you can start fresh but it will be good to watch ancient love poetry as well (besides it being a good show and beautiful cgi with the most hearwrenching ost) just to know the backstory of yuemi and tianqi during their days as a deity before divine realm falls (?). while i was watching there is some connection i made when fan yue was telling the story of deities to bai shuo which i pretty much believe referring to ancient god in ALP but i had no way to figure out who is who (as they change the name and i can only figure out tianqi since he is a demon). ofc these may all be explained in later ep but it's worth it to watch ALP just for visual feast, ost (i still think out of the trilogy ALP has the saddest ost) and ofc yuemi & tianqi story which was told really well and honestly really heartbreaking, i cried for the first time in ALP for them

so it does actually follow yuemi and tianqi novel? if i must be honest i have been turned off from watching this for the longest time bc someone here in the past told me their drama will not follow their novel, that the production will adopt the character and made up new story

but the clips i have seen looks good and i love the colouring so i thought i would just give it a chance and just read the novel if i want to know their real storyline

i actually do not recall any dolls in the novel but i have memory of fish (and i currently put the drama on hold, i watch first 2ep and watch the last 5ep bc i was curious and they changed lots of things, it wasnt bad per se but i was caught off guard)

he did not stalk her, their encounter during their school days are mosly coincidental, and he didnt really keep up with what she does when they went to college, it is like having crush in schools and you still remember fondly of them but you had no way of knowing where they are now and what they do. after the reunion, i wouldnt say it stalking, he is the mastermind behind their blind date but he didnt exactly follow her around. altho his motives for coming to the bank is indeed for her iirc

Shame, because many shows you seem to enjoy are shows I like too (except My Name—the ending was shitty; how can she walk around like that without anyone noticing? It doesn't make sense. And Midnight, which is the K-thriller movie I hate most, because every character is dumb, and I can't even feel any suspense, and if i must be honest i look down on everyone who like this movie but you look down on ppl who watch cdrama so we are even).
