I think that even if the are Birds, in SF case Phoenix, they are different types...I really think SF in Heaven…
yep! Xianxia stories tend to depict the heaven ruling heads as phoenixes or dragons. Bailin Dijun (HC) names hints that he's possibly a qilin (his character name has 麟lín while bǎi 柏 can mean cypress or cedar).
Hi sulkytofu, it's your distant cousin mabotofu lol.I felt the same, but then there are quite a lot of parts in…
This could be considered a tofu corner since it's its own thread lol. I've watched one of ZYX's older works before (My Princess) and I when watching her acting now in this drama, she has definitely improved. She's considered the seasoned actress here (I think, according to some folks). You hit the nail on the dialogue part. I couldn't put my finger on what it is about the side characters that make them seem illogical at times and "dumbing down". Turns out it's the redundant dialogue considering I find myself occasionally skipping here and there for eps 43-44 because the righteous sects were saying similar things to the stuff they have been saying lol. Watching LXY's bts, I can tell he wouldn't mind less memorization aha! I think a bit of angst is good just not too much nor all the time. This storyline is definitely heavier and I agree the more somber tone works better with the dark topics. Think I've read a review on the novel that by the end of the story, it showed the human viciousness/cruelty and it was too much for that reviewer. A lighter show wouldn't be able to execute the weight of vices. For me, I prefer this show because I see the scenes in action and the acting is great. I didn't really finish the novel in full as it is long lol.
Me too. She is really dumb. Not just her, everyone from Shao Yang are all dumb, LL, MY, Her father, Her Aunt,…
I think this was discussed before on some other forum... people were saying dramas tend to emphasize or increase the importance of the male lead because it gathers more viewers since most of the audience are females. Since this type of strategy worked out in the past, the sponsors and producers probably pushed with it in order to gain profit. But since the commenters don't work in the industry over there, we probably won't know what really goes behind the scenes for decision making on plot points ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am more in the middle ground this issue, but just wanted to say that some chinese netizens called out the writer for making the other characters not as great as SF and it's not fair to those netizens (some are novel readers) because this story is really XJ's journey. So you're not alone in sharing this viewpoint. I recognize that the writer Liu Fang is making this leaned toward making SF more favorable and I've seen it in countless dramas where they make female leads less capable than their novel counterpart (ex: Legend of Fuyao)
Not to be mean, but she is dumb. Even with her 6th senses, she is still a blank sheet a paper, since she's never…
HC has MAJOR projection issues. He clearly is in denial of this own feelings. He is emotionally unaware that he has some sort of attachment to XJ (or rather GoW or LHJD) while claiming it's for the three realms. Sure peace is great and all, but there are definitely other means of reaching that peace. Purposely instigating a divide between XJ and SF will not help his goal in the end.

I enjoy both of your discussions with sulkytofu (the tofu discussions lol) and I agree that it's understandable that they kept XJ in the dark a bit more to add more intrigue and whatnot. Originally they had filmed for more than 59 eps. Although I dislike Hao Chen a fair amount, he serves as a good gray character in the story. I do appreciate that the show fleshed him out and also Wu Tong.
Here's an article illustrating some issues. For me the novel has its own faults (pacing issues, some characters involvements are quite brief, etc.). The show does help improve upon the pacing (the cuts due to censorship helped in that way) and included more scenes of certain characters. Considering the overall picture, I understand that they indeed had to cut out some things. I would like it if they included one or more scenes after XJ gained her senses to show her capability, but it's not too much of an issue for me.
As for the other nine lifetimes, the novel went through it fairly quickly. Novel is kind of happier? Some things just passed by without too much angst.
Anyone knows when will XJ find out the truth about HC, Bai Lin Dui jun? After he died in the mortal realm? May…
if I guessed correctly, near the end of 45-53 episode batch or episode 54 or 55 for the truth of Bailin Dijun lol As for when he died, maybe somewhere in 45-53
I think that sometimes Depute Master steals the show.. There is a moment when the elders are talking and he is…
Technically he's older than the rest of those sect leaders because he has been here since the heavens and demons war lol The sect leaders should take notes from him on not caring about matters that don't concern them

Your tofu comment cracked me up lol. I agree with your assessment of the story due to the cut. The cut seems to have "dumbed down" of the characters' logic and kind of "dumbed down" XJ a bit as she's smarter than that and can pick up things (based on the brief bits I've read from the novel). I think some of the cuts were probably the previous past life stories and the heaven arc. The story is still fun so hopefully, the remaining episodes can keep the momentum.
This takes a big spoiler to explain.钧天策海 jun tian ce hai is actually 2 divine weapons created when white…
Just SF protecting XJ/GoW from someone else (HC or other heavenly immortals) attacking XJ before he gets to shield her even more. Unless that's not what you meant?
Just curious. Does anyone know why SF has a red mark on his forehead when he turned into a bird demon while the…
It signifies the lifting of the demon seal and release of their powers. Lize Palace disciples can do that too they just need to transform and unleash the seal. like what dashmount20 said, SF's father and deputy chief/YL can have it too but they seem to stay wingless in many scenes

Okay I think I found the part you're referring to 1:00 mark. That looks like Yuan Lang (deputy chief/master)'s robes.
As for the pot, might be related to LHJD. At the 1:00 mark that looks like SF was upholding a statue from falling
The sect leaders should take notes from him on not caring about matters that don't concern them
I remembered he was standing there facing SF and XJ
