Title Against the Current Spoiler
I saw this on Rednote as well. I've been Stunned since yesterday and I haven't processed that info yet! I hate…
Well, it won't technically be a sad ending ... And this director is great so maybe it won't feel like one.

But I wonder if it will happen in the last episode. My favorite English language drama ended with the MC dying well before the last episode. Which was a shock I can still feel in my bones.

Anyway, we'll play it like real life. Enjoy the good times to the highest degree possible and always invest in lots of good quality tissues to mop up the mess with ice packs ready to reduce the swelling. :-)

Oh my. This is going to be difficult for us to watch, so I'm very glad to know it in advance. Everyday survival scars are hard to get over or you just learn to leave with them ... but the wounds from battle can kill you a lot faster. Traditionally different gender roles and different kinds of survival, I guess.

You're right though that the best Lin, who cared about them all and worked so hard for the family, doesn't get to enjoy more of their life after the storms pass.

Same. This is a bit devastating, really. But I'm glad to know about it in order to prepare and still be able to enjoy the whole ending. Spoilers are horrible sometimes, but this is where I truly appreciate them. It's worse to be blindsided.

How much earlier? At what age approximately? Are they both in their 80s or is he in his 50s or something? I read that Seven Tan commented on having to age up to 80 in this drama ...

some of us , at least, have been having trouble getting the individual episode pages to load for a while now.…
He started to redeem himself with the few things that he said to her and to others on their wedding day. But, of course, there's a long way to go after pulling this kind of stunt.

It was nice to see his brothers there supporting him and his friends especially the Marquis. They were happy for him even if nobody else was.

Everything else was vaguely funny or quite sad.

But each of the two leads said what they needed to and did what they needed to. Which was perfect ... so well scripted.

And I shed quite a lot of tears for them both; each for different reasons..

I totally agree though, that it was nice to see his smile. It wasn't real at all points in the day but it was entirely real when he was by himself in those last moments before sleep. And I found myself smiling too.

Anyway, he will make it up to her and that will be a pleasure to watch. So very good. Such a pleasure to watch this drama.

I was afraid to watch it but stayed up until the weee hours so I lost my fear through tiredness. LOL

Anyway, it was amazing. Such amazing television. So well crafted. So extremely excellent from the start through to now and I'm sure that it will continue to be this good. We're seeing something that's unusually exquisite.

So there was no way that I wasn't going to rate all these episodes. They've all been 9.0 9.5 and 10 in my book.

So, have you been able to find away to put your own ratings in? Whatever they are, I hope we all get a chance to say what we think for this drama, in whatever way we can I

t deserves all the attention that it is getting.

I remember your name from other drama comment sections ... Nice to see you here !

I was so impressed with todays episodes.. wanted go and rate but somehow the episode pages were not loading...!
some of us , at least, have been having trouble getting the individual episode pages to load for a while now. the only way I've been able to rate an episode has been to go to the website on my phone/firefox. The app and the website on my laptop won't load. I thought it was my vpn but now i'm not so sure.

I'm crying at Jinqi's mom wholeheartedly approving of her son getting slapped 😂
I think she should also be thankful for all this chaos because it hides the fact that she was matching her son with a traitor.

Title Against the Current Spoiler
What initially made this drama so interesting was the premise of the FL being a high-born lady who had been reduced…
I see your point. There's an irony even that she was able to escape slavery only because she wasn't a slave from birth like her parents had been. Her high born skills got her out. But that's not how she thinks and her thinking is also what has gotten her through. She very rarely thinks back. She has no self pity about what has happened to her. She only thinks to adapt and survive in the current moment. To Live like her birth mother asked her to.

It has seemed to me, like, n her mind, there hasn't really been a double identity. She became the Xu's daughter, accepted their fate and began to live a different life completely. Until this moment she just hasn't thought much about the irony or the fact that she can survive so well because she's Shen and not just Xu.

So, we've seen it all along and it's right there in the synopsis but our FL has survived by not looking back, not thinking of herself as her old self, and only looking forward. Meaning the contradiction was largely abandoned on purpose so that the main character could keep going and we could keep going with her. At least that''s been my main understanding of it. She couldn't afford to belabor the past so, at least while she was a slave, she accepted it and dealt with it head on.

I think it's a part of the survival theme. Accept and move forward without looking back and feeling too much self pity for whatever you might have lost. Just deal with reality and stay alive.

How he placed but we never saw him study, just singing songs with LX- this 😭😭😭😭Even LJQ adv him to…
LJQ suggested he attend the Academy that he had gone to ... then LX gave him the master's calling card so he was at least attending a good tutorial for a while. Maybe he can credit them for motivating him? Or maybe he's just well read and brilliant.

he could change in the future, for sure, but lan xiang's relationship with scholar han up to the night he bid…
I liked how she made sure that Scholar Han new that she though of him as a special forever friend. I wonder if he will value that as highly as he should given that he wanted more. But it would be nice if she could count on his honest friendship and support going forward. And her parents could still use his support as well as Mr. Lu's.

And I liked it too how they handled Manyi's end. She was heinous and horrible but she was also committed and brave and the only real rebel with integrity in her family.. Somehow the writer wrote it and the actor performed it so that you could hate her thoroughly and still kind of respect her too.
