I’ve always imagined what HC’s first appearance as the “ghost groom” would be like in live action ever since I read the words the novel. it is the most iconic scene of the franchise and I dare say set the whole tone for the series. that’s the one scene they need to nail perfectly, from CG to sound fx to camerawork lol (while the donghua iteration was nice, I didn’t like how it was interspersed with flashbacks)

XL is forever 17 and the book constantly describes him as young looking. HC is unclear but he should have died around 18 and his San Lang form is somewhere mid teens.

yeah I know what you mean. every fictional character have this iconic look from popular visual representation. it’s just the definition of canon is “the source material”, and the source material for this drama is the book. I don’t to expect casting or costume design to be based on the donghua or manhua as neither of those are source material of this project, even if they had the author’s input.
like I know Lan Wangji has this certain iconic look from the donghua and manhua with those long side bangs. but it’s not fair to expect the LA Lan Wangji to have that hair bc nowhere in the book does it even talks about his hair.

well, the only true canon is novel XL, and no where in the book does it describes XL as having delicate and pretty features and side bangs. the book does not describe his hair at all (while it, in contrast, does describe HC’s hair in great detail). that’s why the earliest fanart of XL actually has all of his hair pulled up in a bun
