I don't think we ever see it before, it's now she lets us know where her pen name comes from.
I think he's a lot surprised to find out that his wife is a play write and an overnight star. And I think he's showing the beginnings of pride in her for her accomplishment. He immediately wanted to know all about her play; plot, themes, success. Which might hide some fear in case it's seditious or wildly against expectations for public morality. But I think he was just interested. And I bet he goes to see it or at least reads it since he genuinely loves that she has so many talents.
I went through the comments, and I find this interesting. Almost everyone agrees that the second madam handled…
I think we can definitely do both. See things from our modern perspective and see things from a period perspective ... for men and for women. Most people are doing that here on MDL aren't they? Or maybe we're doing it more after hashing it out a bit.
I mean, it's important that we see both in order to maintain what we have now (the ability to see both and the smarts to appreciate what we have now).
We do tend to be harder on women than we are on men though. Both men and women are guilty of this and there is plenty of academic research to show it.
Which means that I'm probably making excuses for us when I say this ... but perhaps it's easier to forgive a man for not understanding a woman's perspective than it is for us to forgive a woman for not understanding a woman's perspective.
The truth is that we should all be trying to understand all perspectives but, being the underdogs, it's hard not to feel that women should at least stick up for other women when nobody else will.
But as underdogs we learn to think the way that over-dogs do. We absorb the thinking that works against us. Because we're steeped in it 24/7 for our whole lives. Which is the most insidious thing.
She forced him. Which is either a big touche or a touch of hypocrisy. or both.
He loves it when he catches her being clever in that cunning plotting kind of way. I think he probably feels a bit vindicated and also he just loves the intellectual feats behind it. :-) Which makes sense ... gotta love a great idea when you see one ... and appreciate a beautiful plan when it's happening in front of you.
I don't think we ever see it before, it's now she lets us know where her pen name comes from.
I'm a little worried to be honest. It may seem more obvious because we know but people aren't too stupid, there are many who would like to take some shots at her, and she's liable to become famous at this rate. People will be working hard to figure out who the play-right is. Yikes.
Im genuinely amused that this is the first Chinese drama I have seen where everyone hates the ML 😭😅It's…
Haha. True. I don't think there are too many true haters who don't want him to learn and find a way to redeem himself but it does seem like there are a few.
The young newlywed comment was funny to me because they aren't sleeping together when many newlyweds can't keep their hands off each other. And he's the one who is older with the scars and blemishes to prove it while she is a bit younger and totally radiant especially in the glow up clothing. Lol.
She forced him. Which is either a big touche or a touch of hypocrisy. or both.
She never saw her grandfather use his power. Maybe he didn't but either way, she only saw him as a sweet old wise man who taught her and loved her.
I guess nobody knows what the rich and powerful do unless they are of that class. Connections and deceptions and power plays. Things nobody else can do or get away with. But to them it's just an ordinary Tuesday.
I genuinely don’t understand what Scholar Han did to make some of you dislike him. So far, this guy has not…
Don't know if he becomes a villain but he garnered the dislike for not telling the FL that the ML was trying so hard to find her when she was taken. He didn't know everything that the ML was doing but he saw how quickly LJQ responded, how desperate LJQ was to find her quickly and what his plan was. But he didn't share this information. Instead he made it sound like the ML caused the problem and then didn't care to help much ... while he had ridden in to the rescue.
I, for one, had been a Han fan up until then. But he lost me because I genuinely thought he was a big enough, honest enough man to give credit to everyone and anyone when it was due. Only he didn't have the integrity I thought he would have. And worse, he kind of lied to make himself look best.
I think this is why many came to dislike him. And he was deliberately using every opportunity to get the girl using his proximity to her ... while rubbing salt in LJQ's wound because he couldn't get closer to her.
Plus he had every opportunity to propose but didn't even though they were so close. He didn't because he knew she might say no since she didn't have feelings for him. Instead he did his own end run around her. Not as big or permanent as the end run that the ML pulled off ... but still.
Anyway, that's why. Plus the singing and he's a weee bit smug.
I think I missed the scene in which LanXiang’s master gave her the name Shen Rugu. Anyone who remembers which…
I don't think we saw such a scene. But I missed that her pen name was Shen Ruga!
I'm assuming that Ruga is a man's name. I gathered that everyone wants to think that it's Scholar Lu with a new style of writing. But OMG LanXiang ... you choose to use the name Shen ... and your writing is so obviously based on a woman's point of view.
Dear LanXian, you are Lu's apprentice and neither of you thinks that people will put 2+2 together to reach ... you?
The evidence Zhao Xing Tang gives the FL, we can all agree that's the paper we see FL burn in front of ML from…
There's some serious fighting coming (with another change in Emperor (if they continue to base this drama loosely on real historical events). So that might be why everyone (including ZXT) is in such bad shape.
Anyway, remember the man from the Opera troupe with the short finger? The one that LJQ put on a boat so that he could escape the Zhao's who were chasing him? He was the grown deposed CP that the then emperor had kept from the throne. That usurper emperor was the one that killed off the Shen family; the one that Lin and Shen grandfather has been against because they thought he was too powerful and would steal the throne from his brother (previous emporor) and the brother's son (previous CP) which he did. He deposed the 10 year old CP and the kid had to flee.
Anyway, LJQ helped him escape, the Zhao family must have collected evidence about it and Zhao Xingting somehow stole it. As to why she would give it to our FL? Maybe because she can't use it herself anymore and she's decided to give that power to LanXian.
The current emperor that LJQ saved may well have a problem with what LJQ did and see it as treason because it could endanger his throne and his own kids' chances to continue their dynasty. Truthfully, it was, on the face of it, a treasonous thing to do. But only a problem if that guy comes back with a view to the throne. He didn't seem like the type to try it and I guess LJQ didn't think he would try it, so he, LJQ, didn't kill him as he should have if he were being careful and smart.
Hmmm. The current King is based on a guy who only sat on the throne for a year. His chubbiness and overall ill health led to a heart attack. So the fighting is probably over his replacement. Which means we have to wonder if LJQ's mistake is coming back to haunt him or if it's just the other princes who are continuing to fight over who will be next.
Anyway, everyone's fortunes will hang in the balance depending on who they support and who will win ... so we will obviously have to wait to find out more.
I enjoy seeing Jinqi's worldview getting rocked. 😂 He is a very typical man for his time. With both the negative…
I agree. But I'm not able to remember a time when he pulled back from his end of a deal when it didn't benefit him anymore? do you mean his first marriage family alliance? Honestly asking, not challenging.
The drama is about female empowerment and to show that what a man can do, a woman can do better. She will soon…
A woman doesn't have to be perfect to deserve to be equal to any equally imperfect man. But deserving doesn't make things happen. Fairness is not how things work. And women who do exceptionally well, in this day and age, still have to be many times better than their male competitors in order to reach the heights that they achieve.
And the women who got us to this point? Well they truly had to be and were spectacular. Some used the privilege they were born with in order to open up new pathways for everyone. Some were just incredibly brilliant and hardworking with some considerable luck. With some of that luck probably coming in the form of a supportive husband, father, a shrewd backer or even an admirer.
Our FL here couldn't do what she does without the things that her privileged early years gave her (an extraordinary education, safety, good food, loving parents) and, likewise, she couldn't excel the way that she does if she weren't brilliant and a survivor. And she's had some breaks from some influential admirers too.
I think part of the story here is that you would have to be this brilliant and fortunate in order to blaze trails for subsequent generations.
The people who got us to where we are now probably weren't much different.
Also, I think she does have flaws and there have been some setbacks. She's not good at communicating her feelings and thoughts. She's too stubborn and proud. She takes unreasonable risks much of the time with a little too much recklessness driving them. It's just that she grows and adapts and survives so maybe people aren't noticing that she's imperfect.
"The Young Madam will find a way." I feel like that's this drama in a nutshell. The unwavering belief these…
In Zhao's defense, learning to read a logography can take a very long time and be extremely difficult. You need about a thousand characters to be able to read well and ... well, give it a try to learn just a few. I don't think they had pin yin back then or anything to make it easier to read, let alone write characters.
I'm with you though that it would improve her life and her mentality and even her self esteem in a more positive, grounded way.
I think she's a classic bully actually; the one who is bullied at home and then takes the knowledge out into the world to exact it on others. No excuse but it really does seem to work that way for many.
you can always drop the drama n watch something else instead of bitching lmfao 😂
Nobody here appreciates the 'she's not pretty enough' comments. It's just your opinion and if it only applies to the exterior of an actor, we don't really need to hear it.
I mean, it's important that we see both in order to maintain what we have now (the ability to see both and the smarts to appreciate what we have now).
