Soompi just wrote a great article about LBFAD! Especially love how the writer described XLHhttps://www.soompi.com/article/1544220wpp/classic-forbidden-romance-6-reasons-to-watch-c-drama-love-between-fairy-and-devilPure-hearted…
aww you were quicker, i just wanted to come here, to link to the soompi article review as well! its great, i am going to copy that review, and print it out :D
Your requested spoilers... Wang Jin Song will appear often. :) He is not a villain. His character came across…
thanks a million!
then i can go in, and watch the rest in peace! i would have watched anyway, but its good to be mentally prepared , if he were like, in the last ep, coming out with evil laughter, and turned out to be the mastermind of everything...some script writers are just unreliabel on that...
@ShimJood said: "She (XLH) talks and act like an immature 13yrs old. "
in terms of those ages of immortals and fairies and demons, she (or the soul that she is at the beginning and mostly throughout the story until the last 3 eps) IS a teenager. she is merely a couple of thousand years old (i believe under 10,000 years at least to her own belief)
compared to like most of the male immortals and DF or CH , they are much much older (ten thousands of years old) and if this wasnt a fantasy drama? well , in real life, such age difference (breaking down to real human biological ages) that gap would be more or less icky , tacky, and borderline pedophile.
BUT well, fantasy, and her story (and most of c dramas with childish female girls at the beginning) is that of a story of growing up, (and growing out of her teenage crush on CH, i mean without DF, such love COULD of course, turn into a mature love relationship, but otherwise, her first crush is more like an idol crush, coz everybody as she narrated, all fairy girls/women were kinda crushing on CH).
but as it turns out, she met the big badass villain (not of his own choice - you will learn later, his development story to the villain) and thereon her maturing journey with him starts.
2nd male lead character CH could have had his chance to turn their initially uneven relationship into more but missed it coz his sense of duty - and because of some misconceptions (coz they are also completely on different ladders of the heavenly order and hierarchy. but the same goes with the villain), but that chance passed, and life / drama is unforgiving in that way. plus he also wanted to protect her. his methods were just , coz of his station, different than the ones of DF.
but well, as the saying goes: the villain can sacrifice the world to rescue and have his girl. the hero mostly has to or is supposed to sacrifice the girl, to save the world. more or less, its a trope, but didnt went out of fashion.
the fascinating part of CLJ , is of course, that neither villains nor the supposed heroes aren't all black and white. they all (exceptions proving the rule) have valid motivations for the good and evil deeds that they all were doing.
most of the common tropes are being reversed. but in a way, that doesnt make the story boring.
i think, it also has to do with the author, if the script writer translated the original novel rightly, then the author still has faith in the good side of human, immortal and demon characters.
other stories just go on, and turn any and all characters into evil descent, coz thats how mostly humans are . it takes lots of faith, to have faith into humanity and human beings.
and also, in most dramas, the villains are just boringly "just" villain and evol. the good people / characters are just "good" without proper explanations or character development. or sometimes the evolution of some characters are simply ..urghh stupid. 90% of all eps, you are a good character, and BOOM suddenly last 3 eps or last 3 minutes, you turn inte the shady villain badass?? huch?
well, long rambling, short conclusion: XLH is innocent, is sweet, is immature, is everything probably that she is accused to be. in the beginning. and she does not lose those parts of her, that is innocent and sweet. badass female doesnt mean, you have to turn into a male arrogant, whatever kind version of heroine, that has superpowers and can kick the villains and heroes alike with well, physical power. (though , hahah i love black widow from the marvel universe) as she is none of these super powerful, mature perfect mary sue flawless heroines of other stories (which honestly , hey, i am going for all tropes, tropes notwithstanding, as long as its well executed, i dont mind them at all. its like watching fanfiction turned live action, so why not?)
but i expect in this age and century , that script writers and directors DO better, with those tropes. which, urgh, i am much more forgiving, coz Chinese KP communists idiots (bless the country of my chinese ancestors, sorry, i am a patriot, even if i grew up in Good Old Germany, country of the descendants of nazi killers) rules and regulations. you simply cannot write whatever you want, and film whatever you want.
what happens to those, who goes against the KP rules, i guess we all know. public erasure is probably much the most harmless consequence. i want to have brave human beings, but preferably in real life, not dead heroes, coz they end up in some working camp..
urgg sorry, last part was off topic. would not want to turn this board into political and so on, discussions.

random, irrelevant fact, but i had watched the first episode yesterday, and of course, i openly admit giving this show a try, coz of wang yibo.
but hey! but the show is like from my first impression, aiming for dark, gritty, realistic, as real police work, no matter where in the world, is sadly is. nothing, that aims for realism in any "first responder work" (firefighters, police, military, special forces and so on) actually can be really glamorous coz those jobs? dealing with human stupidity, human weaknesses, human vices and so on? come on , how can those be anything but gritty, unless you make it a comedy??
anyway, so, totally not my cup of tea, i usually want fun, and light-hearted escapism out of reality from my dramas no matter whether i watch US shows, or Chinese shows nowadays (LOL, btw, i am german born, 2nd generation vietnamese chinese middle aged woman , so guess that makes me like probably older than 90% of the rest of those international fans here, who frequent this forum - hence my weird stance on most things).
so even Yibo (he is so pretty, damn, if i had money, i would hire him to be my boy toy immediately )wouldn't be sufficient for holding me on this drama, BUT then, peng, Wang Jin Song appeared, and shallow person that i am , i was like WOW i know that actor , he was awesome in his role in Nirvana in Fire 1!!!111
i will download the rest, just to see him, lol. i hope he appears at least a little bit in every ep. (anyone can spoil me on that? does he turns out to be some mole or villain??)
very useful, thank you so much. i have been watching all three kinds (plus of course the modern ones) since childhood (back then in the 80/90s it was almost all from Hongkong TVB) but i never knew, how all three were named or called differently :)
Tried to get into this drama but could not get past first 10 episodes. It is the same tale of almost every Cdrama…
your impression of CLJ is interesting, and just shows, there is no way, we humans have an objective perception of well, anything. whether our perception of reality , or just dramas.
coz i am huge fan of CLJ, but did find love like a galaxy and immortal samsara deadly boring, i gave up both shows after like 5 eps. and that is my opininon, even though i actually do find both male actors in both dramas quite good (cheng yi and leo wu).
and in my opinion, all three stories vary vastly from each other.
but hey, thats freedom of choice, and freedom of speech, you are free to share your perception of said dramas here, and the other potential viewers (who might come to this forum, once they have seen it on netflix) can chose to either interact with you, or with the rest of us fans.
have a nice day. i am now going and praying for dylan wangs to appear and aired soon, forbidden love. hopefully, it will not be with a draggy story like IS or LLAG.
if it is, so what, i can always return to CLJ and rewatch for a 100th times ; LOL.
so just was informed Esther's new drama is also coming along!
our trio is rather complete in their line up, its all now just having to wait, while i pass my time... with Wang yibo and being a hero (and rewatching my fav eps from CLJ for like a hundreth time, and listen to the OST in the loop, as well as all that gorgeous Background instrumental music) :D
Im sorry I tried to watch this drama for Dylan but I couldn’t stand FL’s voice. No hate to her but I can’t…
honestly, its totally fine!
you will surely find something else to pass time and that you enjoy.
with me, i was like really wanting to give immortal samsara and love like a galaxy a try, but not even those two of my fav actors (Leo Wu, and Allen Ren) could save those dramas for me.
it just was not meant to be, for me and them.
its like the US song: Sometimes , love aint enough XD
I really want to like this drama, but I guess ML and FL are not my type. :( I'll watch the anime version.
thats the spirit! its the same with me the other way round! previously i thought, just when i like the actors, then it would be ok, if the story is just meeh..
turns out , pretty faces alone, does not cut it.
immortal samsara and love like a galaxy , I pretty much adore and worship both male leads... the female ones not my fav, but ok.
but both stories did lose any attraction after i came to know CLJ...
and pics are gorgeous!
then i can go in, and watch the rest in peace!
