There are many wuxia/xianxia bl novel adaptation in the work, i cant wait for the next few years! I hope it will…
i am excited but also really scared for these projects. Everyone knows it is subtly BL and once it gets too popular (which it already is?) China will come up with other censorship rules :/. Lets hope for the best, though!
this drama was as good as the novel allows it. Overall execution (acting, chemistry, cinematography, cuteness) could be 9/10 but plot itself is inherently super weak and tropey which makes it at best 7/10.
Agreeeeee. I don’t mind darker themes but I cannot stand when things like rape get romanticized, and if memory…
@SimbiAni here are some that i personally find worth of recommending:
2 Moons 2 The Series - it is 2nd season/reboot but dont bother watching s1. The story is not outstanding but actors are doing quite good. S1 was imo really bad but i am enjoying 2M2 so much lmao. There are like 2 intimate scenes (as in "they start kissing and then it leads to sex")
Love By Chance - ok so... this one is like.... really good. EXCEPT that there is one side-couple scene in the last episode that is basically rape which like.... i just dont understand why the heck it had to be in the story especially when the story has another side-couple where one of them deals with rape PTSD. So yeah, if you skip Techno/Kla scene from last episode, you will have pretty good BL drama in you hands.
LoveSick The Series - this is one of the first (mainstream) BL dramas before the hype started. It looks like it was shot on potato. However, there is just something charming about it. Very simple and the story is quite circular so it could get kinda annoying. Main leads are kinda cheating on their girlfriends (as in: "i have a girlfriend but i really like this boy. help???") so some people might have issue with that. iirc it had interesting side story centered around girl character. The actors were young so it doesnt have any steamy scenes. Oh and the 1st episode is really bad so if you try it, try more than one ep, haha!
Seven Days: Monday to Thursday/Friday to Sunday - (japanese) basically two TV movies. Really cute, i preferred manga but like.. both media are good.

@SimbiAni honestly, the thing with thai BL dramas is that... the stories are not particularly good plot-wise or acting-wise and they are so full of self-indulgent story tropes it looks like it was written by a 14-year-old. To add to that, the characters get more and more intimate (bcs fangirls want to watch them cute boys kissing) so even a soft romance gets a kiss that is longer than any kiss in hetero dramas. BUT! There are quite some dramas that are good/cute. I'll write my recs in the following comment under spoiler together with some notes or warnings :)
they kept repeating that Chansung will see Manwol off so much that i actually started thinking/hoping that they will come up with some different (more happyend-ish) ending. i feel incredibly clowned. but dont get me wrong i actually love how it ended - any other ending would ridicule me even more. but still..... :'(
Also! A petition for drama with similar story that was Manwol's past!
omg i really want to try this drama but i dont want to risk liking it and having to wait for the s2. Netflix is really killing the real nature of kdramas...
it feels like the director didnt learn anything since the first episode of Lovesick. Yes, actors are not very good but the odd and shaky camera angles, abrupt and illogical scene cuts and changes and bad sound.. that's on director. This used to be barely acceptable when there were only few BL dramas but now with such a large competition they need to get better.
Besides that it is kinda cute. I loved the mentions of Noh and Phun. I doubt we will get any cameo but, boy, i wish we did. The story premise doesnt seem that bad and actors... well if the director actually tries to work on their skills they could do a thing or two.
amazing article! i always wanted to give Knowing Bros a try but starting a variety show is always the hardest and i end up watching only some scenes when my faves are guests. Thanks for giving us some tips for particular episodes to watch :)
honestly the thing that takes the reality out of kdramas the most for me is when a poor character wears different bag/coat/shoes in every second scene. Like... i dont have any money issues yet i've been wearing the same backpack and 2 different coats for 3 years straight lmao. (and also not finishing whatever they order in cafés - those cakes look quite pricey most of the time!)
I agree. There were way to many unaswered question around his mother. It was VERY RUSHED... Even when he said…
idk i feel like the way they dealt with her was very fitting - she left chansung and his father, she didnt want Chansung - he's even named after "being wanted by only his father" and his existence was a source of embarassment. for her The thing that kept her bound to the world was her need to not get discovered and not even a wish to see how is he doing. It was a bit rushed but exploring her backstory or trying to humanize her is a) departure from where is the storyline heading; b) counterproductive bcs we shouldnt feel anything towards her
i'm honestly shocked that 2 Moons 2 Furious has atm lower rating than s1. I guess too many people salty-voted this season out of principle... but it is so much better than s1, i'm happy i decided to check it out - i'm 4 eps in and it is for sure the superior version.
This seasons' Phana has so much love for Yo lmao. hes so cute.
Lets hope for the best, though!

I am so used to pirating dramas that i didnt even realize there might be an official channel ^^'

Also... i wish we could get a mini series/few special episodes of Man Wols' life before becoming the hotel owner. She is such interesting character
