The main couple have a slow romance where each is more aware of what the other is hiding, feeling, but not fully. There is a sweet scene in ep. 16 where the FL holds a thin cloth before her eyes to imagine what ML feels, not being able to see faces. While the ML sees her from the distance and understands what she is trying to do.

Late but the couple makes it clear, open, that they like each other in ep. 13. The ML suggests a divorce in ep. 21. They get back together the next episode. The third wheel 2ML is pretty constant until ep. 19.

Nobody has made any comments about the SE/OE.

The ML passes away in ep. 23 in her arms at the beach. She believes that she is pregnant. But it was a ruse by the ML to give her time to recover her will to live, by the time she finds out that she isn't pregnant. He wants her to live a long life without him. She intends to travel to see the mountains and rivers for him and retrace their journey together. She ends up at the ML's mansion. She remembers her friends. The final scene has her saying in a snowfall, "Xiao Jingyang, we're going home."

Sometimes there seems to be interest on her part. But it is in very brief moments. Tags don't say romance. Am re-watching and will answer again.

I don't think that I have a tiktok app either, but it works for me.
I think that like The Prisoner of Beauty's Xiao Qiao, even as consort, Ning Jiyi ,there would be turmoil that would cause more trouble than not. Look at how many deaths occurred leading up to the end. Lots of angry people.. And we may remember the kin of slain supporters of the Crown Prince. Lots of potential instability. Then you have Pei, even as a legitimate Emperor, who has very blood stained hands. And his Ning Jiyi, is not only from the last dynasty, but has deceived the court and nation with her true gender. Alone, one part could be forgiven, but all together, maybe not. Just my thoughts on why the ending was what it was. Thank you.
