definitely good even without the romantic subtext. Costumes, camera, story all is really great (CGI is a little low budget-y but they dont use it as much later in the story). the bromance is just a little cherry on the top that is added to this already delicious cake :D
I'm at episode 39 and I have some questions about the whole Coffin Town arc bcs my brain (and heart) is like...…
(you can state even the obvious things as i might have missed them but that story is too painful for me to rewatch. lol) 1) so basically??? why xue yang had such love/hate boner for xiao xingchen? he gave his reasoning for hating the Chen clan but i dont really see the reason for hating xxc this much 2) did xiao xingchen die? like... what is "spiritual cognition" that was in that pouch they gave song lan? the rest of his soul or whatever so he can now wield xxc's sword? 3) no really.. what was xue yang's motif besides being crazy. this was too elaborate and angsty (and gay) for it to be based around the fact that xy was a madman 4) xue yang isnt a cultivator, right? how come he was so strong? 5) this was really sad, my dudes. sl and xxc deserved better.

i think it has a lot to do that the "vocal minority" are those people who disliked the drama and want to point out why (lets be honest, we all do that when we dislike something that is really popular, lol)
personally, i really enjoyed the drama and didnt find it particularly slow or boring. it had fantastic visuals, nice OST and the story was really interesting. I had some issues with it (eg. i didnt really enjoy the romantic connection between main leads) but i still liked the drama a lot. just try a few eps and you will see if this drama is "yout type" or not :)
