Yes Renmin is the billing actor which is awesome. I love her role in this drama and Jin Zhao character & story. But if fans want to talk about the romance, it’s not an issue. There are plenty of people praising her role here and i’m literally one of them.

Yes, it’s a female-centric-lead drama but Yan Yun is the ML & Ci Sha is also the lead actor. He rarely got any screen time from the past 17 episodes & even episode where he doesn’t even appear at all. I don’t understand why it bothers you that people like him a lot & want to talk about him a lot 😒 calling people boring for liking something you don’t is lame lol 😑
Jin Zhao not easily swayed by people & has lots of confidence in herself, never bends or makes herself feel small, not even in front of high court officials. Her tenaciousness & intelligence. I love her character!! The Gu family are not only ungrateful but also greedy annoying pigs. They definitely do not deserve Jin Zhao’s grace and a granddaughter/daughter like her.
The confession scene is so well done 😫😍 Although it was a simple moment, the dialogue exchanged between the two is so good. It’s not the usual “I like you do you like me too?” Yan Yun setting himself up as a potential suitor for her 😆 and Jin Zhao not giving into him so easily with a definite ‘yes’ answer which leads to all the courtship shenanigans. It is so fun to watch lol. I’m literally grinning ear to ear watching them tease each other. Yan Yun recognizing that Jin Zhao definitely feels the same romantic way about him at the spring outing 🤭 Jin Zhao getting jealous lol 🤣 the tension, the eye gaze, the closeness, their chemistry is so great 🥰 I really adore their romantic antics together lol. Ren Min & Ci Sha plays off each other very nicely.
Another note, It’s funny that Yan Yun is using his cunningness & strategy (that’s usually reserved for his court duties) to get out of a marriage matchup so he could be with Jin Zhao lol 🤣 it reminds me so much of of Gu Ting Ye from Story of Minglan trying to win Minglan’s family favor and her over by using his general expertise like it’s a battle front lmao

I keep seeing comments about him being a manipulator but he hasn’t manipulate Jin Zhao in doing something she was uncomfortable doing. Yes! so far he has been nothing but respectful in regards to Jin Zhao. He’s being careful with his actions-treading lightly. His gestures isn't grand or in a very romantic way but the romance between the two hasn’t even started yet lol Yan Yun just now realizes he likes her & Jin Zhao has yet to feel the same way.
Ye Xian was never a potential future partner -marriage prospect for Jin Zhao. It’s clearly a one-sided crush on his part. He is impulsive & reckless. He doesn’t think before he acts & how his behavior & actions can have a negative impact on Jin Zhao. He has yet to personally apologize for physically assaulting her with his own whip 😒 I can definitely see him being a better person & friend for Jin Zhao in the future but not a love interest-husband.
I’m seeing revisionist take on Yan Yun how he hasn’t done much for Jin Zhao when he clearly has. Not only has he saved her on several occasions (from drowning twice, being killed by mercenaries, being terribly interrogated) he also helped appeal her pathetic brother from facing serious legal consequences & saving the Gu family from falling grace with the court while helping to find her brother in the mountains. He always thinks about his actions so it doesn’t ruin Jin Zhao reputation as a person. He could easily over step his authority & overpower Jin Zhao but he doesn’t. He respects her. He hasn’t even enter the Gu manor yet, only meeting Jin Zhao outside in the streets to give her a gift or talk in cafe rooms for business inquiries unlike Ye Xian who just willy-nilly goes into Jin Zhao home & her room whenever he wants to lol. Yan Yun also brought iron firework & street performers back into the city, which made Jin Zhao really happy. Don’t forget, Yan Yun was the one who released Ye Xian from of his imperial duties with the young prince so Ye Xian could help Jin Zhao get out of a potential marriage matchup.

I disagree about Ren Min not having main character face. She suits this role so well-face wise. Her appearance, the makeup & styling, she is perfect for Ming dynasty-historical costume roles. She has the classic beauty standard that's reminiscent of those times (sharp eyes, round face, & outward button nose). There are actresses whose faces are too modern-2026, but Ren Min looks like she stepped out of a calligraphy painting from ancient China.
Started this drama a few days ago & I finally caught up! I’m enjoying it so much!! The costumes are so pretty. The interior designs of the manor settings is so detailed and the cinematography is pretty good. I also like the ost - music. The first 2 ep were a bit dry but after ep3 & onward is where the story picks up nicely. I also liked that the main leads faces are less filtered-and the visuals/settings are more grounded-not overly dramatized.
The chemistry between the two main leads is so good 😫😍 their relationship is definitely the highlight of the drama. I really like Ren Min in this role as Jin Zhao. She is absolutely beautiful. The make up, costume, accessories are so pretty on her. She plays a tenacious young adult so convincingly. She has such a baby face lol. Ci Sha is so handsome as Yan Yun. He acts with his eyes so well! So expressive. He doesn’t even need spoken dialogues. I thought he was in this mid thirties but he’s only 29?? 🤯 I love how mature, straightforward & level headed Yan Yun is. He really is the perfect match for Jin Zhao. He will do anything for her 😆 All of their scenes together is so lovely & heart swooning. From their first encounter, mutual respect for each other and their budding romance. I love the way Yan Yun looks at Jin Zhao. He is so in love 😫🥰 it’s so fun to see him lose his composure when he thinks about her lol.
I hope people give this drama a chance. It gets better as you watch. The cast is doing a nice job with their roles, especially the two leads. The two main characters are nicely written. Both capable & strong. They are so sweet together 🥺🫶
