I was surprised by how entertaining this was. Not boring nor did it give too much screen time to the supporting characters like a lot of chinese dramas of this genre do. But it had its flaws. Near the end the plot went in a direction that I have seen many times and that is annoying, like a completely different person was writing the script for those episodes, then it went back to normal, then the last episode seemed to be ending in a very predictable and seen many times way, then it really didn’t. I guess they were just messing around with us.
Anyway, it was a pretty good drama, not perfect but better than most school related chinese dramas. 7.5/10 (that is a pretty good rating in my standards, anything above 7 is rewatchable)
His parents are and will probably continue to be cold and strict, but in episode 5 seeing the way they behaved with the baby, specially the father, it killed me. It was completely unexpected.
Also, In Sang is obviously a kid and is afraid of angering his parents, but seeing him standing up to his parents because of his love for Seo Bom and the baby, it is really refreshing.
The plot, the visual effects, the ending - all ridiculous. The only things I liked were the male lead and female lead interactions and some of the music played. But obviously, that is not enough to make a drama good. To be honest, unless you leave your brain somewhere other than in your head, it will be hard to think this is good. It is a shame tho, I would have liked to see the main couple in a different story and definitely with a different ending.
No wonder I kept getting Cruel City vibes from this, the screenwriter is the same. The way I felt about this was also the same I felt about Cruel City. I liked it in the beginning but then got tired of it, felt like the story kept going around and around. The amount of fight scenes is also too much, I feel like most of the time I spent watching this was to see people beating each other. Action dramas like this are not my thing, I prefer less fighting and more brains. A lot of fights can be avoided by planing things, by being smarter than the villains. Going into fights without much thought seems quite dumb to me. I will take a smart main lead over one that is good at fighting anytime.
Maybe I am the exception but I tried watching the first 3 episodes without skipping scenes and I was soooo bored. This kind of story should cause me to feel something but I was never able to connect with the characters, specially the main lead. I actually did not like him so I had a hard time feeling pity for him when he found out he had Alzheimer’s. I felt more pity for both his ex-wife and his current wife than for him. Being able to understand and connect to the main character is very important for me to be able to enjoy a drama, since that did not happen, no matter how good the story is or how well written it was, I was not able to enjoy it.
I am actually surprised that I felt nothing but boredom while watching this. I usually cry everytime there is something sad happening in the drama I am watching. I really cannot explain it in another way. I just did not like the main character as a whole.
4 years ago when this was released it might have been considered pretty good but now it is just another drama full of clichés and with nothing memorable about it. It is ok for a one time watch but it is nothing special.
I knew from the beggining that this was not a binge watching drama. If I watched it by myself on my computer I would end up skipping a lot of things and not fully enjoy it. Seeing how the rating is pretty good and most comments are positive, I wanted to give this a chance. That said, I watched this with my mother and my sister on tv and watched 2-3 episodes a day. From episode 11 to 18 I could not wait for the next day and watched it by myself the same night, tonight. I ended up skipping a "little" but because I wanted to know how it ended.
The truth is that the main lead is an excellent actor, but we already knew that, right? And the story is pretty interesting. It is just that I thought 18 episodes were too much for what was really 1 case to be resolved. There were other subplots but still, there was no need for 18 hours of mostly the male lead being a punching bag. It was good but it could have been better if it was a little shorter. 8/10
It is based on a true story so it had to be this beautiful. He loves her so much and does so many things for her that if this was not based on a true story a person would thing this was cheesy writing, except it is all true and in Japan an actual man did all this for the woman he loves. Pretty amazing. Tell me where you can find a man this loyal and I will order one right now.
This was over the top, ridiculously cheesy and cringe worthy BUT it was enjoyable. Karin’s innocence is cute and reminds me of the good old days when I thought the world was pink and everyone only had good intentions. It was a nice watch.
Typical school life movie. I have read the manga before and I liked it. The movie is good too but it is nothing memorable. Good but does not stand out among all the other movies of this genre out there.
i rewatched it in two days, and seriously i really thought i was not going to cry (again) but you know, now that…
Yeah. It is hard not to cry when the last episodes provoke all kinds of emotions. This definitely needs a second season for us to feel a little better but I doubt there will be one. TT
I actually felt the whole thing was weird. This kind of story needed more time to work. Her actions did not really make her look like a robot, the behaviour of the people around her, mainly her oppa, seemed to make no sense and were not believable and there were so many other things. It looked like the script was written by a teenager. I believe this could have been good if it was longer and with some more thought put into it, but as a drama special with the total length of 1h30min it did not work, at least not for me.
Conspiracy is the main theme of this drama followed by the lustful and gullible emperor. The harem is one big…
Yeah, I forgot. I remember reading about it and also about the scandal because the actresses showed too much cleavage. XD Well, she actually fitted the role she played, so she did good by choosing herself as the female lead. She also saved money since she didn’t have to hire someone for that role.
Well, I would say it is just fantasy background setting is similar, e.g the different realms, mortals and immortals,…
It has been a while since I watched Eternal Love, but I remember there were a lot of similar things in the plot. I usually don’t watch the Chinese fantasy genre a lot, so maybe its a common thing. For me these 2 are very similar. The story is not the same but there are a lot of things in the plot and in the the main characters actions that reminded me of Eternal Love. I assume if a person liked one, there is a high chance of them liking the other too.
Yup, dropped it. The first episode was so boring that I decided to skip through many scenes. Watched the last episode just to see how it ended and the ending is similar to another drama that has the word Black in it. I hated the ending on that drama, and this one is no better. At least the other one had a story interesting enough to make me watch all of it even if I had many things to complain about after. But this one, just like many people have said, is BORING, like it has been some time since I have seen such a badly written script, this was even worse than Bride of the Water God. Idk if Shin Se Kyung picks bad scripts or if she is in part at fault for the downfall of the story. So far the only drama where she was the main lead that I was able to sit through the entire thing was The Girl Who Sees Scents, and I remember kinda liking that one. I guess her lack of facial expressions matched the character she was playing in it.
Anyway, if your gut is telling you this is a waste of time, then just follow your gut, you are probably right.
I still haven’t found the courage to give this a try as I am expecting it to be really bad so I am not even sure if I will be able to get through the first episode. Meanwhile, I am wondering how the rating is still over 7 when I see so many reviews rating under 5, with several of them being ratings of 1 and 2. It’s a mystery! XD
Nice watch if you don’t have a lot of time in your hands. And the way it ends makes it hard to be mad no matter who you wanted her to end with. You will understand once you watch the final episode. Cannot say anymore or it will be a huge spoiler. ^^

Yeah, I also watched the Empress of China. I really liked the costumes there and I think the actress they picked was perfect for that role. The tragic ending was expected. Unfortunately, most chinese dramas, specially historical ones, end in tragedy.

I guess that means you enjoy it then. I think having watched so many historical dramas I got tired of all the drama you see in the typical emperor’s harem. I probably need a break from these kind of dramas so I can go back to them later and maybe find them entertaining. But probably not this one. I think I would still have a problem with the emperor’s attitude and overall behaviour. If he was a supporting character that only appears once in a while I would be able to put up with it, but not when he is the male lead.
