so ZY is back to being rumored for March broadcast date. Overdo passed censorship so is waiting for schedule. GL is shooting for 120 months so from Jan to Apr and then he supposedly has another costume drama lined up after this. Such a busy year *___*
I'm so glad they're using the same hairstylist as Zhu Yu's. I've noticed she is really good at making realistic wigs. idk if you guys have watched TPR but his wig in that drama is hilariously fake like it looks like a helmet. ZY & GL's wigs are so natural looking
I don't know if you have access to the mainland version of iqiyi & tencent but their rumored dramas are basically high up on the "coming next" page. for example, IQIYI is airing Yang Zi's drama in January and I think tencent is airing Zhao Liying's.
this drama's strengths is also its weakness. the single complaint I see the most in this comment section is that "there's no plot. it's too slow." the people who like slow burn, slice of life dramas about normal people love this drama. the ones who like makjang dramas with conflicts every episode won't.
imo the slow, monotonous nature of the drama really matches the main character and his occupation: Chinese medicine. The whole drama is very healing. At the core, it's about male lead healing female lead from her past relationship traumas, as well as female lead healing male lead from his family traumas. It's slow burn like how you'd wait for herbal tea to steep.
Why is she so hung up on this second ML???? Did I miss something?? Please XG just please slap him.
~love at first sight~
but ngl that part was very poorly filmed like the actor isn't really that attractive and the scene had too much lense flair that you couldn't even see his face properly lol
I'm watching First Frost right now and it's reignited my love for BJT! I actually started liking him after New Life Begins (seriously, watch this if you haven't!) but then his later projects kind of wasn't my type. I wish he did more romance dramas but I guess he's at that age where he has to kind of transition to more serious roles
Baijingting's non romance dramas are very poorly received outside china ,I don't know if they do better on china…
yeah I think First Frost is the first time international audiences noticed him, but he's been popular in China for a while. He doesn't really act in historical dramas much and that's the genre that's most popular with ifans
I'm on episode 3 right now and I kind of get the complaints about the sexual assault sub plot.. happens twice in the first 2 episodes. I'm not really sure what the purpose is but maybe it'll be explained later on.
I think Chongqing is a cool location to shoot the drama because of all the hills and lights. it's just cool to see a cdrama shot in a place that's not Shanghai lol
Someone on douban supposedly watched the drama (they work in the industry) and left a small summary of things…
pros: - visually very nice. the director utilizes cold/warm palettes well. (aside: I think if you've watched Blossom or any of his short dramas, you'll be familiar with this director's visual style) - the first 1/3 of the drama is better than the latter 2/3. The op thinks the main CP is a lot more ship-able at the beginning too. - there are a lot of highlights for male characters in the drama. the op thinks this drama will be a gateway to the industry for a lot of the male actors. - the op thinks TXW's acting here is much better than in ZYG (her drama with XuKai)
cons: - as mentioned above, the op thinks the first 1/3 of the drama is better and that's largely because the latter parts of the drama has more battle scenes and op thinks the battle scenes weren't filmed that good but this is just this person's opinion. - there are a lot of sub-pairings but due to the editing, their storylines are a bit disjointed.
Overall, it sounds like the op thinks this drama starts out strongly and then kind of ends weakly.

but ngl this one is kind of outdated lol it's from 2022.
count down to first day of filming D-6
