tbh i already knew what i was getting into with the 40 episode count so i'm not surprised but still disappointed.
it's unfortunate as i really tried to give it a fair shot, even defending it towards the beginning as i thought they were just flawed humans like the rest of us and believed in character development. it got to an unbearable and repetitive point that i became exhausted. it wasn't worth the energy.
above all, everything just felt superficial. the romance and the lack of chemistry. it was hard to truly root for any of them. but also the conversations and reflections around life and aging, it didn't hit as it should have. i understand the sentiments but frankly overall, the writing was not great. what i do appreciate was the friendship but it's a drop of positive in a sea of negative. makes me sad for all the actors because they deserved better than this.
i know everything will work out because ✨happy ending✨ but at this point it just seems forced because the reality is sometimes it doesn't and it's hard for me to say this as a romance enthusiast but i just don't see any of them having a long future ahead as a couple
not by any means a masterpiece but ended up being somewhat of a guilty pleasure watch.
i very much enjoyed and supported fl's revenge arc. i admired her calm and rational demeanour, how smart and calculating she was when dealing with her foes. the romance was nicely paced and so was their chemistry. the only complaint was the weird direction of the brother's feelings + villains and how over-the-top they were, mainly the prince. i do appreciate that they made xue er's character more complex though as i could sympathise with her. her fate was tragic but i guess in the end, sometimes your own worst enemy is yourself. it's easy to feel resentful after everything she's been through but the fact she was still able to have tolerance and kindness is amazing especially towards her sisters. it shows that sisterhood is a bond that lasts a lifetime.
i wonder if this drama was meant to be longer than 24 episodes because the ending definitely felt weird and vague with the fortune teller. it doesn't make sense to have a season 2 anyway because everything was wrapped up but i guess we'll never know. i doubt we'll ever get an answer.
