there was xianxia magic involved. As in a godess helped the trained humans deal with demons. And I think there were also some court/politics. Over all I think there are some similarities.

If they were releasing the last immortal in order to increase their revenue/international presence then battle through the heavens s2 isn't a substitute.

just the fact that the leads are diferent from s1 kills it internationally. In china I have no idea if it will have to deal with the blacklash of changing the actors, but given that the leads are 2 newbies they can't seriously expect a huge sucess.

I think it seems to be something with similar themes to "under the power".
As in there are demons and the ml is a human trained to handle those demons. However the fl has some conection to the demons instead of being a godess.

And I wouldn't say a 2024 release is impossible. Given that "the last immortal" only took 8 months of post production things might be changing!

If cdrama people were good at advertising then 1 or 2 actors from alp would make a guest apearance here and in chasing the moon. That would make the people that care about these new dramas do take an interest in alp.

compared to other well known chinese actors I don't know if she has that much star power internationally. But she is tencent ambassor right? that could explain the effort to launch this as early as possible...

On the other hand xu kai is also their ambassor and sword and fairy was filmed several months before this and also has a well known cast.

But the main point is that either this drama isn't as cgi heavy as most xianxia dramas or things are changing in c dramaland and we can expect xianxia dramas to be released in less than a year after the end of filming.

If it was just a matter of increasing their international influence there were other xianxia dramas that were filmed earlier.
I think either this isn't as cgi heavy as people are expecting or as you said they used some new cgi techniques and that can revolutionize the c drama industry.

isn't this a super fast release? a little more than half a year after the filming ended is very fast for a xianxia drama. It must have a lot of similarities to "my journey to you" like being filmed in few locations and using vey little cgi.

I don't think wol is a s+ drama. little cgi, few big battles...
I can see is beeing a bit more expensive than most historical dramas but it should be on pair with wuxia dramas that have fights involving 10 or 20 people sometimes.

what are xu kai's s+ dramas?

given that he exploded in 2019 he wasn't that afected by the rumors. Basically they cost him a bit of work in 2020 where he only had 1 drama.

And I can understand why his fans didn't like bailu at the time. Basically all their dramas together were fl oriented. It makes sense for hardcore fans to think he wasn't given the credit they thought he deserved.

xu kai is one of the few actors that I realy think has several haters here and I have no idea why.

by the way it seems that midnight return/moonlight return is based on a novel called "lady wei's husband pampering daily life".
Basically the fl is a princess that gets cat demon's powers, the ml a noble that trained in a taoist sect and their famillies arrange their marriage.
