I drop because of reasons: it's sexist, it's lazy/uninspired writing, it's propaganda, it's taking itself too seriously and so on. When there's something unacceptable there's no reason to come back when I drop: if this is "at the limit" I continue watching, when it cross the line it can GFI.
"Since I am an impulsive dropper (dropping shows after the first episode is not a foreign concept to me)"
It's not impulsive, it's all about knowing what you want. Me, I can drop a show after one scene, no regret. Simple example: dog trope. When the writer is lazy as hell he'll make a bad character kill a dog. Using dog's death is amongst the oldest trope of storytelling. If there's that => drop.
A tv show, a movie, a book, a manga, a comic ... is basically a dialogue between the writer and the reader/spectator. When somebody come to talk to you and say "lol dick lol" as a start, you don't waste time hearing the rest right ? It's the same with a tv show, a movie ... So when the writer is insulting you with propaganda, sexist character, laziness and so son => ok, GFY then.
So nope, there can't be no second chance when something is broken. (°o°)
The main event is Gojira x Rodan x Mothra ... that was funny as hell ! XD
But, surprisingly, they managed to make the kaijus understandable only with boy gestures ! I found that moment incredibly well done. (°o°)
But seriously ..; Gojira and rodan bickering ... Mothra trying to talk each of them out of it and getting pissed off ... nah, this scene is in the top 10 best moment of Gojira movies. XD
Messed up, all over the place, made for everybody, worthless characters (Ishihara Satomi ... what a freaking waste of talent (u_u) ), writer who doesn't know where he's going, terrible pacing, awful filming and cutting ... Bonus point for the tiny bit of fanservice, otherwise it's a waste of time. (u_u)
Gonna rewatch Mothra Vs Godzilla to clean my eyes. :/
The point of the story so far is MIfune solving the various "mysteries" about customers in a somewhat Sherlockian…
"Fantasizing about different cultures is what every culture does and I don't see a problem with it. "
There is. There's even a name for it: a psychological disease/after effect which made japanese sick after visiting france. That was a thing some years ago, japanese tourists were in shock (talking about something like PTSD here) after visiting the country because it had absolutely nothing to do with the completely stupid vision fabricated by the media. Even chinese tourist were surprised when they were stolen.
You had to understand how toxic this kind of vision is, how misleading and dangerous it can be. And there's more political examples, especially when there's a fantasized "country of love" leading to mass raping ... but that's another hot topic.
Plus, and you were totally missing the point, here it's a fantasized vision of the worst part of france, the most racist, sexist, violent and irresponsible part. Making something good out of it it just as stupid as making a romance about pedophilia. You seeing how dumb and toxic this fantasized vision is now ?
Another big pile of insulting shit. Laziness in the writing, overdramatic cliche, flashback every minute: it's factually worthless and just an attempt to piss you off with the most excruciating plot/twist /character.
It is factually a waste of time, another overrated kdrama.
Ryu Hye Young deserved a better come back that. :(
This week was so full of sexism, trope, messed up narrative and incoherence ep 4 was almost a filler.
Srsly ... first week was so good ... this week was so ... how can you say that ep wasn't retarded ? How can you describe something so freaking stupidly incoherent ? (>_<) There was a drama. Except it was told as a joke. And everybody was happy about it. And then people are hearing every trope pulled out of the hat at the last minute because they were hiding in a corner drinking (so ridiculously cheap ... deserves a salary cut (u_u) ) or sleeping (sure, he didn't see the feet when he was running because they were totally not in front of him at the end of a lap ...).
God damn ! (>_<)
And that's just ONE thing. Because if I talk about the incredibly and factually sexist cliche the mother is (this character is a complete catastrophe) ... or about how an overpowered character can only win when she's saved by a male's pep talk (reminding how she's a weak crybaby) ...
In fact this show is like a manga. A shonen. But a shonen knows it's a shonen: there's code, there's build up, there's an overall tone ... you need fine tuning to put everything into shape for it to work. Here it's all messed up: when the writer needs something => FLASHBACK ! Damn ! That's factually the most lazy kind of narrative. That's what you use when you're untalented ! Or when you're asked to put something in the story by the editor ... shoehorning the asks of the wallet behind you, always a pleasure for everybody. (^_^)"
It's only the second week, 4 ep, still 12 eps to go and it's already all over the place with flashback everywhere to try to justify this and that. And the story is making itself up as it goes. But flashback'll explain all before the next new thing coming out of nowhere.
Haru, I didn't knew her before, I don't wanna see her ever again. Her acting skills is redefining abysmal. Maybe it was the writer's fault, maybe he made her in a complete and awfully insufferable boring character, but I'll never know: I boring-quit.
I'm always amazed how japanese (and korean too) are fantasizing France ...
"pas mal" is far from a compliment.
In fact it depends so much of the context it's a meaningless sentence all by itself.
Plus ... it's not bistro but bistroT.
And bistrot has nothing to do with restaurant, even less with "haute cuisine" (don't know if high cuisine has a meaning in english).
In fact bistrot don't exist anymore, it was a slang word for bar, and people who used that kind of word were "les habitués" (people who used to spend the whole day in there).
And in bistrot it was alcohol from early in the morning (white wine dry, a classic), smoking like crazy and talking about how the world is in bad shape (you know, THAT kind of talking ...).
And, most of all, it was mostly a place for racists, drinking because jobless or too old to work, returning home utterly drunk and often beating the shit out the wife or children. \o/
Oh, and I forgot: back in the day they would go home drunk BUT they had no problem driving, causing a truckload of accidents and death (so much that it was a national crisis and politicians had to make a huge plan to minimize the death by car accident as much as possible)
Yeah, sorry but as usual japanese don't know jack shit about france and are way too romantic about it.
Waaaaaaaaaay too much.
And BTW, bistrot is not something people are saying nowadays mostly because you can't smoke indoor anymore, you can't drive drunk anymore (not as much to be precise, you can drink AND drive ... that's another problem with french law and mentality), everything is too expensive to stay the day and so bar have nothing in common with bar has it was back then. There's still people doing it mind you, gambling (horse race, lottery ...), but the concept of bistrot is long dead gone.
And that's a freaking good thing. (<_<)
That aside .... HOLY COW ! Nishijima Hidetoshi is smiling ! (O_O) Mister "my face is tired" is actually a living being in this one ! (O_O) Last time I saw him smiling was in 2017 in Crisis ( https://kisskh.at/22164-crisis-kouan-kidou-sousatai-tokusou-han ) (quite good, with Oguri Shun). Truth is, his droopy face bored me so much I used to skip a show if he was in it. Didn't know he was here, a good surprise to see him breathing again.
Otherwise ... don't quite understand the concept of the show. Wasn't bad (far from it, liked the chocolate story) buuuuuuut ... yeah, so what ? I mean: he's cooking, he's almighty and see everything, everydoby else is here to see how amazing he is. That's hardly a compelling story ...
PS: BTW ... vin chaud ... yeah ... so it's something very common in France. But only/mostly in moutains (it's something hot you drink at the end of the day, near a fireplace after skiing all day). That was "interesting" to see a drink like that in a fantasized bistrot mistaken for a restaurant. (^_^)"
I do hope there isn't gonna be some Edith Piaf ...
Hedorah is a fantastic kaiju.
I drop because of reasons: it's sexist, it's lazy/uninspired writing, it's propaganda, it's taking itself too seriously and so on.

That's what you call a movie for the fans, and a perfect way to celebrate a 50th anniversary. (^_^)
Bonus point for the tiny bit of fanservice, otherwise it's a waste of time. (u_u)

Godzilla for the masses, otherwise you'll be bored.

As if the quality wasn't already dropping far enough. (-_-)"
