Is there a lot and lot and lot of romance, because I want that. I will watch even without it for Bai Lu and Shu Kai, they took my heart in The Legends and haven't given it back yet. But I Still hope there's oodles of romance, like I should get tired and never want to watch them in romantic anything any time soon. Please let me know.
So, first things first. I have a completely different opinion about this drama. I started watching it, firstly, for my baby Lu Si and then because of the complementing comments. There are a lot -- like all of them. So I dived in pretty convinced. I am at episode 22. My thoughts so far.
Well, the story -- one girl and two boys, where apparently neither of the boys seems like a second lead.
THE GIRL comes from the future, which is new (they always travel from present to past) -- a place where all of nature except water has been perished (congratulations humankind has successfully dismantled nature!). Don’t know anything about our heroine yet save for she wants to trade her immortality for love -- I mean why not! who wants to live forever with just Netflix and no chill. Therefore she hops into (or lies inside) a pod like thingy and swishes her way to the past -- that is way before our present. She wakes up in the body of a dead girl (not a zombie or possessed kinda way) in … what is Joseon time for Chinese? Pardon my cluelessness. She sees a handsome guy in nobiliary clothes upon waking and thinks that’s her “Prince Charming”. Oh, and btw, a little flashback -- she was instructed by a machine voice (probably the one in which she time-travelled) that the first man she opens her eyes to is her Love of life. Why not! First see, first taken. Thenceforth her clingy-mode activates and the journey of chasing the so thought prince begins. Hurray! Nothing can stop her from getting PC (prince charming) to marry her. After all she traded off her unlimited lifetime for this very reason. She will not be dissuaded even when PC tries to keep her off his periphery with a sword pointing at her, suspects her of murder, starts softening to her due to mistaking her identity, or tries to marry her for disarming some longevity seed everybody thinks she popped. Nobody can shake her resolve. You go girl! Or don’t.
OUR OTHER MALE LEAD walked me to some dank spaces. Has anyone ever encountered any creepster in their life who went to the same college as you, has the same classes, pops beside you at every class and chances his hands on yours? No one! Alright. No problem. This boy gives me those chills. Lonely, apparently misunderstood charming lad was chanced upon (or not) by THE GIRL while enjoying a siesta lying on a swinging rope beautifully like a painting. And also his face is so beautiful that even girl confesses [to herself] of having an acute case of anthomania on seeing him looking almost like a flower petal. He knew her as in her meat suit (supernatural ref) from before. She misunderstood, from an earlier discussion with PC, that creepy guy is her brother. Though from there till the time she finds out the truth, she kept feeling (at least for some time) confused, awkward, and according to me, a little uncomfortable from his unbrotherly behaviour like non-stop hitting on her, kissing like sneak attack, etc. Our charmingly brooding hero stalks, ambush-kisses, blackmails (emotional and otherwise), manipulates, threats, chokes (just that one time) and then kidnaps (but I think probably to save her or something) her. He also keeps saving her from a lot of shenanigans. Actually it depends on his mood or his love (obsession sorta) and mood. So i am like trying to guess throughout whether he actually loves her or not. Or did he love the original girl? Or is he using them both! Sometimes he is so convincingly callous. Like a douche. But then I realise he actually loves her but that’s his way of showing which is pretty creepy and intolerable because he is borderline abusive. Or maybe completely abusive. Can’t make up my mind. So I quit thinking and also thinking about quitting the show. She eventually, slowly but certainly, realizes that Mr dark is her real Mr charming and she loves him. After everything! Like she’s imprinted or handprinted on by him or something. I’d have tried to find a way back to the future that is without climate change (since no climate to change) or batty boy’s mood change.
PRINCE CHARMING is relatively less annoying. I can’t believe I am saying this since this is a kind of character I like to rant about. I couldn’t continue watching Oh My Emperor and didn’t start Master Devil because how douche the mls were. But in this drama he seemed like the most sane and least annoying person. He discovers girl as dead-girl-coming-to-life (that’s what he thought) while investigating the mystery of the missing damned-seed-of-contention. He doesn't fall hard in love with her at first sight -- most practical thing to do given the circumstances. Instead he suspects her of something to do with the other dead body, which didn’t come to life, and the missing seed. Like she ate it or something since she is all alive and perky. His keeping away from her and dodging her advances (not sexual) was what any man from that conservative period will do. The one thing I didn’t like about him though is when he went on to marry her without letting her know the other intention behind it. That’s kind of a jerk move.
I am (most of the times, there are exceptions though but this is not it) not into bad boys, or taking-the-bad-shit-apart-and-putting-the-good-things-together-and-make-perfect-bf-robot-from-a-jerk-scrap-man plot. Maybe that’s why I am finding it hard to continue. The acting and the chemistry is very good btw. Especially my buttercup Lu Si. CAn’t get enough of her. I would’ve wanted to shake that pining-for-Xiao Bai face off of the fl if it weren’t my baby.
