The start, although nothing special, was decent. But after watching 2 or 3 episodes I started losing interest and kept skipping scenes. The ending was bland and left me with a feeling that watching this was a waste of time.
Their YouTube channel used to have the same shitty subs, but I have not been watching anything from them for years because I had come across way to many badly subbed dramas to know to not even try. Maybe they got better but I find it weird that they would put out decent subs on YouTube and not on their app.
Although the ending was a bit messy, which is kind of expected from this kind of drama, the ride there was entertaining. I did not expect to be this invested when I started it nor did I expect to be tearing up for several episodes in a row at some point. ^^'
The romance is very subtle, so I believe it should have a "slight romance" tag instead of the romance genre. I have no idea how I did not come across this one earlier.
I think part of the problem was the show was supposed to be 40 episodes so this should have been the halfway point…
No wonder the pacing of ep 21 felt so weird. Like the reveal was so anticlimatic. She knew nothing other than that the ML gave her the cure and seemed to honestly love her.
And then in the first half of episode 21 she now knows that her "brother" is alive and faked his death, her father poisoned her to make the ML give away the cure and is giving orders to get him killed. And why was the ML's brother the one to reveal it? It was a weird choice in my opinion.
Yeah. True that. However she's late coz man's dying
The way things are going, it seems like it is more probable that he dies at the end and his brother becomes the Emperor. I doubt he will risk her getting pregnant before bringing down her father.
Of course that is not the ending we are all hoping for but so far it seems like that is the direction it is going. I hope I am wrong because with all the misunderstandings, this was already a frustrating ride. No need to make it worse by giving us a tragic ending where his brother becomes Emperor and FL goes roam around the world by herself while dealing with the pain of losing all the people she loved.
I see a lot of people complaining about the script, and although I agree with most things being said, we have to remember that the FL is biased.
On one side there is her father who spoiled her since a kid and a man who is like a real brother, on the other side is a man she just met, fell in love with and then found out almost nothing about him was true.
From her perspective this man kills her master (who was like a second father to her), forces her into marriage and living a life without freedom in a role she never wanted, tortures and chops off a finger of her dear brother and uses his life to threaten her, treats her warmly one moment and coldly the other, ... I would have a hard time trusting such a man too, even if I love him.
She is just now starting to find out the truth and it will take some time for her to start taking action. Were you all expecting her to be like: oh, my father who has always showered me with love is the bad guy? And the man I hated/loved until a minute ago is actually the good guy? Let me help him bring my father (and possibly the entire Ling clan, including my younger brother who is a good man) down for the good of the people.
I mean, this is what will probably happen, but not right away. She is caught between 2 people that she loves, taking a side is not something that she can do right after finding the truth.
I think the biggest problem was dragging the misunderstandings for so long and then clearing some of them in a few seconds on ep 21 in such an underwhelming way. It would have been better if this was done sooner so we could have time to see her character develop and her deciding to help the Emperor bring her father down.
The way this is going I am afraid we will get a rushed tragic ending. Which is why I agree with the people complaining about the script while also agreeing with the people defending the FL.
I'm not sure that is a good thing. I have not started watching it yet but I don´t like when they westernise Asian…
You got a point. I don´t think I ever came across a Chinese drama that has a western vibe. At most, part of it will be filmed abroad but still keep its' Chinese identity. And I have actually come across a few that are pure Chinese propaganda so yeah, they should not follow K-drama trend to americanize their plot anytime soon.

Out of those 3 I only watched Rattan. I liked it but it was not my cup of tea. It will probably be the same for this one. But I guess we don´t have to love all dramas we watch. I will give it a try once I finish a few I am currently watching.
it's so good, it doesn't look like CDramas, it's like western dark dramas ❤️🔥
I'm not sure that is a good thing. I have not started watching it yet but I don´t like when they westernise Asian dramas, have been doing that a lot to kdrama the last few years and I did not like any of them.
If I wanted to watch western shows, I would be watching them. When I watch Asian dramas I am expecting them to be their own thing and not try to be western.
I will still give it a try for the cast but both the summary and the comments make me think that unfortunately this might end up not being my kind of drama. Hopefully, I'm wrong.
I agree with most people that say that the second half or so was better but I still feel like there was too much going on and the amnesia thing lasted longer than I expected. What happened after was also what I thought would happen and it was frustrating that they decided to go that route.
I have mixed feelings. The acting was great and I liked some things about it but there were also some subplots that felt out of place, too many dead moments, too much romance?? (I never thought I would say this) and not enough action. I cannot really explain but if I would sum it up - this is a drama that I'm glad I watched BUT that I would not watch again, if that makes sense.
Unfortunately, yes. It was a pretty good one too, compared to eps 13 and 14 that wasted too much screen time on…
Not much of a jdrama watcher here.
Started the whole asian fever as a kid with anime, then manga and then in 2010 with asian dramas but for some reason even tho I love anime, I found jdrama to be a bit cringy. Maybe because the acting is a bit over the top like in anime but with real people it feels weird.
But I watch some once in a while. The most recent one that I found good (at least most of it) was Alice in Borderland but I am sure you already heard about that one and might not be your type of drama.

Yeah, I usually do not watch Philippine dramas but have had one on my plan-to-watch list for the longest time because it is taking forever for all the episodes to come out. I did not even start it because what if I like it and then have to wait so long to watch the next episode, I would rather wait for all the episodes to come out.
