well, ZHY is an unknown person, meaning she didn't grow up with the family and is really considered a stranger. she was even removed from the ancestral records as being a Zhuang. she never met her half-sister and she only met FYX after the half-sister she never met, died. so, the niece is getting an unknown mother... the description of "aunt" is just in name/words only, from my perspective. but, understand how that might not sit well with others. 😊

I think the mom and the Noble Consort planned this and ZHY did not know about it. I think they planned it so that ZYS will get a heavier punishment! At least I hope so!

This is my understanding, but note that I’m reading the subtitles, so my interpretation may be different from those who actually know and understand the language.

FYX knew ZHY killed her foster parents. He uses this to get info about her mother and YCA’s plotting against her dad (because the dad is so slippery and clever). FYX was also targeting ZHY’s dad, but didn’t have solid evidence. He also knew that WYZ (the guy her dad bought the house from) was not Pei Dafu’s adopted son, but, he happened to be castrated, which would point to him as Pei Dafu’s adopted son (cleverly orchestrated by ZHY’s father), which is why FYX buried him (well, there were two reasons as i understand: 1) the guy was an imperial relative who FYX killed during torture and FYX didn’t want to be implicated - but i think he just said this to ZHY to see if she would protect him or not, which she did 😍 - i think he has a good relationship with the Emperor and all of this is part of FYX’s master plan; 2) if people found the guy, he would easily fit the description of Pei Dafu’s adopted son, which FYX knows is not true and would therefore close the case, which is what happened because of the dad using ZHY to find the buried guy; note that FYX allows ZHY to do this despite being implicated and despite knowing Pei Dafu’s adopted son is still not caught). Because FYX can’t arrest ZHY’s father, he uses ZHY mother’s revenge scheme to capture the dad which angers ZHY because she wants to save him and doesn’t yet realize how bad of a person/snake he really is.

ZHY realizes FYX knew all along about her mother’s plan, but didn’t know all the details or maybe he was trying to determine if ZHY’s mom had actual evidence that shows her dad was Pei Dafu’s adopted son or he was trying to see if the mom and YCA knew something about where her dad hid the money? Regardless, ZHY realized that FYX was not being forthright with her and despite how many times he has helped her, he is a man that is not to be trusted. There was one episode where she leaves his carriage and she asks him if she can fully trust him now (i think this was after she visited CJ after FYX had saved her) and he doesn’t respond. He just closes the carriage door. So, the man knows many things…I bet including who killed his wife, but doesn’t yet have the evidence to hold the person to account.

ZHY’s mother hates the father for many reasons, they explain it in a future episode which you haven’t seen yet, so I won’t spoil it for you. But if you want to know or want to compare notes, let me know and i’ll post separately.

Yes, I first saw WXY on O&O and loved his acting from the get-go. Was Scent of time an A production or B production? I really liked it and was happy to see it was on Max (HBO). I also like LYR from LLTG and SoT. I hope to see more of them as leads in upcoming dramas!

Yes, I thought The Double was beautifully done and is one of my top favorites. I’ve seen WJY in The Story of Yanxi Palace and loved her there. I also have seen WXY dramas before The Double, but didn’t realize he was so well known, but maybe The Story of Kunning Palace and Amidst a Snowstorm of Love brought him more fame.

I’m on episode 30 and though ZYJ has some good qualities, it seems like HQ has better qualities. Why is YZ so in love with ZYJ compared to HQ who has been at her side for longer? Is there some backstory between YZ and ZYJ that is shown later? I can’t seem to understand her draw towards ZYJ and not to HQ. Why do I find myself on team HQ?
