my only guess for him being so cold is that he might be afraid of 1) falling in love with yirong and eventually losing her (again), 2) her not being like Furong so he would be disappointed, 3) this whole situation being unfair to yirong because of some fate thing
that texting scene is probably just cut-out scene of how they met/contacted each other for the first time in modern times but they couldnt put it chronologically into the story because it didnt fit there??

it's worth if you like the main couple. they have many cute/romantic scenes together. the plot doesnt get any better/more interesting if you dont like it atm and the choppy editing kinda ruins the storytelling
also, i heard the voting unlocking modern day episodes was stopped?? anone knows what's going on? did chinese viewers manage to reach the goal already?
