Lol i hate to say this but yes, One and only is better than Forever and Ever 🤣🤣 i actually dropped the sequel cuz it got so boring. They also snipped out the little detail about ML being a foreign country diplomat which made him look like a badass without even swinging the sword like he did in One and Only. 🤣 yeah i dropped the sequel that i was so looking forward to watching. Gosh. I didnt even bother to do a review for it. I just did a quick-rate instead. 🤷🏻♀️
Same here. It’s the main attraction for me. He is not that kind of hero who swoops in to save others, and he definitely doest always win his battles. Though he’s very good at fleeing them. 😍
Unfortunately, I haven't read the novel. My assessment and criticism are based on what I've seen. I respect your…
Just explaining how it made sense in the novel and why it doesnt in the adaptation. Cuz they botched the plot. Even the FL’s character doesnt make sense. How did she suddenly become a genius at strategy and political maneovre upon rebirth when she died right after xiao xun became emperor? She definitely didnt learn this from her past life. It doesnt make sense at all. While in the novel she lived as the empress of the kingdom for 20 years before xiao xun finally killed her, so the fact that she died around 40 would make those skill of hers acceptable.
I cant comment on the adaptation further cuz i only watched up to ep 7. You wrote a good review btw. made me not regret dropping the show 😆 i am sorry if you felt i was criticizing your review. I am not. Just sharing how different the series and novel is which may explain the things that you thought doesnt make sense in the show.
First season went by so fast, second season is like pulling teeth and Arisu got so preachy and philosophical.…
I agree. They yap to no end on s2 it’s like they purposely do it to add more minutes to the show. S1 is better, this is s2 is too bland while trying too hard to look profound.
I have only read the novel and never finished the show cuz they botched it real bad. In the novel, the rebel army came from the hostage prince’s father who is also the emperor’s brother. It was the father who had influence over the nobles enough to gather the army, so his hostage heir didnt need to do anything to get things working behind the scene. He also has a great minion that works as messenger between the heir and the father (the father is the Prince, and the hostage prince u mentioned is actually the prince’s heir) so it makes sense in the novel. Anyway, yeah i couldnt finish the series cuz they botched the FL so badly. It’s the downside of reading the novel first and expecting a great, loyal adaptation like they did with Blossom and Pursuit of Jade. 😢😞🙁
Your review piqued my curiosity of this show. I am always a sucker at love stories with couples that dont try too hard at falling in love by having those lame ass slow-mo staring contests and sexually suggestive skinships. Those kind of scenes never fail to put me off on the couple’s chemistry and make me cringe at the supposedly growing relationship. I think i am gonna try on this one - u totally got me at fiesty unconventional FL. I love strong (physical or emotional - both is a plus plus) FLs more than I love physically strong MLs.
I just watched Fabricated City and curious about The Manipulated. Am surprised to read your review. So this one toned down the friends into minor roles now? So no car upgrades, no cyberhackers, no villain with supercomputers, and no explosions?
Good lord youre spot on! I did feel rage as i forced myself through 13 episodes of this absolute garbage in hope to see some light somewhere around the tunnel. This only made me more undecided of The First Jasmine cuz Bai Lu is in there, despite liking Cheng Lei’s works so far. I really liked her work on Zhaoyao but I’ve dropped so many of her works after that.
You know the story is dang good when you can see current idol stars filling up the supporting roles back when they havent got their breakout roles yet. Meng Ziyi, Li Yunrui, Chen Duling, Lu Yuxiao, they were all really good in here. I get to see the Hottest Grandpa in action too. 😍
Can someone please enlighten me as to what a Sangui is? In reference to LingLong
Shangui is one of Prince Xiangyang’s 4 Great Lords. Shangui is in charge of looking for the mines. The Huos were strongarmed by Prince of Xiangyang into serving him because of their lost martial manuscripts that were in Prince Xiangyang’s hands. Only daughters of Huos could master the Huo’s ultimate skill that enable them to find gold mines. Linglong was supposed to take the mantle from her Great Aunt to become the next Shangui.
I'm finally watching this for the first time and am loving it so far, but FOR THE LIFE OF ME, can't understand…
Lol i also react the same when all the other characters keep saying oh this FL is such a beauty or she’s the best looking girl of all when the actress looks so plain that even her handmaiden is more beautiful than her. 🤣🤣🤣i was like, are we looking at the same person here? 🤣 not this show of course but the same situation.

Im pretty disappointed. Currently at ep15 and i still fail to see the spark between the mainleads. The plot pacing is also too slow it makes me get impatient to get to season 2. Honestly i hope the modern one would give a different vibe. I generally could care less about romance, but problem is the show seem to spend so much time trying to push the mainleads’ attraction for each other and leave out the plot’s pacing. When the plot is put on hold to make way for romance and yet the romance aint romancing, the show comes off boring and empty instead. If not for Forever and Ever (the modern setting of the novel, which is where the main plot actually is), i honestly wouldve dropped this show before i reach Ep10.
He’s raised to be a puppet emperor, his mom or anyone at all never taught him true leadership and governance,…
Something that he only get to enjoy for mere 1-3years cannot compare for the decade that the empress dowager spent to raise a weak and coward for an emperor. His will is weak, capability much weaker with zero foundation and self confidence, hence we get the puppet that can easily be used and discarded by the villains. Honestly i feel sorry for the emperor. He’s born by the wrong parents. He’s simply not leader/emperor material plus he’s only 19yo when he was k!lled by his own mom. Still so young.
The novel is set in modern era with their ancient life as FL’s flashbacks, and this season 1 goes at a rather slow pace that i keep hitting the ff button, so I kinda cant wait to get to season 2. But then again i noticed there are a few changes from the novel made in this adaptation, like the marriage swap, and the addition of Prince Fengyang, so I guess I’ll have to stay on so I wont get too lost in season 2 due to the changes. 🤷🏻♀️ currently at ep 9 i wish they add more action to this one so it wont get too boring.
