why are they actually looking for the son - i rewatched ep1 and FYX mentions that Pei Dafu had amassed a fortune...enough to rebel against the Emperor. he also mentions that Pei Dafu killed himself in prison. hence, the only person who could know about where that money is, is Pei Dafu's adopted son. in ep1, FYX interrogates an official who collaborated with Pei Dafu. FYX shows him a list of names (probably a list of all of Pei Dafu's connections) and he has all the names crossed out except for the last two. unfortunately, i can't read the characters...so am wondering who those 2 remaining names are... i think with that amount of money, anyone can take it and rebel against the Emperor, plus, IIRC the imperial treasury lost a lot of money, so would have a hard time fighting off a rebellion. so, they want to find the money and the only other person they can get info or clues from is Pei Dafu's adopted son. FYX also mentions that Pei Dafu killed innocent people and i believe if convicted, his family would also face consequences, which would include his adopted son.
FYX did he find out about the identity of adopted son before or after the head of dcc testimony or he had suspicions beforehand - not sure. he mentions the adopted son for the first time after his visit from Danzhou (at least from what I could ascertain from my skimming the first 7 episodes), but he could have been aware before then. i thought i remember a scene where he talks about the head of the DCC and the subtitles even explains it as Danzhou Chamber of Commerce, but when i tried to find that scene again (to determine if it happened before or after FYX left for Danzhou) i could not find it again 😫 if i do, then i'll let you know. but, FYX notices YCA's interest in the Pei Dafu's case and apparently took the the case files to read it and one of FYX's subordinates reported that YCA seemed to have interest in Pei Dafu's adopted son. That's when FYX has him followed and realizes that YCA and ZHY's mom have additional evidence that FYX wasn't aware of.
why did he (YCA) end up getting suspended - i think YCA was suspended because he didn't do a thorough job to find the adopted son. he didn't think about the possibility of the previous owner of the house matching the description of Pei Dafu's adopted son. i think he was charged with being incompetent in his investigation of the case.
what was his (YCA) motive to begin with - i think his main motive is that he still cares for Xi Wen and wants to help her get revenge. i think he would rather Xi Wen divorce the dad and then live a peaceful life w/ him. however, Xi Wen really wants to punish the dad because she thinks he caused her family's ruin/deaths, he made her a cripple, he banished ZHY, and likely caused the death of his own father. so, he supported her planning and helped her get evidence for her revenge.

he could have used that excuse that he bought the house from another man earlier, when he was first accused...but, he waited until his public execution to say it out loud in front of everyone. you can say he did that to stall for time, but if he brought it up sooner (behind closed doors, they would have done the investigation by law). i think he did it during the execution for 2 reasons: 1) he wanted to shame the mom and YCA by poking a hole in her gathered evidence and to also get YCA expelled and 2) he wanted to be publicly absolved of being labelled as Pei Dafu's adopted son - this way, they can't use this against him in the future because case is now closed. FYX and ZHY would need another way to bring him to justice or need a lot more conclusive evidence next time around.
the dad also used ZHY's feelings for her mom to his advantage because he knew she would be capable of finding WYZ, especially if he thought ZHY and FYX were in cahoots.

the last owner of the house, why do people now believe he could have been Pei Dafu adopted son - they believed this because Pei Dafu's adopted son is in his 40s, from Yinan, and is castrated. it was mentioned previously that the members of the Pei faction were castrated and Pei Dafu was a eunuch who stole money from the imperial treasury. the man who sold the house to the dad was castrated, but her dad is not, hence it is more believable that the dead, castrated man, in his 40s, also from Yinan, is Pei Dafu's adopted son, even though he really isn't.
And FYX how did he instigate the mother to go ahead with her plan to bring down her husband - the mother had a plan to bring down the father, but was waiting for more solid evidence. FYX provided that evidence because he felt pressure from the Emperor to solve the case within 30 days and time was running out. FYX went to Danzhou to try and find where Pei Dafu's adopted son may have hid the stolen money. During his visit he talked to the head of the DCC (in a previous episode, he mentioned that Danzhou is a port city where it's easy to ship out stolen money to other places; i'm making a leap here and hope someone who can speak the language can help clarify: i think DCC means Danzhou or Domestic Customs & Control or some entity that oversees the shipping and trade at Danzhou port) and got his testimony against Pei Dafu's adopted son. But this evidence/testimony was not enough, so FYX held back and went to look for more evidence, which he thought ZHY's mother had (which is why we wanted XHY to find out what the evidence was - i'm guessing he didn't know or had some ideas about what it might be). But because FYX's time to close the case was running out, he "convinced" the head of the DCC to go to the capital and seek out YCA, who then told XHY's mom that they had enough solid evidence against the dad, which lured her into making the move to accuse the dad of being Pei Dafu's adopted son (so the hidden tunnel leading to Pei Dafu's manor + testimony from the head of the DCC). That's why FYX could predict something was going to happen and sent his family away. That's why XHY accused FYX of manipulating everything (burying the last owner of the house, giving more evidence to the mom + YCA so they will have confidence to make their strike against the dad). FYX had no qualms about doing this so long as the correct person (in his mind) was brought to justice and it was the mother's choice and plan anyways to also die in doing so, but XHY disagreed because it was at the cost of losing her mother. It was also mentioned that the dad confessed to being Pei Dafu's adopted son (per FYX), but not sure if that was made under duress or to buy time for XHY to find the last owner of the house. So this part above i got from watching EP13 timestamp 27:25 to 32:25.
Does the mother know he could be the adopted son and knows he actually is - i think the mother really thought the dad was the adopted son. she at least began to suspect when she saw the hidden tunnel leading to Pei Dafu's manor. the extra piece of evidence from the head of the DCC confirmed it in her mind. but even if he wasn't, in a future episode, the mother reveals why the dad deserves to die, due to some inexplicable coincidences that happened as well as her own personal story of how she became a cripple. so in her mind, whether the dad was or wasn't, she just wanted revenge and this was one way to get it.

well, she's never really met her sister and the family considers her a stranger after she was sent away to grow up with another family...and they took her out of the ancestral records as being a zhuang. so, to me she's like a stranger who happens to be related to these people who don't want to be related to her and have tried so many means to make sure she stays out of their lives (except her real mom, that is). hence, i'm totally shipping them...totally...unabashedly...
