In some ways, SK is still ancient Chosun. Power is misused more than it helps the people lead an abundant life.
Yeah, god, I have learned a great deal over the last five years about how god-awful both China and Korea historically have been treated by Japan. Invasions, slaughters of civilians, torture, rape, all the rest, over and over again. It's a wonder Korea and Japan are on good terms presently. That's a lot to forgive.
"bitter..." lol Yeah, I'm consumed with bitterness over this series. That's another word you should consult a dictionary about.
Also amusing you say I "can't stand hearing anyone else's" opinion, since that is the opposite of how I feel. I love reading other opinions. However, that doesn't mean I have to pretend to agree. That doesn't mean I shouldn't respond. I will continue to respond as often as I wish. It is true that I don't care what your opinion is of that.
If me being "all over" the comment section hurts your feelings so badly, please skip over them and if you can't control yourself to do that, just block me.
we don’t know if there will be cheating. Dae Young may be delayed in reacting because of shock or something.…
I have never been, nor will I ever be, in an open relationship. I have never kissed, blown or f**ked anyone outside a relationship I have been in. I don't tolerate my partner kissing, blowing, or f**king anyone outside our relationship. If I find out about it, the relationship is over. Thankfully, that has never happened.
What I don't do is leap frantically to judge and condemn and scream "CHEATING" at live-action, fictional characters who do any of the things I listed above. What daeyong is allowing to happen is a negative thing, it's dishonest, and it's also thrilling, causing me to have strong emotions/reactions to his behavior. The latter is a huge part of appreciating/watching drama. Why would I want to see only people who choose to behave just exactly like me? How boring would that be?
Aren't you the least bit curious as to WHY our confident, assertive daeyong turned to easily-manipulated jelly in the presence of his ex? There's a major opportunity for exposition, resolution, and gripping drama in that question. But so many people here miss all that because they're so busy shrieking "CHEATER" at the character.
You know, a lot of people who struggle to be monogamous do so out of pathologies related to earlier negative experiences. They may be insecure and desperate for all the positive reinforcement they can suck up because they have an extremely negative opinion of themselves. They may have been abandoned emotionally in childhood and are unwittingly searching for that missing connection in sexual relationships. It's all fascinating.
Cheater-screamers are missing all of that in their eagerness to let the rest of us know how morally superior they are.
Oh, man, you never fail to make me laugh out loud! "Maya the Midget." "Get a freaking hearing aid and shut up!"…
Agreed about the tag, except that there WAS developing romance in the first half, and then I guess the writers/director got scared of Boy Love or something.
You're making stuff up. It is MAYA and her story line that is annoying, boring, and a waste of time that should…
Can you not read?
"The character is so hostile, so unlikeable, so mean and awful to everyone that it's impossible to identify with her. Right up to the end of this last ep she was a total bitch to Taichi. No character growth or change whatsoever."
THIS is why I don't care. The writer made me not care by creating a horribly unlikeable, bitter, rude, unsympathetic character who happens to be deaf. I am far from alone in this opinion here.
It is patronizing in the extreme to excuse antisocial behavior because the perpetrator is disabled in some way.
You seem to be one of those who decide early on a show is GREAT, and then fall all over themselves trying to explain why, no matter how things go. I was thoroughly enjoying this until things stalled out midway and Maya continued to pull focus from the MC.
Just wait for the episode next week, the wait will be so worth it.
Why would you shake your head? And I've read lots of people here saying this is not following the Manga's pace. I have no idea what will happen next week and I don't want to know ahead of time.
But as always, the Japanese mother totally ignored what Kohei was going through in that scene and made stupid…
I know it's a cultural thing, and have said so repeatedly. And it's not a matter of right or wrong. It's a matter of physically and emotionally NEEDING to release strong emotions and instead, choosing to stuff them down, which causes physical and emotional harm.
I am not saying this as some anti-Asian thing. I love many things Asian, including their movies, music, and art. I do not love the way the culture forces people to squelch their very natural human need to release emotion. It is damaging to their very selves.
Look, there are lots of things Americans do that are unhealthy, but this isn't about one of those things, it's about the Japanese tradition of emotional constipation.
She knows good and well about his unrequited love for Taichi, she knows good and well that it is not requited and that this is why he was crying, not because of the onions. She watches him cry and does nothing. Kohei never saw her tears because he was looking down the whole time, TRYING TO HIDE HIS EMOTIONS FROM HER. Thus, he had no idea she was "sharing his tears." You're really stretching here.
Again, there are plenty of cultural pathologies in America, and even here, we have lots of people who squelch emotions that should be expressed. We kill each other with guns at a horrifying rate. We treat homeless people like dirt. But generally speaking, we hug each other when a hug needs to express itself.
That's the thing you're glossing over: In most cases, we see the characters in Japanese shows struggling mightily to stuff their feelings. You think they're enjoying themselves and that this is healthy, a good thing? Let me know if you do, and I'll provide some links proving otherwise.
ugh. Maya can suck it. :D I find her character a complete waste of time that should be going to the MC relationship,…
Well, except that Midget Maya is NOTHING like Kohei except for being deaf. In every way they seem like opposites to me. I agree she was intended to throw a wrench into the Taichi/Kohei works, but that didn't go anywhere either. As I've said, I found her to be one of the most unnecessary and irritating BL characters ever.
You know, when the Japanese greet each other, even after extended absences from family members, I have never seen an embrace. A grown child comes home after two or three years, the parents see them, are clearly delighted and emotional, but they don't even grab hands.
But they do always ask if the guest has "eaten anything" or "would like something to eat" or let me make you some seaweed soup." lol To a Westerner, that is just maddening. Often, I feel a physical sense of frustration in my arms while watching these emotional reunions where no one touches.
This is an actual, real thing too. I used to watch a couple of youtube couples who were Japanese/American. They played hilarious pranks on each other and such. At one point one couple went to Japan to have the American girl meet her fiance's parents. They hadn't seen their son in three years and arrived by surprise. The parents were happy and thrilled but...NO TOUCHING. And sure enough, the mother asked if they had eaten anything yet. lol

As I commented somewhere else, the only thing her story line taught me is that deaf girls can be hideous human beings too, and being deaf is not an excuse to act that way. Why doesn't she have a hearing aid? Was that ever addressed? Is she poor and can't afford one? I bet plenty of charities would buy one for her.
The writer made her so nasty that no one cares about her disability. We just want her gone.
I don't understand the sudden slander with the series here. I understand that anyone has their own opinions on…
You're making stuff up. It is MAYA and her story line that is annoying, boring, and a waste of time that should be focused on the MC. She was written to be a virulently unlikeable person, and the writer succeeded. I hate her.
