All that just so they could both die at the end. Glad I read a spoiler before watching it since there is no tragedy tag. I am sure the story is good, but I am just not up to investing my time and energy just to see the main characters die. Have been there too many times, not this time.

Everyone has their own opinions and preferences but when you say "maybe because you guys didn’t understand the storyline as much as I did" it sounds as if you’re saying you’re smarter than everyone else because you were the only one who understood the story and the sole reason for everyone else to dislike this drama is because they were not able to understand the story. I am sure that was not what you meant, but it did come off wrong. Sorry if I am overreacting.

Everyone has different standards and expectations depending on their own experiences in life and how many dramas they have watched. I have watched hundreds of dramas of all kinds, so I tend to be more picky. This one did not meet my standards or expectations, not because I did not understand the story but because I just didn’t like it. And I really liked the choice for the main actors, but not even that was able to make me enjoy it, so that is how I know my issue was with the story itself.

After watching love better than immortality and experiencing the awesome chemistry between the main leads, I was really anticipating this one. That was a mistake because I went in expecting romance and again their awesome chemistry but was disappointed to find out that the romance really takes a back seat on this one and because of that the actors did not have many chances to show off their chemistry. And the story was far from being my cup of tea. Because of it not meeting my expectations, I was not able to get into the plot and watched just for the sake of watching. :(

Yeah, I guess since Haru was not a memorable character to the writer then he should have been easy to draw....except he is so handsome so I doubt it is the later. XD

Yeah, he was kind of a grey character. Not a good person like the ML but not as evil as the King.

I agree he had some character development but that still does not make him a good person per say. He still went after the throne 9 years later and killed a bunch of people on the way to doing that. He did truly love the FL so I am not surprised he finally recognised he would never have her heart so he might as well let her be happy doing her own thing. Not hurting and treating a person you love kindly does not make you a good person, youre a good person when you treat that same way a stranger that might never be able to pay you back. So yeah, I agree he had some character development but he never became a good person, he just wasnt as evil as the King, that aside from his wife did not spare anyone, even his own son.

He did not become a good person. He never went after the ML because the FL made an offer he could not refuse, and he let the Queen go because it was the King’s last wish and he had nothing to win by killing her anyway, so why not just let her go? He was never a good person but he also did not kill people just for the sake of killing them, he killed people when it was "necessary" in his sick mind. Killing the Queen when she did not pose a threat to him would be out of his character. Yet he did kill probably hundreds of soldiers and other innocent people because of his own greed, so yeah, not a good person.

I liked it up until the revolt and palace related events took over the plot, but since that did not overpower the drama as a whole, I was able to deal with it. At first I thought this would be one of my favourite kdramas of the year but the change in the focus of the plot and watching other dramas that I liked more made me realise that would not happen.

But I have to say that this drama had one of the best endings I have seen in historical kdramas. It was a smart ending that did justice to each character. This kind of ending is something that I wish I had seen in a lot of other historical dramas but never happened. I cant say more than this without it being a spoiler so just watch it yourself and you will know what I am talking about.

Yeah, they really weren't thinking straight when they made it so much longer compared to the original, they had to fill that time with something, and the drama as a whole became extremely draggy and boring.

You have a very good point. But even in The Trumpet Flower, as a main character, his only setup was being the Prince’s right hand man. I feel bad for his character since not even there he had family, a childhood or anything. All I can do is imagine in the 3rd comic where they are in college he is again a main character and this time has a more detailed setup, at least a family member, and remembers having a childhood and did not just happen to exist one day as another college student. T T

I know where you're coming from, and yeah I forgot about his drawing hobby. The other ones were written for his character, and drawing seemed to be the only hobby he had by choice. What I meant when I said we didn't know enough about him, I was talking about behind the scenes. I know he is an extra, but so is Dan Oh and yet we know a lot more about her, including her background, childhood and family. What I was talking about is the fact that Haru was introduced in such an intriguing way and he found so much about his past in the shadow but never about where he came from, if he had family or anything like that.

I am not saying the writer should have given more info on him, I am just disappointed that did not happen since he was probably my favourite character. I understand that he was probably the least important character for the writer, but for us viewers he was a lot more than an extra, so not knowing more was a disappointment. Plus, he was an extra only in the comic Secret. In the comic The Trumpet Flower he was a main character together with Baek Kyun and Dan Oh, and yet even in that one there is nothing about his background other than that he is the Prince’s right hand man or something.

But overall you cant even consider my comment complaining, I just mentioned a few details I wished were different. No drama is perfect, and this is still one of my favourite dramas of the year.

Oh ok, but the way the question explained it was not clear. Cause the new manhwa could be the one we saw throughout the drama since that one was "new" compared to the "old one" - the trumpet flower?? (honestly I cannot remember if that was the name) XD

QUESTION #3 - The answer is wrong??. The manhwa was called 비밀 which is a Korean word that means "Secret", so in fact the right answer should be Secret, but it is not even one of the options.

I cant lie and say it was perfect when in fact the first half was much better than the second. The beginning was super strong. It had been a while since a drama managed to hook me from the start like this. Unfortunately, as most dramas, the plot started to lose focus a little and became repetitive. I also wished Haru was not so one dimensional. When he first appeared he was such an intriguing character but later nothing other than his past was shown. By the end of the drama I still did not know who Haru was as an individual. Family? Hobbies? Nothing. He was there for the sake of Dan Oh and that’s it. I felt a lot of potential was wasted right there. Dan Oh’s character development also seemed to stagnate if not regress after she fell in love with him. At first it was cute to see her go Haru! Annyeong! but after having her do that in almost every scene they were together, she looked more like a puppet than when she was on stage.

The ending was as I expected and what made most sense considering the plot. It was not a happy ending nor was it a sad one. In fact, it wasn't an ending at all, it was just another beginning.

At the end of the day, even if I felt the story did not reach its full potential and the second half of the drama fell short compared to the first, this was still a drama that made me anticipate each episode and patiently wait every week for more. 8.5/10

Damn, no reviews and no comments about the actual plot. I am still deciding if I should watch this or not. If you already finished watching and are reading this, please let me know what you think about this drama. This is 40 episodes long, is it worth it?

I hate dropping dramas because I don’t like leaving things halfway but I have stopped at ep 30 and haven’t gone back for months now. At first I found the story interesting as it reminded me of Prince of Wolf, which in my opinion was much better, and I also liked the casting a lot, but as the episodes went by I started to feel extremely bored. The only character I liked was Mo Ge Li but he started to become less likeable as the story progressed, and reading the comments of people who finished it, he gets worse. The 3rd or maybe 4th?? couple was surprisingly more interesting to watch, but they only appeared for a few minutes at most. (I am talking about the fml’s brother and the girl that made his dull life have some colour) I think the fact there were so many main character and couples also made this a lot more draggy and boring. I cannot stand dramas with too many main characters because it seems like a competition to see which couple gets more screen time and that distracts me from enjoying the relationship between the supposed main couple. Why 50 episodes? I usually can only stand long dramas if they are historical. Modern day dramas that are this long end up feeling draggy most of the time.

Slowly I realised that the only excuse I had for not dropping this was for the sake of completing it, and that did not feel like a good enough excuse when I still had 20 more episodes to go and the first 30 were already difficult enough to get through. So here I am months later saying bye to this drama with no regrets. Next.

Ughh, I was hopping Melting Me Softly would be the least interesting drama after his comeback but it seems like he is going to star in at least 2 more dramas that might potentially be even worse. T T

It was a lot more average than I expected. After reading the synopsis and this being JCW’s comeback I though it would be really exciting, yet I could tell after watching the first few episodes that this was not going to be my cup of tea.

The comedy was not really funny, the drama was either too much or too little in certain situations, the romance took me a while to warm up to, there were several "small" plot holes or things left unexplained and the ending felt as average as the drama itself. I would not go as far as to rate it under 5 like a lot of people did, but it definitely wont go to my favourite kdramas list.
