Not enjoying this drama as much as I hoped. The beginning was good then the mains just start circling around each other for 10 episodes without much advancement to the plot. To die or not to die. Acting is mediocre, Angelababy is pretty but stiff, Wallace is about the same but his voice really annoys me for some reason. Sounds like he's trying hard to speak perfect mandarin.
Thank you, your review conveyed everything I felt for this drama. Except I was more honest to my emotions and gave it a 9 haha. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a silly grin on my face for every KO x Mei moments. They were hands down my fav pairing. The way it was cleverly hinted at but never stated out loud is sadly the current Chinese attitude toward queers.
I enjoyed this drama as a fellow gamer. Very good cosplaying, love their outfits and weapons in the game. Romance wise this was a refreshing change from dramas where the main leads would misunderstand each other. The mains here had absolute trust in each other because they met online in a world where there was no need to lie or fake themselves. The choice to meet and know each other in real life was made by both with eyes wide open.
I didn't read the synopsis at all before watching (not even the title) because this was on my youtube recommended. So first impression was this is a typical Chinese 70s-80s post war expansion story. Imagine my surprise on episode 3 when the dead general became a zombie... I was like WTF?!
The last 2 episodes was really terrible, the worst possible turn of events that somehow made the ending what it is. If not for what happened at the end, I might have given this drama a 8.5 but now 7.5 is the most I can score this.
He needs to play more roles like 13th prince in Scarlet Heart and Left General in Princess Jieyou! The care free devil may care sort of roles fits him the best imo. Serious scholarly types like in Singing All Along didn't fit his image at all. Mainly because he has a sexy smile, he needs to smile all the time.
I wanted to like this drama... but I just feel absolutely no chemistry between Ruby and Justin. They're each beautiful in their own right and their acting is good but there is just no spark between them.
Amazing cast of characters but terrible script for the story and low budget production. As a result this is a amazingly enacted drama that hits all my emotional buttons but sadly the ending left much to be desired. However I'm so glad Justin and Zhang Xin Yi married after this drama!
This drama makes me feel all kinds of angry, annoyed, and frustrated! I love the main pair Jieyou/WenGui they have amazing chemistry that it makes me want them to be together. However Jieyou marries WenGui's brother?! HOW CAN THIS BE?!
It has such a bad script, super terrible acting(except the two main leads), huge fail makeups, cheap plots...really,…
From your drama list I can see you mostly watch Korean dramas with very little foray into Japanese and Chinese dramas even less. Historical dramas can be a cultural shock especially if Chinese drama isn't your thing in the first place but please watch what you say in regards to other people's interest.
This drama had its ups and downs for me. Ups were the cast, acting, and to a lesser extent the story. The downs is the way the plot unfolds that mysteriously lead me to think the main character is in love with his childhood friend. Also the romantic relationship between the mains was on the back burner for the entire show until the last episode where they magically seem to love each other? Still solid drama if only to watch it as a thriller and for the story and also Wang Kai's kick-ass hotness.
The sister-bond between the girls in the palace was touching, but it was so brutal at the same time all those women just doing their best to back stab each other and kill each other. *rolls eyes* Honestly I lost sympathy for all the characters at the end and just felt like 'they had it coming'. Even the tragic romance between the main and her 'lover' just felt to me like she deserved it for jumping back to the emperor one months after her lover's death news.
The plot is moving at a snail's pace. Episodes are long and draggy (I'm talking about the latest 36 and 37) most of it is comprised of emotional scenes with the characters staring each other with a song in the background. Not what I was hoping to see. I was hoping for more Prince Nan An's bid for the throne and how he intends to court Wei Yang. He's quickly climbing on my list of favorite characters in this drama.
Really enjoying this drama so far. The side characters are so funny and precious. The chemistry between the main pair is there too, and the main girl is funny and sassy.
- Princess Jieyou
