idk i think you might get different feels from reading than watching since it is more detailed and sangyan is more funnier and attractive in the novel imo, i love LA sangyan but novel sangyan had me on chokehold, they are similar but at the same time different. plus the drama add extra stuffs so maybe it takes away the enjoyment for some, i definitely think the novel is much better, storywise and characterwise (for sangyan to me) but if you really cant stand peacock ml bc sangyan is cocky then ig you wouldnt like him in the novel either, tho i must say his arrogant, narcisstic, aloof and sarcastic self is what makes him so charming bc at the same time he is so green and never pressure FL, respecting her boundary, he definitely wouldnt invite anyone into their house without informing her first (that's the difference with LA)

novel wise, this is the most popular by the author so the answer is yes! in fact wifty is written early than these two so the writing is a bit amateur and you can see how much the author progress. but drama wifty is a bit different than the novel and so is this drama (i didnt complete HL (only read thr novel) so im not sure about the changes) so if you are unsure you may start by reading the novel first, this drama is pretty much a good adaptation but the novel still wins for me

there is no kind of bits you see in the drama for sangyan and jiaxu in first frost novel. duan jiaxu has very minimal roles in the novel his appearance is only 2 chapter iirc with very minimum mentions,

ok but have you read the novel? you could probably cure the disappointment by reading the novel

novel readers just dont think it's doing enough justice to the novel, which is quite true but i still think it is a good adaptation atp. i can see the team effort but this is the case where trying too hard could actually be negative, making some part feel forced imo

true the scene is funny but that is not what sangyan would do to yifan. I honestly wish they keep djx appearance minimal as he was in the novel lol, as for focusing on ml & fl well that was the same case in the novel too

try reading the novel, the drama do add many things to make it more sad or harder for fl. the novel is rightfully hyped imo, i do enjoy the show but the novel is way better for me and it's truly a shame there are some changes (i understand it being an adaptation and all) bc i wish the novel would get the same popularity internationally as it was in mainland

spoiler: she was almost sexually assaulted, had trauma and had to reside temporarily in policewoman house, she had no times to think about other ppl due to the experience. All she had in her mind was to get away from that, to go far away hence her abrupt decision to apply to yihe, sangyan didnt crossed her mind at all bc she was so deep in her traumatic experience. Only when sangyan came that she remembered the promise and what she had done, it was a bad move ig but she was totally in bad place i would never fault her for that

I wouldnt say totally fail but they definitely made him more on funnier side, there are times tho in HL that he is shown aloof imo, and imo if based on HL novel alone it is quite an accurate intepretation but once you read both novel you get new intepretation how sangyan character in HL novel actually act, without reading first frost you always laughing reading his antics and imagine him as this loud funny guy but once you read first frost you can imagine him doing all these in HL novel in more nonchalant way imo. instead of imagining him doing all that in a brat way you start gaining new perspective of him doing those in nonchalant sarcastic way haha, at least that's how i intepret it on my reread on both novel

i actually felt that for hidden love, i wish they would retain his aloof side more instead of making him a comedic relief character, i know many HL watcher like him like that, but sangyan biggest charm imo is definitely his aloof narcisstic side, like he is nonchalant but at the same time really caring and funny since his funny self is in his sarcastic style instead of the facial expression or body language. he is annoying but not the annoying that you hate, and he is the kind of annoying that one would affectionately love. honestly if you havent read first frost novel you really should, i do enjoy sangyan in hidden love but nothing could beat sangyan real self as described in first frost novel imo and maybe you could understand better why sangyan is so loved in china if you read the novel :)

hahaaha this is how i felt as first frost reader when i first saw sangyan in HL drama 😂 from the trailer it caught me off guard that he is shown as a loud guy that i immediately read HL novel to understand his character there and yes man is chaotic in HL but once you read FF it will give you new intepretation on how his chaoticness are actually delivered, i imagined he would still be chaotic but in his aloof style

bc they are extra. both are guest roles and idt you will be seeing them any soon until sangyan and yifan start dating. as someone who read first frost without knowing it was connected to hidden love at that time, i barely care about other people besides the leads, bc that is how little their appearance is, eventho i already know about hidden love (the novel and manhua) when i read it, but i never read the HL at that time, it was in my reading list but was never read by me at that time.

If you notice, zhong siqiao and edward are never giving the extra vibe bc they are important character to both leads in the drama. For FF even in the novel you could see it has always be centred around the leads and we get little screentime for other minor characters, so it make sense you feel like they are extra in the show

i just take this as them finally feeling what novel reader felt when we see sangyan in hidden love for the first time. i had the shock of my life when the cold annoying (affectionately) guy i know suddenly become this lively lmao

cant move on how narcisstic and shameless sangyan is and how yifan will always humble him 😭😭😭 they are truly each other perfect match bc her eccentric side always came out with him
