For a historical drama I agree it doesn't really need to be a big budget. But if you are well informed do you know why they choose to split the drama instead of doing some gymnastics to reduce 6 eps (either but increasing the time of each ep or cutting some scenes)? Because unless they are fairly sure that wol is going to be a success doesn't this just increase costs?

Even if you take the HE of the novel, the BE was really powerful. It made you feel much deeper than the ending of the drama did. I have no idea why they didn't have ttj make the demon land a livable place where they can cultivate. without that the peace between immortals and demons doesn't make sense and it woud take 1 min of the drama...
I also like the changes to ttj. It made him more relatable and makes the audience really root for him. And obviously agree with what you say about lss.

I think it is normal to blame the writers when there is problems with the story lol.
But as even you can admit the drama ttj needed more from lss. And that should have happened in the final arc. The fact that it didn't happen is probably the biggest flaw in the drama. And then the cutting and editing created a lot of plotholes. And then the final doesn't feel right.
And you add all these and the show isn't a masterpiece. It doesn't deserve to be close to the top rank I have ever seen on MDL (9,1).

LBFAD is also a much more solid story, This drama desperatly needed a redemption arc for lss where she showed regret to ttj for all the times she said she didn't love him, that he was bad, that she never wanted to see him again, etc... The highest rating I have ever seen in here is 9.1 and those shows as whole are more solid than tteotm. On the mdl scale this deserves around 8.5. And if you search there are plenty of great shows rated around 8.5.
SEL is an adaptation of a web novel by I eat tomatoes. He is a very famous author that writes cultivation stories that have hundreds of chapters. So it will be heavily adapted to fit 40 eps. Also, it probably has some anime adaptation and may have a game based on it (I doubt it).
However, the thing about iet novels is that the protagonist usualy starts weak in a wuxia environment and cultivates until either the top level or ascends into godhood and moves to another world. I don't remember what happens in SEL.
So if there isn't a good budget it makes sense to keep things more wuxia and have few special effects atached to their fights.
In regards to wol, given that the sum of the 2 parts of the drama are 46 eps it is kind of surprising that they decided to divide the drama into 2 parts instead of adding a few minutes to each ep and cut some scenes. Probably more 3 or 4 minutes per ep and a little cutting would solve the problem. However, by dividing the show it will increase the costs because they will need to launch some publicity for the second part of the show.

That is such a weird choice. I have no idea why they would invest more in tlp than wol even though both shows probably don't need that much of a budget to make a good drama. Most of the story is very good. The problem is that the last arc didn't deliver and therefore is weakens the story as a whole.
And because of the last arc and the BE this drama probably will never reach the status of love and redemption.
