and her special skill is a big part of the plot. But later the script reduces her to a boring support character. The ML is a good and his colleagues are incompetent and funny. Exactly what you’d expect in a show like this. Overall, it’s a fun watch. The only odd thing rewatching it in 2025 is the lack of makeup. Was no-makeup look trending in Korea in 2016? I think this might actually be SSK’s “least good” look in any of her daramas. She was prettier in earlier shows like Fashion King or High Kick.
I don’t understand why some people are so quick to judge and complain. Saying the leading actor is bad after only four episodes feels too harsh to me. You can’t compare him to the leading actress. She’s far more experienced, has better material to work with, and is an outstanding talent. Not being amazing doesn’t mean he’s bad. Why do some people always feel the need to bash and criticize? To me, he’s not bad, not great, but just fine.
