I just started it. I have not read the novel but it looks very interesting so far. The trailer was really good.

I didn't know about this drama or the novel at all until a few days ago. I watched the trailer, was super intrigued and now I have started the show...watched about half of epi one. Honestly it looks very promising. I just have a few queries. Those of you who watched all the aired epis and read the novel, is the adaptation good in your opinion? Does the drama convey things well? Since I have not read the novel I am worried it might be too cryptic and I won't understand much.

No, not yet. Just don't feel interested enough to pick up anything new.

Nothing. I did plan to check out several dramas, but just didn't feel interested to actually pick them up. I am now waiting for all of my anticipated dramas to air.

The drama doesn't follow the manga to the T and doesn't really specify Changge's age. It's very much possible that drama Changge is a bit older, maybe 16-17. Also, most historical drama FLs are said to be around 15 but they never cast actresses that age. Drama Changge is close friends with Wei Shuyu and they are said to be around the same age. Maybe he is a few years older but he doesn't look 16-17 either. So their ages in the drama are quite ambiguous.

One thing I find really funny though. When this drama aired and even now, some antis said that Reba looks contemporary and doesn't suit ancient costumes so they should have cast another actress as Changge. These people must be living under a rock because Reba had done several costume dramas before this and her career is made up of multiple successful costume dramas. Nobody ever said she didn't suit ancient costumes when she did Eternal love, Eternal love of dream, King's Woman, Flames daughter etc.

It's quite long and lasts for 23 epis. But it's very important to the story and I think you'll enjoy it. Actually the novel starts with the college parts but in the drama they changed it and that makes it interesting. It adds a layer of depth and intrigue to the story.

Ok that's big news. If that one airs successfully then we have real hope.

No it's not. The initial part of the story is set in their college years but there is an office setting in the later part. In fact, the story begins with the later part, when they are in their mid-twenties but goes into a flashback from epi 2.

It is unlikely to air in Jan because youku has four costume dramas lined up and among these Back from the Brink is likely to air first. According to latest melons, it is starting in Jan 22, right after Blood of Youth and the leads are recording hello saturday. Back from the Brink was also filmed first among the three including TTEOTM and LOA, so it makes sense that they are airing it first. Not sure when LWTSF was filmed though. But if they are going with the order in which they were filmed, than LOA will probably air next.
