It's explained in episode 7 I think? but if you haven't reached that yet then ill put the reason in a spoiler…
The reason Yu Tu wants to quit his job in aerospace is because of very worldly and realistic reasons. He studied finance in college because his parents did not approve of his aerospace dream. Because of this he took up finance but also studied aerospace which is why he has a double degree. He is currently working in the aerospace field but it doesn't pay him as much compared to if he took up the job offers for finance (and he's a genuis yknow so he had many offers but he rejected them to work in aerospace). Yu Tu didn't actually care much about the difference in salary until he found out that his parents went to Shanghai because his mother was diagnosed to have tumour. He had no idea until his aunt called him asking if it was benign. When he went to visit his parents, they were staying in a budget hotel with only crackers and instant noodles. Although it was found that his mother was indeed fine, Yu Tu began to wonder what if there was something really wrong with his mother? He wouldn't have had the financial capability to give her the best medical care. This is what pushed his decision to take a break from aerospace and consider getting a job in the finance field even if it means he would have to start from the bottom again :(
I have just watched the first 8 episodes and I just want to say IT"S SO GOOD!!!! I am a really big fan of the original novel by Gu Man and I remember that when I first read it, I had so many feelings about it. Gu Man also wrote the novel Love O2O was based on (another drama Yang Yang starred in ) and I didn't expect the big change in You Are My Glory- which is the fact that although Yu Tu was a genius and a top student, he too struggles with many problems that people in our society face today. It's embarrassing to say, but I am fond of those CEO novels where the guy pampers the girl but reading You Are My Glory really changed my perspective. I feel like it is a more realistic take on prodigies and how they are pressured to do well by the people around them. Jing Jing really stole my heart in the novel because of her pure love and adoration for Yu Tu who was once her high school classmate and crush. You Are My Glory is a really really good novel and I have been waiting for the drama adaptation since its announcement. Now, I know that dramas tend to kind of butcher novel storylines and add more drama to it, but so far in the first 8 episodes of the drama that aired last night, I was very very very surprised and satisfied with how it's going. Perhaps some people may find it boring, but as a huge fan of the novel, the feels are really there especially in those moments when Yu Tu struggles about his career choice and how Jing Jing silently accompanies him. I can't wait to watch more episodes and see their relationship develop. From the trailers and behind the scene videos, it seems that all of the side stories will be included in the drama so I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY excited for it! For those who are hesitating whether to watch it or not, I am here to tell you that it will be worth it! From a technical perspective, the cinematography, acting, and OSTs have been really good (especially the particularly aesthetic and romantic cinematography)! I'm looking forward to watching the development of our Jade Rabbit and Cotton's romance and the success of their careers :)

Gu Man Lao Shi also gave her permission for the blog to translate her work :)
OMG im a huge fan of the novel as well as yang yang and dilreba so i was crazy hyped over this drama since its announcement and all I can say is that its currently REALLY EXCEEDING MY EXPECTATIONS THE FEELS IN THE BOOK ARE RLLY CONVEYED IN THE DRAMA AHHHH
Hmmm although I hate what's happening, it's kinda more realistic and professional of the authors to do what they're doing (Zhou Chan negotiating with another company and Jiang YuChen not signing his book to Yan Yue)... And the fact that Chu Li doesn't take it personally makes me root for her even more. Like her fight with Zhou Chan wasn't even because he is not letting her be the editor of his next book (she understands why wholeheartedly) and I actually expected that it would cause a rift between them but I'm glad the drama did not take that route and decided to keep Chu Li being the passionate, professional editor she is. But quite frankly, Yan Yue should totally do more than give a pay cut to that Liang and Miao dudes because if I'm not mistaken, not only did they cause Zhou Chan to consider a new publisher, but I think they will also cause Jiang Yu Chen to back out as well :// But I am still looking forward to the next episodes because I want to see Chu Li step on their annoying faces when Zhou Chan, Jiang YuChen (and Suo Heng) achieve something they never imagined. They keep saying that Chu Li is acting like she's someone, but they don't realize that she really is something special right? She literally signed authors that they failed to sign and take care of....
I'm so sad I hate that stupid Liang and Miao!!! They make things so difficult for Chu Li all the time even though she always tries her best. People like them make me sick I hope they get retribution for everything they've done >:((
I get that some people find the female lead annoying, but I really like her because although she's a bit naive sometimes, she is very sincere and passionate about everything she does. She's also not the type who gets beaten down after a failure and even accepts it. So far, I'm enjoying this drama waaaaay more than I thought I would. I'm a fan of both Esther and Ryan and all I can say is that they're both so cute here hahaha Ryan's personality here is so funny because he's a lot more lively than his personality in Intense Love while Esther is as bubbly as ever, but not the type that's annoying. I'm really looking forward to the future episodes :D
Hello this is my first C-drama after taking a break for school buT I LOVE THIS DRAMA SO MUCH? imo although there are annoying characters, their actions mostly make sense and each character has enough story to make me understand why they're doing what they are. Even that Concubine Qiao girl. Although she is super annoying, I found that I felt bad for her sometimes because she obviously loves the xu liying (in her own way) and it's not for power/money... it just became an obsession when he didn't return her love. Even that other concubine with a kid is understandable as well. It's not like she wants a lot, she just wants a secure future for her child (like a good mother). My feelings for the harem and xu family are complicated as well because if we really think about it, this kind of thing was probably normal back then and they are all just trying to scheme to live their best lives??? but it is evil that some of them want to do it in the expense of innocent peoples' lives....
Xu Lingyi is also probably my favorite male lead ever? I really hesitated in watching this drama when I found out it had harem because I'm really not a fan of those. But I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed this drama + the leads have SO MUCH CHEMISTRY ITS KILLING ME PLS JUST KISS!!!!! I also really really really love his character. I find that his character is very complex and I think it's pretty realistic as well that he has a harem as it was very normal back then.
What really gets my heart is how he sees his concubines as responsibilities and not objects. I remember there was an episode where his aid told him that he was probably the only man who wasn't happy about getting a new concubine (concubine qiao) and his aid said something that it's because he sees a new concubine as a new responsibility.
His cold personality really has deep meaning behind it like what was explained about how his family was destroyed by the ou family. He became like that because he needed to be strong and he bore the weight of the entire Xu family on his shoulders. I guess he just keep stealing my heart in every episode especially with how soft he is for Shiyi TT_TT my boy even lies to her that he broke his window just to sleep with her and hurt his wrist just so she would feed him HAUIAKJS
One of my favorite lines from him is when concubine qiao asked him why he didn't accept her, he said: "Love is about mutual appreciation, respect, trust, and compromise. It cannot be forced, or obtained by humbling yourself." I think this really shows his righteousness and broad mindedness. I've never liked a male lead as much as I like xu lingyi.... I just love him okay? Will post another mini rant when the new episodes come out hehe I stayed up until 4am this morning to catch up on all the episodes TT_TT
pretty heartbroken with the recent episode and pretty disappointed with how shiyi handled everything... I hope she will redeem herself and give xu liying a big kiss U_U
