The public never finds out, but the people who do know or find out are: her real dad (magistrate of her hometown), her brother, her hometown, SYR’s mother/sister (since of course they can visually identify her). The others are: Princess WN, Emperor, Jiang Li’s real dad, Jiang Li’s step mom, Duke Su/Wen Ji/Lu Ji. Different people find out throughout the course of the drama at different times and unfortunately I can’t remember which episodes.

There are definitely different ways to interpret and assess the drama. For myself, though I thought SYR and WN were characters with backstories that help us understand their motivations for their actions, I couldn’t get myself to like them (the actors were great though!). After years of being married and XFF sacrificing herself (she opted to marry SYR to support his pursuits instead of pursuing her own education, she sold her treasured guqin from her father to help with his goal of becoming top scholar, she sold her mom’s treasured pendant to pay for medicine when he was sick, and it was mentioned a couple of times that she married SYR who is beneath her status - and she had to put up with an awful mother-in-law, if you ask me lol). All SYR had to do was tell her the truth about the princess and they could, together come up with a plan (he could divorce her, she could leave, but still keep her dignity, etc.). Instead, his mom frames her, making everyone believe she had committed adultery and that she is an immoral person. Then SYR tries to kill her so she doesn’t have to suffer the indignity of a lie WN and his mom created. And…though he feels bad about it, he refuses to tell the truth publicly about what he, WN, and his mother have done to her because he will lose his status and fears for his mom and sister’s reputations.
So, if I was in XFF’s shoes…I couldn’t not forgive him and go back to being married to him. One, how could I ever trust him again after he tried to kill me. Two, he tried to kill me after all I’ve done for him. Three, he refuses to admit to the world he tried to kill me and that his mom ruined my reputation in the process, so that as a “dead” person I can’t even refute the charge of committing adultery.
That said, they did a great job of making SYR and WN pitiable, so I can see why you would feel the way you do. I love this drama because there are so many different takes and perspectives a viewer can have and it’s all ok. At least in my view it’s all ok. 😊
this is a drama i wish i could have loved.. Yang Zi is one of my favorites but this just wasn't doing it for me..🥲…
this drama, unfortunately turned me off of Yang Zi. luckily, i liked Flourished Peony and liked her there a lot. now i'm open to seeing more of her dramas. 😅
Dropping at ep 17. Just not feeling the FL at all and the other characters aren't much better, everyone annoys…
i dropped it at 40, i think...you aren't missing much. i only stayed on because 2ML acting is wonderful and carried me as far as it could go. 💯agree with you that i could not stand the FL. so ditzy and clueless. when i started watching a long time ago, the rating was at 8.7 and people kept saying it would get better, but it didn't. i think starting ep15 i fast forwarded and only watched the scenes with 2ML, then eventually dropped it...

Run Yu was the only reason why i kept watching the show, but ultimately had to drop it because like he said, "in the end, all that was left is a mess." that said, i will look for this scene you described above because i think LYX played Run Yu's character so well that it's worth watching this scene that i missed.
