Just finished the latest episodes and I gotta say while I enjoyed it, I'm a bit disappointed in LR.
Though I understand where she's coming from (her past relationship with SRQ in previous life) It shouldn't be that hard for her to see that he's not the one for her in this life. Like he's shown so many times, through conversation and actions, that they are not on the same path, but she always just stand there mesmerized instead of telling him to stop his foolishness. So see, while I blame SRQ for his audacity, I blame LR MORE cause she's the one making him feel special and giving him that audacity by not being clear. I AM TIRED of this push and pull. Sigh...
Another character that has been annoying me since they first appeared is Shangguan Ya. I thought it was something that would pass, but previous episodes have solidified that she is indeed ANNOYING. She's very tactless and thinks she's funny by always commenting and making snide remarks on the relationship between LR &PWX. What the hell give her the right to even make such comments? Again LR holds the blame for this. She allows anyone and everyone to have a say about her relationship with PWX without correcting them. So of course they will mock her husband.
I am really not liking her indecision and lack of affection towards PWX. It's getting frustrating. Judging by the previews of the next episodes, it looks like she's going to break his heart more.
Anways, I'm still rooting for her to come to her senses soon!!
The people who supported LR at the beginning are irritated by her actions now. The same people are criticizing her now. Hope she changes her behavior before its too late. Another 10 episodes of this will result in dip in ratings for the drama.
I see many repeating the 'Xiaoyao had no choice' that's why she chose TSJ.
As we can see, she has many options.
The trope of a 'dear cousin', who is so deeply in love with her, he's willing to give up his own personal happiness so she can remain safe in the kingdom he will build.
The trope of 'falling for the enemy', the one repeatedly 'forbidden' by her grandfather, father. Most times this type of 'advice' from elders would trigger a response to act contrary to their words but Xiaoyao is not that kind of female lead and she could control herself not to let her feelings for Xiangliu pass a certain boundary.
The trope TH used eventually for LYF is the trope where we see often in Cdrama or Kdramas, where the female lead runs into her love interest and saves his life, but neither will know each other's 'true identities' so it can keep the reason they will fall for each other 'pure' and not affected by material interests. Everything TH timed is to keep the yaojing relationship pure, up and including TSJ's confession, before she was revealed to be the Grand princess.
When Xiaoyao talked about marriage with her grandfather, the first person she mentioned indirectly was TSJ, with his engagement. The second person she mentioned was Xiangliu, with his enemy status. Her grandfather suggested to her a third option, which would become Fenglong - the perfect partner but a loveless union. Poor Cangxuan sitting by the side lines watching everything, constantly offering to be her eternal companion but did Xiaoyao ever include him as an 'option'?
Ye Shiqi has always been her first choice. To be blunt, Xiangliu was more like a backup. But probably better than Cangxuan who was a backup based on familial ties.
Every time Xiaoyao was happy with TSJ, she never seem to remember XL. But he was there for her during her breakup period, and he was a comfortable friend. I enjoyed their buddy vibes on the beach where Xiaoyao shot him that dirty look when he casually offered to kill ffyy and her child.
The only thing I see Xiaoyao having 'no choice' over is how she cannot forget her Ye Shiqi, her Tushan Jing. Because her feelings for him just cannot be controlled by cold reason. She needs no magic mirrors with TSJ, he has branded onto her soul and haunts her dreams with phantom sweet kisses.
I just hope with all the changes in S2, we can still get a good and reasonable development of the story. 4 more days left!
The people that are rating this so low are the ones that want her to end up with the toxic ML. Just because it's fiction doesn't mean that the FL should deal with mistreatment. The ML had issues he needed to deal with, instead of taking it out on her.
You'll enjoy the show if you watch it knowing she ends up with the kind 2nd ML.
