it is following the original timeline in the novel, they just changed the year. hidden love drama changed the age gap from the novel so the timeline changed as well

this is why you should read the novel. i had the same reaction when i first saw hidden love trailer bc what happen to aloof sangyan that i know? but i give it a try when the drama start airing but the change are just so different bc sangyan in his original element is nonchalant so i drop hidden love bc i love sangyan too much. as time goes by, i get used to sangyan in hidden love and start reading hidden love novel too. In 2023, i couldnt accept it at all but by late 2024 hidden love sangyan has grown on me

sangyan in his own novel is still very much fun and funny but in aloof way. this is the difference between him in his own novel and him in sangzhi's story. he is potrayed as comedic relief in the HL drama (which he in fact not), is sangyan funny? very much so but in nonchalant sarcastic way instead of in goofy way potrayed in HL drama. i personally think first frost drama doesnt really translate his funny self well, it is the same line but it is funny when you read but the feeling is different when you watch. but i love the potrayal regardless bc bai jingting yearning game is really good and he is closer to sangyan real self.

if you only read hidden love you would think he is funny in chaotic way but once you read first frost, you would get new understanding how all his lines and gestures in hidden love novel are supposed to be delivered, bc man IS nonchalant, he is not fake nonchalant. and people understanding of us are different depending on what side we shows to them, this is how it is with sangyan.

i know you must enjoy sangyan in hidden love a lot but trust me once you read sangyan in his own novel, you would find him more charming in his real element, he is the author most popular character for a reason, he is so attractive despite his aloofness, cockiness and arrogance bc at the same time he is also such a good man, who respect women

he can communicate, dont you see how he is when was young but he has been scarred and unsure if she is fine with him around. he is a proud guy but he wants to be around her hence he can only mask it with his lies. she clearly told him not to bother her anymore hence he is acting so aloof bc he is a proud person too and i dont think his heart is prepared to handle another rejection.

i understand but the inconsistencies in first frost drama of HL aspects is only the terms (which again i get about it holding significance for their later relationship) but not timeline wise. Im not sure when sangzhi decide to ignore duan jiaxu? was it after she finish her exam or only when start college?

regardless in the original timeline, she is not a college student yet (chapter 6 & chapter 24 of first frost) so during the phonecalls she is simply a high school student. my main point is simply to point out that first frost drama is following original timeline of the novel, the phone calls happen when sang zhi was in high school, those are novel events. What the drama change is the terms or how jiaxu speak to sangzhi when in the novel they didnt talk to each other on phones

i mentioned the age gap bc it means the timeline is automatically became different. Yes first frost change the part where she speak to duan jiaxu when in the novel she reject to speak to him but timeline wise it is correct. Her speaking to jiaxu is the inconsintencies but not the timeline bc she was not in college yet as per first frost novel. That is my main point

sangzhi wasnt supposed to be in college in the novel, she was preparing for college hence sangyan asking about her being stressed, that was the exact conversation in first frost novel (chapter 6, she was preparing for her final examination) What they changed is the fact that sangzhi reject to talk to duan jiaxu and made sangzhi take the phone and speak to duan jiaxu. Idk the exact timeline sangzhi ignoring DJX bc i dont follow both novel and drama closely so maybe FF messed that aspect but timeline wise, they are correct. Do you take consider that hidden love drama changed their age gap and first frost keep the original age gap?

hence i said read the novel, personally idt he lacks personality or characterization, and definitely far from insecure, even in his jelous moment in the drama, i dont see how that is being insecure but you are entitled to your opinion.
as for expressing emotions, he can and he used to. i definitely think you missed the part where yifan said she doesnt like him doing this, hence he is masking his cares with all his excuses bc he has been scarred but deeply cared by her hence he is afraid to openly express his emotions bc he doesnt want to be a nuinsance again (since that how he perceived her rejection) once they start dating he always openly express his emotions bc again he is never one to shy from it. his life outside of their cohabitation was never written in details since most of the moments happened in their shared apartment (and what he do doesnt matter to the plot) but they dont actually met everyday and months has passed since their cohabitaion

idk i think you might get different feels from reading than watching since it is more detailed and sangyan is more funnier and attractive in the novel imo, i love LA sangyan but novel sangyan had me on chokehold, they are similar but at the same time different. plus the drama add extra stuffs so maybe it takes away the enjoyment for some, i definitely think the novel is much better, storywise and characterwise (for sangyan to me) but if you really cant stand peacock ml bc sangyan is cocky then ig you wouldnt like him in the novel either, tho i must say his arrogant, narcisstic, aloof and sarcastic self is what makes him so charming bc at the same time he is so green and never pressure FL, respecting her boundary, he definitely wouldnt invite anyone into their house without informing her first (that's the difference with LA)

novel wise, this is the most popular by the author so the answer is yes! in fact wifty is written early than these two so the writing is a bit amateur and you can see how much the author progress. but drama wifty is a bit different than the novel and so is this drama (i didnt complete HL (only read thr novel) so im not sure about the changes) so if you are unsure you may start by reading the novel first, this drama is pretty much a good adaptation but the novel still wins for me

there is no kind of bits you see in the drama for sangyan and jiaxu in first frost novel. duan jiaxu has very minimal roles in the novel his appearance is only 2 chapter iirc with very minimum mentions,

ok but have you read the novel? you could probably cure the disappointment by reading the novel

novel readers just dont think it's doing enough justice to the novel, which is quite true but i still think it is a good adaptation atp. i can see the team effort but this is the case where trying too hard could actually be negative, making some part feel forced imo

true the scene is funny but that is not what sangyan would do to yifan. I honestly wish they keep djx appearance minimal as he was in the novel lol, as for focusing on ml & fl well that was the same case in the novel too

read the novel it's super good, the drama does make some changes and add additional stuff
