Totally feel you. I struggled getting into 3D donghua at first too, especially the ones released before 2020 as the animation back then was pretty rough and kinda janky lol. Season 1 is always the biggest hurdle. But once we get past that, the newer episodes easily clear most japanese anime 😂
Personally I think Shenman Studio and Sparkly Studio (Xuanji) have some of the best visual design and animation. Though yeah, Sparkly definitely plays favorites with their own projects 😂
Reina is the heart of this drama, in my opinion. I didn't root for her character, but she was the one who kept me intrigued to the storyline. The acting was excellent, she controlled her micro expression so well.
I’ve watched Liu Yuning in several dramas, and he’s always been a decent actor, his performances are consistently watchable. But what really stands out is how hard he works to improve himself. That effort truly shows in A Dream Within A Dream. I honestly think this is his best performance so far, even if it’s not his strongest drama plot-wise.
What impressed me most is his eye acting.... you don’t see that often especially among younger actors. From the start of ADWAD, I could tell his character wasn’t actually a bad guy just by reading the emotion in his eyes, not the plot. That kind of attention to detail really shows his growth. I hope he keeps learning and evolving, because a great actor never stops improving and doesn't care about stupid billing order.
