I thought about watching this but I haven't even reached episode 10 and so much already happened, how are they going to keep the story going for +70 episodes? And I thought the emperor would love only Ruyi even if he was married to many women but in the few first episodes I can already see that he is only showing favouritism but keeps showing interest in other women. No wonder the summary says her relationship with the Emperor would become eroded. I for sure do not want to waste so many hours of my life for the frustration I will feel when that happens. Better drop it now before I get immersed in the story.
I dropped it after 3 episodes. Yeah, I know, if I watched 3, why not put up with 4 more and get it over with? Well, that’s how unwilling I was to waste my time, even if only 1 more minute, watching this. The character’s actions, mainly the male leads actions bug me. The female lead’s attitude is also one I would never have no matter how much I loved him. Actually I would never fall in love with someone like him. Also, I don’t know why people seem to be so excited about the male lead playing this, I find him far from attractive. I guess he is a good actor, because he definitely is not good looking compared to all the other japanese male leads that I have seen.
I was pleasantly surprised as I have watched c-dramas with similar plots and dropped them as I found them boring. I did not feel that his one dragged the story and I didn’t really feel bored thanks to the short size of each episode. If you take out the intro and ending, each episode is like 15-20 mins long so you can watch all of it in the same day if you want. The ending was also a surprise, it caught me off guard and made me cry. Don’t worry, my crying at the end had nothing to do with how the lead couple ended, promise.
Still, as I am a very selective person, I will not give it more than 7/10. It was refreshing but it did not wow me.
I don’t believe in reincarnation, but I also don’t believe in time travelling and that doesn't stop me from watching dramas with that theme. As long as the story and acting is good enough, I can watch almost any kind of drama.
From the reviews, comments and overall rating, I expected this to be almost a masterpiece. Turns out it was just an ok drama. I can see why some people might have thought this was one of the best dramas they have watched, but as for me it was not THAT good. The story was well written but it just wasn't my kind of drama. I have watched dramas with similar plots that I thought were more entertaining.
Again, not saying it is bad, it just isn’t my cup of tea.
Well, it was a lakorn. Some things I liked but I mostly fast fowarded as I was bored. The thing with most lakorns is that they give too much screen time to things that are not really that interesting or are kinda annoying. I also have that problem with many chinese dramas. In the end of the day, kdramas are definitely my cup of tea.
Was an ok drama. Kinda refreshing. But I have to say the way it ended was a "little" out of nowhere. They introduced a plot device that had no place there. Also, I have suffered from second male lead syndrome many times, but here I cant even say its a syndrome, I felt like the male lead got the girl just because he is the male lead.
(Btw, this is no spoiler cause we all know the female lead chooses the male lead in 99.9% of the dramas we have watched.)
In my opinion they were not able to wrap up the drama nicely. The last few episodes were quite boring. Also, many things were not explored. Her background story was never explained properly. I also find it really weird that her daughter was like a non-existent character. Only pictures, letters and emails. Not even a video call or anything, and she did ask her mother to "meet" the man she is dating.
On the other hand, they spent way too much screen time on his background story, to the point it got boring and the last episode was far from satisfying.
This drama embraced some clichés but at the same time managed to avoid others. It is a light drama, without a deep plot that is super interesting and can be boring if you’re not in the right mood. Watch this when you are not sure what to watch and don’t want too much drama and angst and crave a love story without too many obstacles or obstacles that take the entire drama to be overpassed.
The ending was nothing special since the main lead’s story was resolved several episodes before, but it managed to wrap up the supporting character’s story nicely.
Overall, it is an ok drama, not terrible like some reviews make it look, but nothing memorable either.
Nothing I havent seen before. Full of clichés and a plot based on a misunderstanding that lasted for almost the entire drama. If you are new to the kdrama world you might enjoy it but if like me you have watched hundreds of kdramas, then it will be just another one, nothing memorable.
I felt they kept changing the plot depending on Push’s schedule, no wonder after he came back the relationship with Ye Chen "had" to end. Oh well, its entertaining enough for a one time watch. When it comes to the plot it is just one more chinese drama, dragging everything and everyone around. I am pretty sure the rating would be lower if it wasnt for the actors chosen to play the main characters.
Wow, that was intense. I honestly thought I would not like this and drop it midway but guess what? I binge watched all the episodes. You would think mixing up thriller, melodrama and romance would turn out to be a disaster, but it ended up making a super interesting plot. The plot itself would have been nothing special and turn out to be boring if someone else was writing and directing it, but whoever did this knew how to keep us guessing what would happen next and if our suspicions would turn out to be correct or not. I honestly could not wait to watch the next episode right after I was done with the previous one.
I am not sure if I will re-watch this as I usually don’t do that (Empress Ki would be an exception), but it was definitely a ride that was fun the first time. I see dramas with super messy and boring plots with better ratings than this. Sadly, I guess it’s one more that goes to the list of underrated dramas.
Honestly, I was expecting more. With such a high rating here on mdl and so many reviews and comments saying how good it is, I was expecting it to make me excited for what’s next at the end of each episode. It did not happen. It was not bad, I watched it until the end, but I think this is what you call overrated. And the ending, better not even say anything. I liked most characters and the actors chosen to play them, I think my problem was with the way the plot was directed. The more dramas I watch, the harder it is to find one that meets my now super high expectations. RIP
The ending was, well, Im not sure. Thought something was missing, I guess. Overall, it was good. Since it has been some time since I watched it, I am not sure if I liked this one or Rookie Agent Rouge better.
I had finally started it after being in dilemma for so long (One of my baes is gonna die). But put it on hold…
Believe me, like someone said in a review, she is only like that the first 20 episodes or so. I am not saying after that she turns out to be the smartest of them all, but she does learn with her mistakes and starts thinking twice before taking any actions. But yeah, Im sure when you say one of your baes is gonna die, youre talking about "him". He dies in episode 49, and it did hurt, I was too attached to his character. I think I migh have even started to like him more than Chen Shen.
If the only reason you put it on hold was because of the female lead character, then dont. Trust me, she gets better. But yeah, if you decide to pick it up again, be warned, episode 49 will be a torture.
Like many people already commented, the ending was rushed. I liked it but I have seen so many law dramas by now that it cant enter my top. My expectations are always too high.
Still, as I am a very selective person, I will not give it more than 7/10. It was refreshing but it did not wow me.
